March for More: Are you... stuck?
MASTERPOST
Danny giggles, feeling the sand scrape against his underbelly as he shifts his tail slightly. He’s cramped where he lays under a reef with his fins all bunched up on the rocks. Moving removes only a smidge of his discomfort, but Danny refuses to abandon his spot, not until he’s won his game.
“DANNY!” The yell calls out again, closer than it’s been in hours, and Danny has to cover his mouth when he sees a black and blue tail dart by his hiding spot. “Where are you, little one? It’s late; please come out!”
Danny thinks Dick sounds too worried for what is just a simple game of hide n’ seek. Though, the older mer is always worried over the silliest things. Just remembering how frantically Dick swims after him whenever he gets too far brings another, louder giggle bubbling up his throat.
For his laughter, Danny is met with the black and blue tail just outside the opening. “Danny? Pup, was that you? Are you here?” Dick’s tail jerks and sways wildly as he searches around the coral, trying to find Danny’s spot. Danny forgets everything about being quiet to laugh after the third time he sees Dick swim by without seeing him. “Danny, this isn’t funny! Please, we have to go!”
Danny still laughs, but he slides every so slightly forward, wincing as his tail catches on the rocks above. “You’re so silly! I’m right here, see?” He sticks his hand out right as Dick passes by, waving it with a giggle.
“Oh, Pup, there you are! You had me worried sick, do you even know how long its been? You missed lunch and everyone has been searching for hours! How did you even get out this far…” Dick grumbles and whines, tail flicking in idle worry as he peers into the hiding spot. The older mer's eyes scan over him and the crawlspace Danny has squeezed himself into, pausing as he sees the predicament Danny has found himself in. “Are you… stuck?”
Danny chuffs, “Of course not! I could’ve left at any point.”
“Uh-huh. Right, okay—prove it.”
Danny glares at Dick’s self-assured grin and twitches his tail, pressing his hands against the ground to drag himself forward. “Ouch!” He hisses, relaxing his body to stop the pain in his back. Looking back, he can see a sharp protrusion of rock pressed into his back and wrapped in his fin from all his shuffling, the same as it had been for the last few hours.
He can feel the echoing whine build in his throat and the answering coo from Dick. “Oh, little pup, its okay. Let me help.” He reaches in and Danny ducks his head as Dick gently untangles his fin with gentle, precise claws. “You’ve got to be more careful, Danny. Your fins are still growing, you need to be gentle with them or you won’t be able to swim with all the big mers one day.”
“I know…” he pouts, cooing softly as Dick easily slides him out of his hiding spot. “But—But I was being chased, I didn't know what else to do…”
“Chased? That damn shark that's been stealing our fish, right?" The mer churrs deeply, an annoyed frown pulling at his lips, "I’ll tell Bruce to deal with it, though maybe Jason would be better…” Dick hums and haws as he holds Danny loosely to his underbelly, swimming steadily forward.
Danny knows they’re heading back to the den, can smell his pod as they get closer and can practically hear their admonishing churrs and relieved coos that are soon to come. The pup lets his eyes close, tired from the long day of playing. “You’ve gotta stay awake, puppy. You still need to eat, remember?” Dick reminds with a fond huff of laughter, running his claws through Danny’s hair.
Danny gives a purr and then a soft and slow whine as he leans into the familiar sensation. “Oh, whatever," Dick hums. "Sleep, I’ll wake you up once we’re home.” The pup purrs louder as sleep settles in, hiding his satisfied grin—works every time.

The portal had left them all in a forest. Which, pretty normal all things considered. But uh, also kind of annoying. It meant they didn't know where they were. Which. Sucks. But whatever, they tried, they don't get to choose where they end up while chasing that fuckass lizalfos.
Wild looked around, finding some semblance of familiarity in the surroundings. But he didn't try with checking his map. It probably wouldn't work anyway, it never did anymore. Plus, it's Hyrule in general, all of them will find some familiarity in the surroundings.
