“leaving so soon?” you blink at him, a small frown pulling on your lips.
oikawa looks like a deer caught in headlights.
“ah,” he laughs. it sounds a little strained. “i thought i was being quiet, sorry if i woke you up.”
the sheets pool around your waist as you prop yourself up with one arm. “what’s the hurry? do you have somewhere to be right now?”
you see his adam’s apple bob up and down as he struggles to come up with an excuse.
now that you think about it, oikawa has been behaving a little strangely for a while now. he used to stay for a few hours after you wake up, even going as far as cooking you his specialty pancakes whenever he has the time.
even though the relationship the two of you have isn’t something you can put a label on easily, he treated you like he would treat someone he cares about. there was an emphasis on the ‘friends’ in friends with benefits.
but recently, he’s been acting really weird. he seem to always be in a rush to leave before you could even utter a ‘good morning’, and he can’t even hold your gaze for more than fifteen seconds at a time without having to avert his attention somewhere else.
yes, the oikawa tooru, is struggling to hold eye contact with you.
“you okay, tooru?” you ask, a look of concern in your eyes. “you’ve been acting kinda off lately, did i do something wrong?”
oikawa nods, and then shakes his head furiously. “no no you didn’t do anything wrong. you’re perfect- i mean, no. yeah, nothing’s wrong, don’t worry.”
you blink at him, mouth slightly agape.
ah, there it is. the roses in his cheeks has returned, and today, they’re in full bloom.
the flush on his face travels up the tips of his ears as he closes his eyes shut, embarrassed. hm, you bite the inside of your cheek, your own face heating up as well. everything makes more sense now.
running a hand through his hair, oikawa messes his brown locks even further. gone was the composed, flirty tooru—the one who’s perfect in every sense of the word.
you like this tooru better, you think to yourself.
holding back a smile, you crawl over to him and brush the stray curl out of his eyes. you gently hold his face in your palms, his soft skin warm against your touch.
with your face mere inches apart from his, you can smell the scent of his aftershave, possibly the one you bought for him on his birthday. your heart grow warm at the thought of this.
“stay a little longer?” you whisper, gaze falling down to his lips for a moment. “please?”
you didn’t offer him another word of reassurance, and you don’t really need to. those five words held more meaning than an entire encyclopedia ever could, and all at once, oikawa understands.
and he breathes, almost like he’s been holding his breath this whole time—as if the fondness you held in your gaze has revived his whole being.
there’s a sparkle in his eyes; a hint of bashfulness dancing on the upward curl of his lips.
“okay.” he gasps, eyes fluttering shut as he takes in your warm touch. “okay.”

he's genuinely confused and can't really tell if it is a joke or not.
oikawa loves to showcase his relationship with you, so the guy has to be a total stranger. either way, he would immediately inform them that you're taken, then would get all cocky and confident once the person's smile drops.
The guy seated next to you was staring at you, and oikawa noticed. he didn't like it, but hadn't the other guy seen him chatting with you before?
he thought so until the guy started talking.
“are you friends with them?”
the person asked, and then continued when oikawa glanced over at him.
“do they have a boyfriend?”
oikawa's eyes widened slightly, his brows furrowed, and his lips created a frown. he raised his arms over his chest and said,
“yes, they do actually. and their boyfriend is super hot and strong too, he could probably beat your ass.”
“ah, that's too bad. kinda sounds like you want him if you think he's so hot, huh?”
oikawa just rolled his eyes. he was about to answer whenever you walked over to the two of them, hand reaching out to him. he grabbed it quickly, then stood and began to walk away with you.
however, he made a point to turn and flash a victorious smile at the stranger.

OIKAWA TOORU ➞ his face would light up and his lips curled into a genuine smile, cheeks flushed with excitement. if you’re in an airport he would probably do the whole ‘running dramatically into your arms’ thing just to embarass you (and also because he misses you so so much and he can’t bear to be apart from your arms for a second longer) he’ll whisper plenty of i love yous into your ear as a small giggle bubbles in his chest. he’s not afraid to show you how much he’s been waiting for this day to come; he wants you to know exactly how much he loves you.
IWAIZUMI HAJIME ➞ his hands would be in his pockets, an air of nonchalance around him. the truth is, he is so excited to see you again, and the only way for him to surpress his true feelings is by pretending to impatiently tap his foot on the floor with a slight grumpy look on his face. when you shoot him the smile he has spent months dreaming about, his facade would immediately crack and he’ll envelope you in a giant hug, strong arms securely wrapped around your figure, one hand holding the back of your head by his chest so you’ll feel his erratic heartbeat and realize the effect you have on him.
MATSUKAWA ISSEI ➞ he would be smirking—that’s for sure. his tall figure would be leaning against the wall, arms crossed against his chest casually. you wouldn’t be able to know about the nervousness in his stomach and the fluttering of his heart unless you look really really closely. when you’re just a few feet away from him, he would open his arms widely and cheekily say ‘welcome home, baby’. and while in his embrace, he’ll sway from side to side so that the two of you looked like two silly little penguins in public and squeeze you tighter, finally letting you see how much he’s been waiting for you to come home.
HANAMAKI TAKAHIRO ➞ makki wouldn’t even attempt to hide his excitement to see you, his smile wide and genuine, the tips of his ears flushed in a pretty crimson hue. he would hug you so tightly and lift you up a little bit (your height doesn’t matter; he’ll still pick you up), spinning around slightly, making you feel all giddy inside. when he lets go, he won’t let go completely—his thumbs would make tiny circles on your hips as he gazes into your eyes before pulling you in for yet another hug. he can’t seem to get enough of you, eyes sparkling with disbelief as if he can’t believe you’re back in his arms again.

AKAASHI KEIJI ➞ akaashi invites you to go on a walk with him after enjoying a nice dinner the two of you cooked together. you don’t really think twice about it because the two of you do go on walks pretty often anyways. you grasp his hand, snuggling closer as the chilly night air nips at your skin. “my love, do you remember our first date?” he asks, placing a small peck on the back of your hand that’s intertwined with his. “mhm! we went on a cute little picnic in this exact same park, right?” you smile brightly at him.
