It had taken some time to convince Eddie that a trip together, alone, would be worth it. It had taken even more convincing to get Eddie to pack his bags, leave behind his job, and dedicated three weeks of vacation time to a trip to Muskoka. They were far away from California, even further from Texas, but so much closer to Toronto that it felt like home enough for Jin after so much time on American soil.
The lakeside breeze was balmy and humid against his skin. Summer temperatures were projected to rise up to the high twenties, but when the sun rose high in the mid-afternoon sky and its rays beat down through the muggy, wet air, it felt closer to the low or even mid-thirties. By evening it was cooler, but Jin still had his feet in the lake, dangling off of the dock, cool in the water.
Loons called. Crickets chirped. It felt like it was just the two of them on the island, in the middle of the lake, in the middle of the world, alone. All was peaceful.
Jin gazed over at Eddie, sat beside him, features softly lit with the orange and pink hues of the setting sun.
"It's no pacific ocean but it's still beautiful, right?"
