the home fragrances / candles / air freshener? situation at the dogsitting house is fascinating. Smells like if you poured some ocean wave smelling candle wax on top of a cinnamon pancake. I'm hungry but also not.

Also can we talk about how "ocean" or "tide" or "water" scented aroma items literally do not smell like water. The ocean doesn't smell like that. Who named this. I don't agree.

Would sitting on an engine's running board be the equivalent of sitting on someone's lap?

I've thought about engine -> human anatomy equivalents before, and honestly? I think the equivalents get pretty blurry for a lot of things, both socially and mechanically / physically. At the end of the day, engines are just. Different from humans! It's fun to think about!

Engines spend their whole lives in regular physical contact with humans. People standing in their cabs, people shoveling coal into fires or pumping water / fuel into tanks. People washing them and repairing them. I think engines probably have very different ideas of boundaries and personal space!

I mean, for people, let's say its the first week of your new job. And during lunch, your coworker offers up their lap for you to sit on and eat lunch. That is.... very overly-familiar, considering your current relationship as new coworkers.

But lets say your new engine coworker offers for you to sit on their running board for lunch. Well, that doesn't seem as weird! Certainly there is a level of friendliness or familiarity to this action. But like 80% of your job is comprised of riding around inside their body. It's not as crazy a breach in personal space or boundaries like it would be if you were both humans. So then... IS a running board like a lap? Hmm...

tldr, I think it's tricky to draw direct equivalents since engines are physically and socially different from humans.

I bet engines and people alike will get into arguments about what equals what lol. The infamous "is a firebox a stomach or a heart or lungs" argument always ends up in a shouting match at Tidmouth Sheds, I'm sure.

your email found me at the grocery store irl. that's crazy that you gave it little legs and everything. it walked right up to me. everyone was so scared one person screamed when i picked it up. i said it's okay you just do this kind of thing sometimes. while i was reading, its little legs were just sort of dangling in the air. someone asked me if it's alive and if holding it like that made it uncomfortable. i told them idk i just get the emails i don't send them.

I really can and will blame the 9-5 for everything. "We're in a loneliness epidemic" well, we have to spend a third of our day interacting with people in a professional way that makes forming real friendships difficult and then we're peopled out by the time we're done. "People are eating more and more unhealthily" people have to spend more than a third of their day doing work related tasks and they don't want to spend their tiny amount of free time making food. "People aren't involved in their local communities" after spending more than a third of their day doing work related things people are tired and also all those community events take place during normal working hours. "People need to get more hobbies" after spending more than a third of their day working, people are TIRED and don't want to do anything that takes yet more energy. "Literacy is dying" to maintain your critical thinking skills you need to read/watch things that make you think and after spending more than a third of your day doing work related stuff you are TIRED and don't want to expend even more brainnpower. "People need to get outside more" People. Are. TIRED. Because they have to spend all of their time working or preparing for work or recovering from work or doing all the chores they couldn't stay on top of because of work. I can blame fucking anything on having to work, it is truly the root of all fucking evil.
