Kāmohoaliʻi, Kalei and their son; baby Nanaue!
I combined some aspects of Kaikea's (the woman portrayed as "delusional" for believing herself to be Nanaue's mom in Superboy '94) design with a pre-colonial look for Kalei's design. Kaikea eventually feeds her arm to Nanaue in the comics, so she's an amputee.
In my au, Kalei is a queer kapa-maker who falls in love with Kāmohoaliʻi the Shark God. This takes place long before Hawai'i was colonized. No, Kalei did not feed her arm to a shark. And no, Kāmohoaliʻi did not bite it off in a misplaced habit from shark-mating. Kalei is just born limb different this time! To Kāmohoaliʻi, there's nothing incomplete about her.
I'm trying out adding some ray-vibes to Kāmohoaliʻi. As a nod to how sharks and rays share similar biology. His merman form needed something a little extra for his head shape, so ray wings it is I guess! Yes, it's Prince Sidon and Shape of Water inspired. For baby Nanaue, I'm trying to not echo Jeff the Land Shark too much.