The chain had wandered around for maybe an hour before the vet pointed out a weird stone carving thing. And when Wild saw it, that stone dragon head on a pillar, he immediately reached for his sheikah slate. His map worked. They were in his Hyrule. A huge, giddy smile cracked his face almost in half, he was so excited to be back. And he could show the others around, show them the old guardians and old Divine Beasts, have them meet Zelda, maybe let them stay at his house for a bit and show them the old champion's weapons. That would be cool. He took special care not to use the weapons belonging to the old champions. He'd be extremely upset if they broke or got lost.
"Guys, I know where we are," he finally announced to the group. "Faron Woods. There's a stable somewhere nearby that we can stay for the night at." Wild shows his sheikah slate to the old man, pointing to the little horse symbol that meant a stable.
Time squinted at the technology held in front of him, not understanding anything about it. "Which way do you suggest we go??"
Wild lit up even more than before. Oh how excited he was to be able to lead the others around for once. "East and South of here are two different stables, I showed you the one to the South. It might be farther though, so maybe we should head East." The old man nodded in response. "Then East we go. Lead the way, Champion."
It took them the rest of the day to get to the stable. Most of the group found it odd, a horse shape on the top, people scattered about. Hyrule pointed out an axe sticking out of the top of the horse's head, and Wild smiled. "Yeah, Cima isn't around anymore and Anly liked the lightning. So he asked me to put it back up there, since it attracts lightning during storms," Wild explained, his hands moving with his words. He'd always gestured about when he talked.
"Look, a korok!!" Wind exclaimed, pointing at the little green korok hanging onto a spinning leaf to keep it afloat under the chin of the horse top. Wild smiled wider and nodded, moving a hand into the sailor's hair and messing it up. "Yeah, that one I didn't notice until a little bit after getting here. It was hiding in some leave I had to burn."
Wild bounces inside and starts talking to Anly, excited to finally to talk someone that he knows. The others look around the area, with Warriors, Hyrule, and Four going to check out the bridge nearby. It was long, the lake under it surrounded by waterfalls. Really, it was beautiful.
Everyone else seemed confused, Four even asking Legend if he saw anything. The vet shook his head and started staring at Wild, wondering if he ate something he wasn't supposed to and started seeing things. He wouldn't put it past him, he's seen Wild eat rocks before. Actually, he's also seen Wild eat a handful of dirt. It was..... definitely something.
"Is his Hyrule always this beautiful??" asked the traveler, looking around at the scene with amazement. He wasn't paying much attention to wear he was going, and almost walked off the edge of the bridge. Thank goodness the captain grabbed a fistful of the back of his tunic and pulled him back. "Watch where you walk," he chided.
Hyrule, now on the safer middle of the bridge walkway, rubs the back of his neck in embarrassment. "Sorry, captain. Won't happen again."
"It will, but please actively try not to let it," retorted the captain in question. They reach the middle of the bridge itself, a couple of squirrels running off when they approach. Four moves over to the extended area and just looks out to also take in their surroundings. It was starting to get dark, and he looked up from the landscape to the orange-pink sky.
"We should go back," the captain voices after a long pause. Four nods and turns to walk back to the stable, Hyrule following after him. Warriors stays still for a little longer, looking up at the sky as it grows darker before finally he starts back towards the stable as well.
Wild had apparently convinced Anly to let him get use of all 3 beds. After some argument and discussion, the group finally settles on who gets the beds. Four and Time share one, Wind and Legend share one, and Wild gets one for himself because the group agreed he deserved it for getting the other beds and for showing everyone around his Hyrule (which he would have done anyway, but he isn't complaining about getting to sleep on a bed for a night).
---
By 5 am, Wild is up. He tries to move one of the others onto his bed (Sky, who was closest to the bed), but ultimately gives up after a minute or two. He walks outside and moves over to the middle of Floria Bridge, watching the sky as a sudden updraft picks up around him. He giggles as his hair goes up into the air.
Twilight groggily wakes up, and it feels far too early to be up. Sky was moved just a bit closer to the now empty bed that was supposed to hold Wild. He sits up, looking around for the missing blonde. At the table is the captain, talking to Kampo (not that Twi knows his name) and it looks like drinking something from a cup. When he finally sits up, Wars looks over and smiles.
