It goes without saying that the boy's more inclined towards the Lady Wang Yuanji more than the other. Between father and son, there’s an obvious amount of enmity held by the latter, for reasons still unclear and confusing to most. 

Undoubtedly he doesn’t want anyone to know whatever the cause was and is; unless on professional grounds, he’s not at all fond of speaking about the man and will attempt to stray from the conversation as much as possible. 

But perhaps the true tragedy of this broken bond is that they weren’t always as distant as they are today. Born the first child-and even moreso, the first son-the Sima clan had been absolutely ecstatic at his birth and he was cherished by all as the auspicious young heir of the family. Bubbly-faced and optimistic as a small toddler to his preteens, he was a much more different person in those days. 

And to the disappointment of his relatives, that person was-and will-remain in the past.
