Ohhh today was hard. Bullet points?
- B hurt his back lifting pep this morning and was out of commission. Big time. Hobbling around, etc. You know how dudes do when they’re sick or injured.
- After some heat and ibuprofen, B thought the waterfall hike I’d been planning for this week would still be doable. Walking felt manageable.
- After a short bit of the drive, B was too uncomfortable. We stopped at a much earlier trailhead and hiked for maaaaybe 5-10 minutes before I insist we turn back. Even that much walking seemed to do him some harm.
- Spent the rest of the day home, being exhausted myself, and taking care of pep and B.
- Pep refused to go down for bed tonight and after an hour of standing and rocking him, because he would freak every time I sat in the rocking chair, I just left him in the crib and walked out. Somehow, by some miracle, he fell asleep.
I know tonight B won’t be able to even so much as get out of bed to help with pep, so it’s all me. And likely will be all me all weekend long, taking care of them both. I’m just hoping B is feeling better by Monday when I have to go back to work. Sigh. I’m so freaking tired. It’s 8:30pm and I haven’t eaten since lunch.. at this point I’m just calling it quits and going to bed. It’s times like this when I really miss not having family nearby the most. It’s always just the two of us, all the time, no matter what. We get zero help or support or “time off”.. really ever. I love these boys, but man, I’ve got nothing left to give today.

We have this little cubby in our kitchen, right by the back door, and we usually toss our shoes in there when we come inside. Toss is the operative word here. We literally take the shoes off and throw them into the cubby.. I wish I had taken a photo. Imagine 8 pairs of shoes randomly thrown into a pile. I’ve gotten tired of looking at Shoe Pile, so I ordered a shoe organizer on Amazon. It took 5 minutes to put together and it totally transformed the space. That, plus bleaching the super dirty and scuffed cubby walls, and it looks so much better. Major win!
Pep, B and I got out for a short hike yesterday — this week’s weather has been incredible. Pep wore his new paw patrol sunglasses for some of it.. he likes to take them off and inspect them, but when he leaves them on, it kills me. It’s so cute. I can’t handle it.
After the hike we stopped at this local ice cream place that I’ve been hearing amazing things about from the local mom group. They make everything themselves and have lots of seasonal flavors. I opted for a scoop of chocolate Oreo and a scoop of pumpkin with salted caramel... so delicious.
Pep is also really digging his new high chair! Tumblr won’t let me link anything, but it’s the Graco Table2Table. It’s miles and miles better than his old one.
Speaking of pep, seems like he’s back to normal from his flu shot on Monday. Last night’s sleep was much better, and I even caught him on the baby monitor camera around 4:30am picking his binky up and putting it back in himself so he could fall back asleep. Such a big boy! 🥺
Oh! And fruit fly update: y’all were right. I have two cups of apple cider vinegar in the kitchen, covered with plastic wrap with a few small holes poked in it.. I get so much satisfaction looking in them and seeing that they’re catching fruit flies. I keep saying things like “prepare to die!” and faking a maniacal laugh when I check them.. B keeps telling pep it sounds like “mommy’s going to war against the fruit flies”. Whatever works, right?
