Since it's Pride Month, I wanted to share a little more about Dominic's backstory.
After leaving his family behind, Dominic found himself living among underground fighting circuits. For the first time in a long while, he felt like he belonged somewhere. It wasn't perfect, but it was a place where he thought he was accepted.
During that time, he met a man who became his training partner. At first, Dominic couldn't stand him. They clashed often, and every training session felt like a battle of stubbornness. But as the years passed, the two grew closer. Somewhere along the way, Dominic realized his feelings had changed into something deeper.
He had fallen in love with him.
The realization terrified him. Dominic had never expected to develop feelings for another man, especially not in the environment he lived in. He worried about what others would think. He was already seen as this intimidating, broad-shouldered boxer; the last thing he wanted was to become the target of judgment or ridicule.
Still, despite his fears, he eventually worked up the courage to confess.
But before he ever got the chance, everything fell apart.
One day, Dominic returned to their usual training area and witnessed something horrifying. His training partner was dragging a corpse through the underground tunnels. The man was distraught, repeating the same words over and over:
But when the authorities arrived, the man shifted the blame onto him.
Dominic was arrested for a crime he didn't commit.
The betrayal shattered him. Not only had he lost his freedom, but he had also lost the person he trusted most. The man he loved had sacrificed him to save himself.
Since then, Dominic has struggled to trust anyone. In his mind, every bond carries the risk of ending the same way. Every connection feels fragile. Temporary.
Because the one person he gave his heart to was the same person who destroyed his life.
