Dean was lying on the soft fabric covering their mattress, blissfully listening to the hum of Cas’s breathing and slowly drifting off to sleep.

Well, he was, until he heard the bed frame creak and felt a small, warm body wiggling in between them.

Cas opened one eye suspiciously, causing Jack to giggle. “What are you doing up?” He whispered softly.

“I had a really important question for you and De!”

“Oh?” Cas sat up, scooting backwards until he felt the fluffy pillows behind him.

Dean turned over on his side, resting his head in his hand and looking at their son.

Their son.

Those words alone -- while still quiet foreign -- made his heart insurmountably lighter.

“Do you like pancakes or waffles more?” He looked at Dean, face plastered with a grin.

“Definitely pancakes.” Dean said, nodding slightly.

“What about you, Cas?”

He pondered the question for a moment, face angling towards Jack as he answered quietly. “Waffles. They have little pockets for putting toppings in.”

Jack stared up at him, mouth wide and eyes glistening in childlike admiration.

“Which one do you like more, Jack?” Dean ran his fingers through Jack's soft hair, smiling.

He looked at Dean very seriously, as if the answer to his question would decide his entire future.
