I just keep thinking about Ryan saying this
- spending a lot of time together - the car crash is gonna happen fairly early imo the episode - so how are we getting them reunited again early enough that they’re spending a lot of time together - is Eddie gonna go looking for Buck - find him and also end up trapped?? Is Buck going to start hallucinating Eddie as he’s fighting to escape? Does he think Eddie is dead? Either way he’ll be fighting to get free so he can get to Eddie and Chris and to LA and the rest of his family.
Then Oliver said this
And that got me thinking - I think it’s going to be an older female kidnapper - who lost her son - a sort of reverse Norman bates (and also a really interesting psychological play on the Daniel of it all an the fact buck is a sort of replacement son). I think we might see. Buck an Eddie come across her on the road trip somewhere - like a rest stop or something - she sees her dead so. In Buck and so she follows them and rams her truck into their car - causing the car crash. She then rescues buck and takes him back to the motel she owns or is using.
She dresses buck in her dead child’s clothes - hence why he’s in the slightly ooc pink/red striped cotton rugby jersey we see him in (it’s like his coma dream outfit not brim a buck outfit!) - when buck comes too and tries to escape she gets angry an because she’s unhinged - having had a mental breakdown post her sons death she ends up trying him up to keep him there. She probably begins torturing him in some way to try and ‘cure him from his amnesia of not recognising her etc.
Maybe Eddie finds buck fairly early on (probably ignores Athena’s advice to stay put - just like he did with Abigail - and just going plowing in to try and save buck - because it’s buck and the stakes are even higher than they were with Abigail) and she then imprisons him up as well - then tortures Eddie as a way of getting compliance out of Buck - it’s a way of Buck and Eddie spending a lot of time together - as they plot to escape and their mind meld working together relationship is really put to the test.
They then either find a way to escape or the firefam mange to get to them in time (my money is on buddie escaping for themselves as it’s more impactful).
That then creates a scenario where both Buck and Eddie have psychological scars and also can make them cling to one another whilst also pulling them apart - which all plays into feelings realisations starting to happen - then Buck collapses with whatever illness he has we just got bts of - and furthers feelings realisations even more and sets up buddie canon nicely as it does all that Oliver said - Buck dealing with new things and the repercussions lasting a while, because he could be poisoned by whatever happens during the kidnapping - especially if she injects him with stuff to try and bring him under her control - which is lasting repercussions to deal with.
And the big questions to answer - the buddie of it all is the obvious answer here because it’s thee big question that’s always there hovering and waiting to be answered. And that brings into play the whole decisions about what his life looks like going forward - is he truly prepared to commit to Eddie and them as a couple because it’s endgame, and what dos that mean for his job and Eddie’s job - can they work at the same station etc etc.
The opening space arc/ episodes more or less foreshadows a lot of this stuff. As do a lot of the other plots from other episodes this season. I’m not going to have time to get my very very long meta posts completed - life is just too busy - but I do have the semi detailed notes I wrote after each episode which I could post with a little bit of explanation if people would be interested. There’s also a lot of parallels with so many other scenes and arcs from across the seasons.
