thinking about robby who's like. incredibly well regarded in the medical community for his work both in and out of the ER, and so he's invited to speak at a lot of conferences. they're pretty formal affairs, suits and ties and the lot, as well as the ability to bring a plus one along.

he used to not bring anyone, not interested in bringing a friend since others at the conference would speculate over if they were together or not, but now? he brings dennis. at first dennis is apprehensive- what will people think of him and robby? he's not dumb, he knows their age gap raises eyebrows, and he doesn't want robby's colleagues (and the wider us medical field) to think that he'd only got his residency by sleeping with the boss.

robby understood his concerns, very aware that there will absolutely be eyes on him too (though when it came to rich doctors, it wasn't all that rare to see them with a much younger partner on their arm), but he reassures dennis. he's not ashamed of their relationship- in fact, he wants to show dennis off, show everyone how beautiful he is. he's not afraid of people talking, judgemental as they may possibly be. he wants to love dennis loudly, as long as dennis wants that too.

dennis gets quite mushy about the whole declaration robby gives him really- being wanted is still quite new. he gives robby one condition. don't tell people that he's also in medicine, and don't tell them he technically works under robby. dennis refuses to have nepotism rumours flying, not when he worked so hard to study medicine at all.

robby takes him very seriously. he would never jeopardise dennis's career in any way. they agree that when people ask, dennis is a theology graduate- it's not untrue, and it's something dennis can answer polite small talk about if necessary.

neither of them are prepared for just how much everyone *loves* dennis. robby's fucking smitten already, besotted with how fucking good dennis looks dressed up fancy, and it feels like he's the one clutching onto dennis as a plus one, rather than the other way around.

although there was initially some sideways glances at the pair, everyone who got so much as a word in with the pretty curly blonde came away gushing. robinavitch's boy... so sweet, so happy to talk, so enthusiastic and kind and smart, though not in medicine (little did they know).

it gets to the stage where people are coming over to them just to meet dennis, because word has got around so quickly that the renowned bachelor, grumpy and sad, has had a new lease of life poured into him thanks to this dennis. the only side eyes that happen now are ones that pass between people who never knew dr robinavitch could look so happy or could blush and smile the way he did when listening to his boy.

robby enjoys the conference more than he has in fifteen years, and promises to bring dennis along to the next one as per his colleagues requests. as they're finally leaving in the early hours, ever so slightly flushed and tipsy, one man robbys age comes up to him and slaps him on the shoulder good naturedly.

"great speech today, robinavitch, great to meet your partner too. don't let that one slip through your fingers, hey? put a ring on him before the next one!"

robby turns into a tomato, red and stuttering. dennis can't hear anything over the pounding in his chest. an illusion to marriage? robby marrying him? and his colleagues approving after *one* night? oh blimey. their sex that night is soft and pure and really fucking good. both of them cry tears of pleasure and ignore the ironing their crumpled suits will need. in the afterglow, robby researches jewellers.

and, as per the other doctors words? by the time the next conference rolls around, dennis has a shiny rock the size of everest planted on his finger, and a soon to be hyphenated last name. robby can take advice sometimes.