"Hey," he greets, "good morning. How'd you sleep??"
"Pretty good," Twilight groggily answers. "You??"
"Good," Warriors replies back. Twilight nods in response. He looks around again, looking for Wild. "Where's the champion??"
"No clue," Warriors gets up and looks at the recipe posted on the wall. "Woke up to him gone. Maybe he's outside."
And, in that moment, Wild strolls back inside. He's absolutely soaked, but he looks happy. A big smile is on his face, even if he's shivering. "Hey guys." Both awake boys turn to him and deadpan at his current appearance. Wild only laughs. He really doesn't care right now. He's happy.
When all the other boys finally wake up, it's maybe 8:30 am, and Wild is more dry than he was before (Twilight had him sit by the fire outside, which gave him time to cook breakfast for the others too). Nine plates of meaty rice balls and ten minutes of packing later, the boys are ready to get going. Twilight, finishing up with fastening his saddle to and around Epona, looks back over to the stable just as Wild gets onto a horse of his own. He has such a big smile on his face, patting the blue and white mare and petting her mane. He even leans forward enough to feed her an apple. How cute.
Time pat Wild's horse on the side softly when she trotted over. She was quite the beauty. Blue legs and belly that spotted off into white on her back, neck, and head. Not Epona, but Wild always did have a penchant for being the outlier of the Links.
"What's her name??" The old man questioned, now petting the horse. She huffed, moving back just a small bit. Though, when Time followed to keep petting her, she stayed still for him.
"Spotty," replied the champion. "Wanna give her one??" In his outstretched hand was an apple, likely acquired from the slate clipped to his left hip. Time took it with a thanks, moving to feed it to Spotty.
The others finish up with getting ready to go as well, before all of them head off back into the Faron Woods. And after some time, they reach a really, really long bridge. The Bridge of Hylia, Wild told them all. It wasn't too bad of a walk. In the middle there were a group of lizalfos (for some reason Wild just calls them big lizards, it bugs all of the others), but they weren't too much of a fight. Nobody got hurt, even if the horses got a little spooked.
They had to pass between two mountains, and Wild narrated the legend that a dragon had carved what was once one mountain into two, which is why it was how it was (most likely though, it was probably erosion). Some of them found it really interesting, actually. Legend kept fighting with Warriors about if it was real or not, yelling about how it could be because you never know what could have happened.
It was almost dark, now. But they had managed to get to the Dueling Peaks Stable. Just like before, Wild managed to get all three beds. Though, this time he insists one of the others take the bed everyone agreed he should have. He really doesn't seem to want it this time, and actually leaves to talk to Beedle and get some more arrows.
The others had decided to let Sky have the last bed, since Wild had tried to move him onto the other one back in the Lakeside Stable. So everyone settles down, and Wild sits down against the wall to fall asleep like that.
---
Hyrule is the one to wake up first, this time. It's still dark out, but it looks like a clear night, so he gets up and walks out. There's a pond across the dirt path from the stable, with one of the shrines Wild told them about in the middle. The blue glow fascinated the traveler, and if it didn't also terrify him, he'd walk closer to inspect it further. He looked around some more, curious about the surrounding area.
Hyrule watched as the sun rose behind the stable, and the others slowly start to wake up inside as the morning ticks by. When Wild gets up, Hyrule watches him make breakfast, which this time is buttered apples with warm milk. Everyone, when awake, finds this very yummy (because who doesn't love some warm milk). Just like before, all nine of them get all their things together and get ready to leave. Wild gets on Spotty and Twilight gets on Epona, both of them the last two to finish getting ready to go. Now they're off.
The moon was visible close to the horizon between the two mountains, and slowly lowering more and more as time passed. The stars twinkled in the sky, and Hyrule could recognize a couple constellations from his own Hyrule. Seems star patterns don't vary across eras or timelines. Though, they've been around for billions of years and have billions more to go, he severely doubted a couple thousand years could change that.
