Okay. Am I the asshole if I call out my roommate's self-centered behavior? I live in a communal space, where everybody except C shares freely. C got a good job through connections and is able to spend freely on themselves, spending little on household items, groceries, etc. They say they're broke every month, but I've seen their takeout containers and amazon boxes, so maybe it's a spending problem. Worst of all, when we are low on food, C just disappears for a few hours and comes back instead of cooking with everyone.
I've told C that they're being selfish and they should start considering other people, but it goes in one ear and out the other. I offered to help budget but they don't listen! They barely spend more than $400 of their $2000 a month on groceries for the house; the rest goes to their lavish lifestyle while the rest of us suffer. I just want them to pay their fair share. AITA for asking them to be fair??
Including some more specific INFO from version 1 of this post (which wasn't postable due to being about emotions rather than actions):
ngl in 90% of situations I'd be like okay yeah this is a justification--but making an assumption like that without a moment's doubt or thinking to ask their roommate "hey what's with the cup" actually does fit 100% with my understanding of them
louis smiling and confirming to regina that hes gay is so funny to me.... no no i didnt want SEX oh god, you mustve thought i was so creepy haha. Noooo omg i want you to act like my dead vampire daughter who was also a stand in for my humam sister who died believing me to be a monster. which i am.
people are always like "Oh a vampire wouldn't get horny while drinking someone's blood, that's like getting horny while eating a sandwich" and like man have you never had a really good fucking sandwich?
tumblr is not social media. idk how to explain but its so calm here. like this is the field and the valleys. over there is the town and people. but here we are little sheep in our pastures eating our grass and laying in the sun <3
Hey guess what i saw this a few days ago when i was in an absolutely scary slump and then i spoke to my counsellors and did what they told me to do and now i feel so much better. So this is true. Reblogging for more good luck
another bakery employee here to tell you, if you're sad or scared at 3am just remember that's when the croissants are done proofing and are getting egg washed to be baked just for you. the baguettes are being shaped after proofing for hours and heading into a burning hot oven to be ready for you to order for breakfast
Lord knows that the United States has and continues to commit atrocities. I can't justify that. And the current political situation here is scary as hell.
But I love this place. I love the Atlantic Ocean and New York City and the Pacific Northwest. I love my Blue Ridge Mountains with my whole entire heart. I love cardinals and mockingbirds and kudzu and possums and black rat snakes and the way the woods smell in the mornings.Â
I love that Americans are known for complimenting strangers. I love that we fry everything, and that we do it well. I love 12-foot-high plastic Halloween skeletons in peopleâs yards and tacky Christmas lights that stay up too long. I love that we are an unabashedly goofy people.
I love bluegrass music. I love stepping. I love that there are always folklorico dancers in my townâs Mardi Gras parade. I love that my town has a Mardi Gras parade, even though most people here arenât Catholic or French and didnât grow up with any kind of Carnivale tradition. I love that if "Livin On A Prayer" comes on a pizzeria, at least one person at each table won't be able to stop themselves from singing along. I love that the middle school gym shakes to the rafters when families cheer for THEIR baby finishing eighth grade and that they bring balloons and bouquets and flower garlands to celebrate.
I love the 80 year old couple at our local No Kings protest. I love all the little kids there with their families, too. I love the brass band that always shows up at protests here and plays old union songs and gospel music. I cry like a damn baby every time I hear âLift Evâry Voice and Sing.â
This country is horrible and selfish and destructive, but itâs also wonderful and kind and full of people loving and fighting and trying to make things better. And the people saying that thereâs only one kind of real American, and that if you donât look like they do or talk like they do or think like they do, then you donât count, those people can go pound sand. Iâm as real American as they come, and those people arenât the only ones who get to love our country.
Canât wait for, like, 2025 when we look back on the 2018/2019 era and say âhey, remember when we were all really freaking depressed? That was a crazy time! Glad we arenât like that anymoreâ
Tl;dr how you can personally make Neil Gaiman lose money (and not be a jerk to others.)
I see a lot of folks upset that NG will financially benefit from residuals and other compensation surrounding his involvement in the adaptation of Sandman and Good Omens (and he will.) But the answer isnât ârage at the fans who are so emotionally attached to their blorbos because they grieve differently, and then somehow NG will be financially punished.â Thatâs lower-class/middle-class thinking. NG is too rich and financially diversified to really be hurt by little boycott or a couple of show cancellations (though said cancellations can cause life-changing poverty to the little guys who signed contracts and turned down other opportunities before all of this came out. Boy does NG love women in poverty đ€ź)
So if you want to substantially reduce the wealth of someone at NGâs financial levelâyou need to do it with professional services fees.
Details below the cut:
The firm that NG has apparently engaged for online reputation management (ORM), called edendale, was once paid for their professional testimony in an unrelated slander lawsuit, which was delivered in the form of a report (2) outlining the strategy ORM firms use and (2) just how ludicrously expensive those professional services cost. (Credit to horrornobody77 for digging up the report.) Weâre talking hundred of thousands of dollars for a small potatoes case, where NGâs could easily get into the millions for ORM and associated legal fees.
Reddit - Dive into anything
Itâs not that long of a read, but to summarize the key action items you can take:
đ -ORMs wait for the discourse to die down, because active discourse is much more expensive to counter. Wanna cost NG money? Talk about the accusations over time. Set a quarterly calendar event in your phone to remind yourself to post (and otherwise engage on other peopleâs posts) about the Vulture article. This needs to happens for years, so that NG has to pay for more comprehensive ORM and for longer.
â -Make discourse that is Google-friendly. Use the words edendale will find concerning (theyâre already running fluff pieces with the terms Neil Gaiman Uncovered to try and bury the similarly named subreddit.) If you just post a link without much comment, itâs not gonna be prioritized by search engines. Similarly, if you make a low effort post and then no one else engages with itâitâs not going to make it to the top ten search results. Engage with each other, for heavenâs sake!
đŠŸ-Donât let the fluff sit unaddressed. If you see random bot posts sharing NG quotes captioning random fantasy art (possibly AI or misattributed /stolen) with the comments turned on? Respond! Make it hard for the bots to understand your comment but easy for humans. âNice quote! Mega bummer about what NG did, I used to really like him,â is hard for a bot to auto-delete. âFuck NG,â is practically doing the botâs autodelete command for it.
âïž -If/when you post fan works for properties strongly related to Neil Gaiman, leave a lil callout in the authorâs notes. Nothing that will get you sued, just a few words like: âI would definitely personally choose to not ever meet Neil Gaiman at a comic con.â Maybe throw in a link to your fav tumblr summary.
Anyway, to the person being paid hundreds or thousands of dollars per hour by Neil Gaiman for professional servicesâyouâre welcome for the extra billable hours đ
Also Edendale sounds like a law firm in a Good Omens legal AU fic, and I canât believe itâs real.
I've reblogged this like 20 times but knowing he's suing one of his victims has made me come back to do it some more because fuck him. How very fucking dare he.
Let's hit him in his fucking pocket.
