I return again with a question This may be a stretch but is there any fics where deans in a relationship with a girl and falls in love with cas and runs away w/him or leaves her for him?

No worries, this is not a stretch at all! Dean dating girls before he meets Cas is quite a popular trope in destiel fics. After all, that's canon. Here’s a small collection of such fics previously recced on our blog. I’ve selected fics where relationship with a girl is important to the plot and character development but of course, YMMV. I’ve also added fics with Cas dating a girl, since those are few and far between. And rest assured, there’s no girlfriend bashing in these fics. Sometimes a boy and a girl just don’t work out, right? Humorous and subversive take on what it means to be a closeted comic shop owner in a small, gossipy town. At the beginning of the fic, Dean, in a true disaster Bi fashion, has a mortifying first encounter with a very hot new guy. And it gets only worse after that. But fear not, Dean is a man with a plan, ready to correct his first faulty impressions with the most flamboyant coming out event you will ever read. Enjoy!

Freebies and Oak Trees

Freebies and Oak Trees by violue Rating: NC-17 Word Count: 32,300 Summary: It’s just a joke. Dean adding Castiel Novak to his “Celebrity Freebie” list is just a joke. Dean has a girlfriend, and besides, it’s not like he’s ever going to meet Castiel, let alone sleep with him. Right?

How hot is Castiel Novak? Hot enough that quietly bisexual Dean jokingly puts him on his list, despite a few raised eyebrows. It’s just fun and games, right? That is until the star of TVs Halo Project ends up in the same bar and Dean’s girlfriend Tessa yells, “You’re on Dean’s Freebie list”. Cue a searing kiss, a jealous girlfriend, a lurking wannabe boyfriend and pretty soon Dean’s life is in chaos. 

You can feel the FML vibe just pouring off poor Dean as he keeps running into Cas and then trying to explain the chance encounters to his girlfriend. Despite the rom com elements, there is a maturity to this story that doesn’t make light of Dean and Tessa’s increasingly conflicted relationship. The author also takes the time for Dean and Cas to transition from surprise dinner partners to close friends and eventually lovers. One of the things I really loved was the call back to supporting characters past and present. From early season favorites like Ash, Jo and Victor to more recent additions like Charlie, Billie, Kelvin and even Ketchup (eh hem, Ketch). And I loved Hannah, Cas’ long-suffering sister, who had one of the best comeback lines in the entire fic - just wait for it!!  The characterizations were spot on, even as the author tipped her hat to a few favorite moments in fandom (Gee Cas, how orange are those boxer briefs!) This was a beautifully constructed feel good story that was simply a delight to read.

This is kind of a tough one given that Dean and Meg’s relationship in canon was limited and antagonistic. That said, it seems that time heals all wounds in fandom and Meg is popping up in fics as a neutral to positive character.