They took to the path to Hateno, and in the distance, north of the village, was Mount Lanayru. Legend is the first to stop walking, staring with wide eyes towards the mountain. Four stops and tugs on the captain's scarf and almost choking him in his attempt to get his attention. Warriors whips around to chew him out before noticing Legend's surprised expression. He follows his gaze, his expression also turning to surprise.
"Hey champion," Wars calls out, "Why didn't you tell us you had a dragon flying around your Hyrule??"
That gets everyone else's attention, and everyone but Wild turns to look at the captain in confusion. Legend is still staring at the mountain. "I thought I did tell you all," Wild calls back. "And it isn't just one. I got three of 'em."
"Three?!" Legend snaps, finally tearing his eyes away from the mountain. "You didn't tell anyone that!!"
"The day before yesterday when I was soaked, I swam in Lake Floria to get a dragon scale from Farosh." Wild looks so unconcerned with the current situation. It kind of concerned the others. Speaking of the others, a couple of them turned to look at Mount Lanayru as well, and they also see the blue and white dragon moving around the peak of the mountain.
"They have names?? You named them??" Legend's questions make Wild laugh. "I didn't name them. That one up there is Naydra. Farosh sticks around Lake Hylia and Lake Floria. Dinraal follows along a canyon to the west before circling around and going to Death Mountain. They just have names," he explains. In fact, he grabs his sheikah slate and pulls up the Hyrule Compendium, getting to the dragons and showing that they do, in fact, have names that he didn't pick for them. That seems to calm Legend down some.
"So that one is.... Naydra??" Legend asked hesitantly. Wild nodded with a patient smile. "She needed a little help when I first found her. She had malice covering parts of her body that I had to get rid of. I like to think she's happy now that she's malice free." Legend smiled at that. It was a nice thought. Such a big creature, happy a smaller creature saved it. But, to be fair, anyone would be happy to be saved from anything they needed saving from.
They all continued on, passing Fort Hateno. Wild looked at one specific guardian and shuddered as they all walked past. Nobody said anything about it. It wasn't their place to. Passing the cabin just beyond the walls, they almost stop to rest before Wild reminds them how close they are to Hateno. So they continue.
Finally, they reach the village. It's such a nice environment, it's no wonder Wild chose to settle down here. Well, settle down when he could. They all follow his lead (as if they weren't already) as he brings them to his house. It's small, sure, but they could all figure something out. All of them leave the house after setting down their bags and belongings, exploring the small village. Twilight even leaves Epona to graze near Wild's house. Spotty refuses to leave Wild's side.
Everyone split off to explore, Wild leading around only Time and Legend (who didn't want to walk around alone). They got the grand tour of Hateno Village. It was nice. The dye shop was amazing, the inn looked nice, and Wild even led the two of them to the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab to meet Purah. It was actually fun for Time and Legend.
On the way back down for the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab, the trio spots Twilight and Hyrule on their way to Hateno Beach. Hyrule waves when he notices them. The five of them move closer to actually speak to each other. The traveler is the one to speak first.
"There was a girl at the ranch nearby that said monsters on the beach got her sheep again. So me and the ran her were going to go get them back." Wild makes a face at that. It happened again?? Eww. But he stays quiet, not wanting to start any argument on whether or not to go get the sheep again. Time makes the decision for Wild and Legend to tag along as well, and all five boys make their way down to the beach, Spotty in tow as well.
Six bokoblins (1 blue, 3 black, and 2 silver) and a Moblin (black) were the only monsters at the camp. Three sheep sit in the same spot Wild remembers them being last time, too. He reaches for his sheikah slate, looking through his weapons before settling on a Edge of Duality he had. He clips the slate back to his side and grips the blade with both hands. The others look just as ready to fight as he felt.
The moblin is the first to notice them, stomping over with a long stick to try jabbing at them. Hyrule is the one to take it on, the others moving around it to let the traveler fight. There were two bokoblins on the ground, who immediately get up and grab clubs, and two more holding long sticks as well come down from the platform built above the water. The last two bokoblins start to shoot arrows at the heroes, forcing them to fight and dodge the arrows.
