I’ve got pop tabs, soda tabs, can tabs, whatever. My classification system is as follows:

Color: Shape: Error

Shapes are generally classified by brand rather than actual shape.

There are two variations under Standard, a more “smiley” cut and a regular oval cut. Both are standard and will only be identified on a case by case basis.

Three types of “Mis”s, miscut, misprint, and mismake.

The “dented” tabs likely indicate aspartame free or natural flavoring drinks. (I dunno though and they are varied)

Black tabs are either Sugar Free tabs or used for brand stylistic choices.

Blue can also be Sugar Free but only in Redbull.

the pop tab chain i hold is currently 16 feet long.

yo uhh it's me again. I found out that that the soda tab with the miscut (probably) isn't even a miscut! I found the drink it belongs to.

I’ve already asked a couple people (irl and on here) but how do you organize your tabs? mine are currently in sorting limbo.

(bonus: do you know approximately how many tabs you have I’m really curious)

I do have two cans, one for Standard Silver: Standard tabs specifically, and my other colors! Eventually though, they’ll be put on a beautiful shelf full of little glass bottles that sort by color or shape and it’ll look so nice.

Any advice as to where I can find LOTS of soda tabs without slowly gaining a collection by multiple canned soda purchases?

The best places where you can find them without buying them are parking lots, near trash cans, bus stops and near park benches.

If i had to rank them by where to find them best I'd put parking lots on #1 because they're mostly near supermarkets and trash cans.

Bus stops on #2 because you can also find empty cans standing around there with the tab still attached and most times there are also trash cans near bus stops

Trash cans you can find at random on #3 because if it's not near a bus stop, parking lot or somewhere else where a lot of people are it's less likely you're gonna find a lot there

Park benches on #4 because i just found out about it recently and it's just less likely because depending on weather they're not getting used that much.

If you don't wanna pick the up off the floor (because it can be really dirty and muddy, speaking from experiences) you can also just ask friends, family and other people to help you collect them.

Prev is so very right. The people love to leave their cans everywhere. I personally ask my friends and family to think of me and oh wow most of my tabs have come from them.

Another place to get them is by hitting up your local college’s or small town’s recycling center. If they’re awesome, cool, and kind (most are), you can ask them to set aside a buncha cans for you to come in and pull the tabs off of. Careful though, I did this with a college campus, and the stench of Yerba mate combined with shitty IPAs did make me sick on my third go-around and altogether, that was the worst day of my life (lost my wallet and also it was my town’s largest rain all year). I’d recommend bringing a mask and gloves.

adding to this with some little things that might be helpful?

if you go to any kind of school, or even any workplace building that has vending machines or a cafeteria, you can check the trash cans there, especially near said cafeterias and vending machines, or near study or hangout areas.

try to only grab tabs from the top of the trash can or from trash cans that are only filled with paper or such, if you have to dig through someone’s leftovers, it might not be worth it. especially because you can sometimes cut yourself on the tabs and you do NOT want any kind of infection. keep some sort of hand sanitizer with you as well.

literally ask your friends like prevs both said. if you get enough of a reputation as the person who collects tabs, people will start bringing you tabs. this works especially well if you have friends who drink a daily monster energy or whatnot.

public gatherings with soda or beer are GREAT scavenging grounds. parties or hangouts especially at public events will oftentimes have clean trash cans, and the majority of the things that get thrown in there by the end of the night are going to be cans. you don’t even have to go to them- if you show up at the end of the event you can rummage through the garbage. although you will get odd looks.

keep a container for tabs with you at almost all times if you’re going to be picking them up randomly. if this is a purse or a designated pants pocket, great. you just don’t want to end up either having to carry around your tabs all day or end up leaving them in a random pocket and finding them the next time you empty the dryer.

bonus: wash your tabs if you’re using them for crafts, or even if they’re just particularly dirty. warm water and dish soap for 20 minutes, then take them out and leave them to dry.

keep in mind this is coming from someone who is currently a student and therefore on a campus majority of the time, so these won’t be as helpful if you aren’t in a school/work environment very often.

I gave away two pop tabs because someone on my travels dare take theirs off and put it in their pocket and they were so COOL so they get two more because cool people get pop tabs while I make a fool out of myself

I made some solarpunk soda tab jewelry!! Again. And I'm making more. (Image ID at the bottom of he post)

A choker, a pair of earrings, a belt/waist chain and some bracelets using 100% thrifted/recycled materials! The choker and the bracelets have two layers so that the sharp aluminum edges on the back of the tabs aren't making contact with skin, you can kinda see it in the pictures. Here are more pictures:

[Image ID: 8 images. The first one shows a choker made out of soda tabs, with black cord weaved through it forming x shapes. There's a silver spike charm hanging from every other tab about an inch apart from each other. Im in the picture wearing the choker, my face is not in frame but my pale as fuck neck is visible and so is my dark brown hair.

The second image shows a pair of clip-on earrings laying on a sage green background. Each earring is made of 6 soda tabs weaved into a flower shape with green yarn, and three dangles hanging from the bottom. The dangles are made of a wire link with a black bead on in and a silver spike charm hanging from that. The same spike charms I used for the choker.

The third image shows a 2 ft 7 inch long belt chain made of the soda tab flowers from the earring image. Each flower is made of six tabs weaved together with the same green yarn but they yarn fades to yellow towards the end of the chain. 16 soda tab flowers are linked together with large jump rings and there are large silver clasps on each end to attach to a belt.

The forth image is my hand wearing a black compression brace and two soda tab bracelets. They are weaved together the same way as the choker, with the cord forming x shapes, but the cord is orange and not black. The bracelets are the same size, 8 inches long when laying flat including the clasp. There are two layers of soda tabs which makes the bracelet a little thicker.

The next 2 images shows a dress form wearing the belt chain from two different angles. It had a black skirt with a soda tab belt, with various spikey chains hanging from it. There's a black strip of grommet tape hanging on the right side of the belt and my soda tab flower belt chain hanging on the left side.

The next image shows one of the bracelets at and angle so the double layers are visible, and the last image shows the bracelets, the choker, and an unfinished soda tab choker with green ribbon weaved through it all laying flat on a sage green background. End ID]

was trying to find more colored (specifically purple right now) tabs and in my search I turned to Reddit. bad idea.

I usually look to bubly for good colored tabs, as I’m a sparkling water drinker. so I decided to look up bubly, as there’s a specific purple tan I know they make that I was trying to figure out what flavor has those tabs.

r/bubly is a subreddit that consists of people making jokes about shoving bubly up their ass.

I’m not sure I’ll get the response I wanted.

Well that there is one of my personal favorite Bublys, the Passionfruit bubly! Now, interesting fact I found out when quickly verifying, it seems that in Utah, of all places, Macey’s sells a version of specifically this flavor with an more orange tab and a different shape! I can’t verify, I live quite a hot second away, but it might just be the packaging on the website, and not the actual packaging, which begs the question- WHERE IS THIS FROM?!
