this is part of my Greenwood worldbuilding - while they do build talans as Lothlórien does, they are of a somewhat different style, to better suit their pine forest

a small collection of these in a tight copse of trees would be considered a village, and residents are typically deeply familiar with one another, as villages are spread few and far between across Greenwood's massive territory

Tauriel's parents befriend her future guardian in this way, knowing his family, before he moves to Felegoth in order to tailor outfits for the King

unfortunately, with the encroachment of spiders, most villages are abandoned as they offer little protection. Felegoth -- Thranduil's cave halls -- had always been designed as a last refuge in times of crisis. its population surges from a skeleton crew to most elves of Mirkwood until the vanquishing of the Necromancer
