Rereading Don’t Look Back (love it HOLY FUCK) and I was wondering your thoughts on Sith having yellow eyes? On one hand, yellow eyes Cool, but on the other evil people being physically recognizable as Evil is…uh…problematic…

(My HC is that it’s just a force ability side effect that happened to be popular with the Sith. Like, metaphysical welding goggles if you’re working with lightning, and the Sith just ran with the Drama)

Oh maaaaaaan...

So, ON THE ONE HAND, I am a Complete Sucker for eyes glowing/changing color with magic/special power usage. Just, no logical explanation. I'm here for it.

BUT ON THE OTHER HAND!

I've never liked it in Star Wars? Ever?

Partly I think because it is a thing only Sith do (why no glowing purple/white/green/literally anything eyes for Ultimate Light Side Usage, guys???), and wasn't really a big deal in the OT. Not sure when it showed up as a Sith Thing exactly (was it TPM? RoTS? in a novel? I know nothing about the EU guys), but I side eye it with the suspicion I give most late additions, especially ones that lean into dualistic Light Side/Dark Side nonsense.

I'll spare you the rant here (I think I may have touched on it before in other posts) but I...am not really into Light/Dark aspects of the Force. DLB is going to deal with the Jedi Order's view incorporating that dualism, and Leia's fundamental rejection of it. So yellow eyes are not really going to be a big thing in my fic, if they show up at all (unlikely).

But if I were to accept that changing eye color was something people did when accessing the Force, I would go All In. All colors! AU where each color has a meaning! AU where colors have no meaning! AU where you pick your colors!
