I was thinking about the kaminoans and how they're really just fish with legs, yeah? And I was thinking about how they probably only have a basic outline/understanding of how humans work outside of science books and statistics. They specialize in selective breeding, genetics, and clone making for their species first and foremost. They know enough chemistry and biology to manipulate genetics for humans, but that's about it.
And I'm just imagining some of the first clones they created. And they're training them in all sorts of things they must know– how to hold a gun, how to work with explosives, and how to swim.
Kaminoans must know how to swim from birth or at least from a very young age, and they don't have to worry about drowning at all– they can breathe under water.
So, when the cadets are little but can now run and walk, they don't think twice, the kaminoans do what makes sense to them.
They throw them in the water.
And the cadets sink and they don't come up.
Maybe a few make it, survival instincts coming out and letting them doggy paddle over to an edge so they can hold onto something or climb out, sobbing and shaking, but miraculously alive.
But most thrash and sink and drown.
The kaminoans are confused. They try once more. Then twice. They keep going, thinking perhaps they made defective clones and need to alter something in the code. But nothing seems to work. They toss cadet after cadet into the waters, only one or two making it out for every two or more dozen thrown in. But eventually the kaminoans cave and they go to Fett or a trainer and ask if perhaps they are missing something. And then they learn.
They learn that human children can't swim from birth. Babies know how to instinctively hold their breath, but they can't swim. It has to be taught.
And so swimming lessons are put into place, a trainer given the job to oversee that part of training.
But I imagine there are lots of haunted pools on Kamino. Filled with the ghosts of little cadets who never made it out.
