Kamurocho’s nights were never quiet. Living around such a city transformed anyone. It was survive or be swallowed by its overwhelming force. Good and bad turned grey and there was no way to see it, unless you read between the lines. 

Stuck doing paperwork at the office, investigating around, working overtime, it was common. Much more so if you worked with the law. So, imagine the irritation he felt whenever he heard that one of his subordinates was drinking and, possibly, sharing some hard-earned information to others… 

That’s why he had arrived to that bar again. This time, they had been wrong. Ayabe was nowhere to be seen… but there was another person he knew, who actually irritated him all the same. Yagami. Well, whatever, maybe that was for the best.

“Quiet night, eh, Yagami?” he murmured a lie, sitting down close to him. Though ordering nothing, he stared at the front, where the liquors were assorted perfectly.

It was one of those nights that called for lounging around Tender for the entire evening, throwing back drinks until Masuda cut him off. Being stuck in his stuffy office was apparently not very becoming of him, Mafuyu insisted constantly. It wasn’t until Kaito himself started nagging him as well, constantly visiting the office and sprawling himself on the couch and poking at him until he eventually got up to escape him. Kaito knew him better than anyone, but anyone who looked at Yagami could tell that something was going on in his head.

He had retreated to Tender to try and shut his brain off, forget about everything that was currently happening. Yagami was out of it, he didn’t even bother turning his head to look at the door which had opened, letting some of Kamurocho’s neon pollution enter the bar. When the smell of a certain someone's cologne hit his nose though, he turned his head.

"Was quiet until now,"

Yagami muttered. He looked down at his empty glass in front of him. Out of all the people he could run into, it just had to be him, huh?
