Second Year Trio Personality Analysis (Using Rock-Paper-Scissors)
So I saw this art of the Second Year Trio playing Jan-ken-pon (Rock-Paper-Scissors) and reaching a complete draw and I remember jokingly saying at the time, 'wow if this was official art, I'd almost believe there's an actual reason each character is shown using their chosen attack shape' and then later found out it WAS in fact official art so....analysis to be had.
So here's that completely unnecessary analysis for yall based on a little too much psychology and pattern reading LMAO:
Kaji Ren - Rock.
People who choose rock are usually said to have a direct but unoriginal approach to things. But what rock implies about his personality is that of a solid, grounded individual who can also be very stubborn. He's an immovable force that approaches things realistically.
Enomoto Takeshi - Scissors.
Kaji's rock beats Enomoto's scissors, an ironic comparison considering the result of the two brawling over who would be grade captain. It is said that those that choose scissors are more strategic in their mindset over rock's stubborn repetitive choices. They are more creative and in that same vein, it fits that it would imply further the charisma that Enomoto is known to have. But scissors also implies a personality that can be sharp and cutting to those that are not prepared.
Kusumi Yuto - Paper.
Last but not least is Kusumi with paper. Paper is known for being an implication of diplomacy, the idea that paper is known for carrying forth words and speech. It implies a person who sits in the middle, who deliberates and helps bring balance - as Kusumi does with Enomoto and Kaji. Enomoto with scissors cuts through Kusumi's paper - the charisma the former has easily trumping the diplomacy. However, paper beats rock, showing that Kusumi's diplomacy and balance is usually an easy win over Kaji's stubbornness, perhaps one of few who can change the boy's mind on things.
For all three to choose a different attack shape, the game results in a draw where no one wins. However, that draw only shows how much of a balance the three of them are to each other and how perfect they are as a trio.
:3