Twilight finishes off the bokoblin that went for him first, torn between helping the now struggling traveler or getting at least one of the bokoblins shooting arrows. He decides it best to help his friend and turns to go help. Legend finishes his off next, moving for the way up to the platform with his fire rod in hand. Wild and Time finish theirs off at the same time, Wild heading to help Legend with getting at the bokoblins with bows. Time turns to help Twilight and Hyrule with the moblin.
Wild barely makes it to the way up to the platform before he hears the Old Man cry out. When he turns back to make a quick check on him, he's horrified at the sight. Time with a hand over his eye, and peeking between his fingers is the sturdy shaft of an arrow.
Wild rushes over, finding the older hero panicking. So Wild does the first thing he can do and leads Time away from the fight, towards Spotty. He has a plan, but it may take him a minute. Though, Time gets the idea and climbs onto Spotty behind Wild, who gets Spotty to start racing back up the path. Yeah, he left the others. This is more important though. Their friend, brother in name and title, is hurt. And Wild is getting him to the first person he knows can help.
---
It takes him a while, but finally Spotty reaches Kakariko Village. Wild didn't look behind him once. He couldn't. He didn't want to see the man behind him hurt. When Spotty tried to slow down inside the village, Wild wouldn't let her. He turned her up the slope towards the Ta'loh Naeg shrine and past it towards the open fairy fountain. When Spotty stops suddenly, the small fairies start to fly away. That's okay. He wasn't here for them anyway.
He helped Time down from the horse, then led him closer to the fairy fountain. Cotera, in all her glory, pops out of the middle just like always. But this time, when she looks at the heroes in front of her, she stops and gasps. Wild explained the situation, and Cotera beckoned the hurt hero closer. Wild turned away, not wanting to see the injury. He couldn't take it.
They were talking, the line "poor fairy" going in one ear and out the other to Wild. There's more talking and Wild covers his ears. A minute ticks by, but to Wild it feels like forever. Then, a hand lands softly on his shoulder and he jumps before turning to see whose hand it is.
Time stands next to him, a smile on his face. He's better. Thank fucking Hylia. There's a small squeeze to Wild's shoulder that he barely registers before he lunges at the old man and hugs him. He's shaking, they both are, but now they're both okay. And that's all they need right now.
---
They didn't try to rush back to Hateno, but they did head back. But they managed to get there. They reach Wild's house and the other boys all seem to be there, and when Wild opens the door they all turn to see who it is. Wind runs over to hug Time just like Wild did, Hyrule looking like he's holding back from doing so. Everyone looks so relieved. No doubt one of the three that saw had told the others.
"Is your eye okay??" the captain asked, looking him over worryingly.
"It is now," answered the older hero with a soft smile. "I'll be okay."
Wild moved outside to make dinner for everyone, Four and Sky following behind to watch him cook. Neither of them were paying much attention to what the champion was making, mostly talking to each other. But they were out here for him to make sure he was okay too. So.
Four was the one to speak up. "Hey," he started, "the vet told us what happened. Are you okay?? I can't imagine seeing that would be very fun." He looked a lot like he was struggling with saying that, his eyes darting every which way in thought.
Wild only nodded, mostly just wanting to think about something else. Sky noticed and decided to change the subject. "So you told the vet about that dragon we saw."
"I didn't tell him much about her, nor did I only talk about here," Wild responded. "I have two others going around. If you're interested, I can tell you about them."
Sky turned to Four, who turned to face Sky in return. They both nodded with small smiles. "Tell us," Sky said.
---
Another portal had opened up. None of them had even seen that stupid lizard. But, they burned daylight to pack everything up from Wild's house and get ready to leave. Just before they did, Wild's Zelda had rode into town. They talked for a few minutes, shared a hug (and some of the boys think they may have shared a small, quick kiss, but Wild came back over completely unphased so they brushed it off), and now all of them were on their way.
The champion lingered behind the rest of the group for another moment, looking around his Hyrule one last time before stepping forward into the unknown with his brothers in name and title. "Until next time," were his last words before passing through fully to the other side, continuing with his past iterations on their quest to save Hyrule at all points in time.
