Strange Loop
Prime numbers are divisible only by 1 and by themselves. They hold their place in the infinite series of natural numbers, squashed, like all numbers, between two others, but one step further than the rest. They are suspicious, solitary numbers, which is why Mattia thought they were wonderful. Sometimes he thought that they had ended up in that sequence by mistake, that they’d been trapped, like pearls strung on a necklace. Other times he suspected that they too would have preferred to be like all the others, just ordinary numbers, but for some reason they couldn’t do it. This second thought struck him mostly at night, in the chaotic interweaving of images that comes before sleep, when the mind is too weak to tell itself lies.

artist feature 001
I’ve decided to start an artist feature series because it will help me to have a catalogue of inspiration that I can look back to in the future whenever I’m stuck in an artist block. It’s also because I have way too many tabs open and it’s definitely not good for the health of my laptop. Only in this window I have 18 tabs (and I still have 3 other windows). Yup. I’m a tab hoarder. It’s mostly because I don’t want to forget the names of artists, articles and ideas - but it’s probably better to keep it a little more organized ;)Â
ED BOXALL
Ed Boxall is an artist, writer and creative educator living in Hastings, England. I first came across him as I was looking for printmaking inspiration for my independent project this semester. I wanted to find an artist who used printmaking to illustrate children’s storybooks. Boxall has experience in small scale book publishing, poetry, storytelling and education. He creates handmade prints using woodblocks, lino and mono printing.
I like his linocut prints best because they are playful, but also thoughtful. Click here if you’d like to see more of his work.Â

I’m at ACF and there are a lot of people that night. I’m with T, J and H. Apparently, H and A are telling a story or performing something. The plan is that I’m supposed to help J bake a cake for H after the night is over. Right before H is supposed to give his presentation, him and I decide to take a walk outside.Â
The exit from the building is confusing, there are a lot of little stairs and doors that lead to different paths. When we finally get outside, there is a large stretch of pavement in front of us with wooden vertical beams on the side - almost like a gazebo but I don’t remember seeing a roof. As we walk down the path, the sun is shining and it’s warm.Â
It starts raining and at first I’m worried about what this means, but then as the drops fall on me and I continue walking, it’s the most wonderful feeling I have ever felt. It feels refreshing and in the moment. It’s exactly what was supposed to happen and we just keeping as the sun radiates down and as the water embraces us. Closer to the end of the pavement I start running a bit. By the time I get to the part where there is a roof, the rain has stopped.
We continue walking and on the left side, there are big wooden crates with low walls and many dogs, at least 6, inside the first one. They are all the same breed and seem to be sleeping. H goes over there and scares them, they all jump up, fall down, and roll over to their side with a thud - all at the same time. We keep walking.
H and I are talking, but I realize that he will be very late for his presentation by the time he goes back. We are trying to find our way back through the confusing white doors, stairs and levels. I think he has to find a different entrance since he is presenting and I find my way back eventually. I check my phone and realize that T and J have texted me asking me where we were.Â
Somehow I know they have talked to each other and weren’t happy with me. By the time I get back, he is already presenting.
After a little while, I exit again to go back to the pavement path, this time with V. As we walk I describe to her what happened last time with the rain and try to explain how magical it was. We keep walking and see a market fair. A lady approaches us asking if we could find a green necklace for her, while she is already holding two of the same necklaces that have very smooth coral/peach/pink stones on a gold chain.Â
She hands me one and V and I go to look at the jewellery display. I mention the good quality of the necklace that the lady has given me and almost wish I could keep it. The lady eventually approaches me again once she’s realized that she wants her necklace back.
I check my phone and see that J has sent me multiple messages and photos of baking ingredients like strawberries. I’m late because I didn’t know the talk would end so soon. She had messaged me asking if I was even coming to help her anymore. I turn to go back to the building, but I’m also thinking about how she is already so close to being done and there was not much I could do to help her.
// My senses felt so strong in this dream. I actually remember how lovely the rain felt, the smoothness of the stones and most definitely I remember that I was able to see the colour of them.

I was with C and we were in a store looking at cute Disney watches. I found out that her and mark had been dating again since July and was really upset with her because she has lied to me.
I was in the print studio choosing a litho stone. Anella wanted my old stone but I asked if I could keep it.
It was New Year's Eve and a costume party. C and I went with Anella and her boyfriend. I was going to be little red riding hood. When we got to the house, there were fires in both of them so we had to wait outside. It was an overnight sleepover event.
Also when I woke up I had texts from Carolyn and Heau. Nicola was Carolyn and she told me the worries she was having with her fiancé. She asked me a few questions about the mindset of high school seniors. At the end she said she talked it out with him one the phone the difference between summer and winter relationships. Also Heau wanted to come with C and I to our New Years party and he asked if he could get a discount. It would be about $40 for 2 tickets.
// I wrote this as a note on my phone, but forgot to post it.
