you can hear it in the silence (jamie tartt x reader)
Description: The moment you knew. You are in love.
Based on the song "You are in Love" by Taylor Swift
WARNINGS: swearing, allusions to smut but nothing specific, a bad mix of American and English vernacular (sorry), sickening fluff, established relationship, love confessions

A/N: This can be read as gn! reader but pls let me know if there are any mistakes or gendered references so I can fix them! Also, this is the first time I've made myself cry while writing, but don't worry, they are happy tears. Try and count how many Taylor references I snuck in while writing ;)
He keeps a picture of you in his office downtown.
“You ready to go, love?” Jamie’s voice snapped you out of your stupor. You blinked owlishly, sending one last look at his changing cubby before giving your lover a small smile.
“Yeah, I’m ready, let me just grab my things.”
It had been a pretty good game, Richmond won 2-0, with goals scored by Dani and Jamie. They had been on a winning streak recently, which did wonders for the team’s self-esteem. The boys had spilled into the locker room after the game, a mess of sweat and dirt and shirts being torn off in celebration. You half expected Jamie to join in on their boyish jubilations, but as soon as he was back in the locker room, his eyes searched the room until he found you. There you were, standing next to Roy with your arms crossed and a proud grin on your face, already looking at Jamie. He rushed over to you and picked you up to spin you around twice before pressing his lips to yours in a sweet kiss. He winked to you and claimed that he scored that last goal just for you. You laugh and tell him that you knew he was only thinking about getting another point for the team while scoring, to which he answered: “I’m always thinking about you.”
As you exited the building, hand-in-hand with Jamie, you couldn’t stop thinking about it. Your picture in Jamie’s locker at the club. A spot that used to belong to the famed Keeley Jones. To be fair, Jamie and Keeley were amicable friends by now, they’d broken up so long ago. Still, you couldn’t help but try and compare yourself to her. “Hey, Jamie?”
“Yeah?”
“You’ve got a photo of me taped up in your locker.” You say matter-of-factly, staring at his profile.
He looks at you now, seemingly startled. “What d’ya mean ‘why’? I need to be able to look at your pretty face before every game. It’s my good luck charm.” He claims indignantly, which had you cracking a smile now. “What’s so funny? A man’s not allowed to look at a picture of his partner anymore?”
You wrap an arm around his to lean your head onto his shoulder as the two of you walked out to the car park. “No, never mind, forget I asked.” You couldn’t get that dopey grin off your face.
Small talk, he drives.
Coffee at midnight.
The light reflects
The chain on your neck
He says, “look up”.
Once you got to his car, Jamie opened the door for you with a bow before helping you in. You rolled your eyes but took his helping hand anyways.
The night sky above seemed to be twinkling. It’s late, but you know Jamie will offer to make you a cup of coffee while he makes his tea before bed. He knows just how you like it, with a fair amount of cream and sugar in it. He claims that his nightly tea “soothes him” so that he can fall asleep better, but he’ll never admit that he really just enjoys spending that extra ten minutes of quiet time with you before going to bed. That’s what really soothes him.
The streetlights in the parking lot are a dim yellow hue, but they still catch a glint of the silver chain on Jamie’s neck, the one that you gifted him for his birthday last month. You take a moment to appreciate his handsome face and his lithe body as he moved to get behind the wheel of the car. But before he can get buckled in, he pops his head out the door and exclaims, “Look up! It’s a full moon tonight.” He howls like a werewolf before pulling the car door closed and looking to see if you laugh at his joke. You give him a pity smile out of pure adoration as he laughs at his own joke.
You can feel it on the way home.
The two of you begin the familiar drive from the dogtrack to your shared flat about 15 minutes away. You had been dating just shy of six months now and moved in together only a month prior. Some of your coworkers thought that was moving quite fast in the relationship, given Jamie’s track record with previous girlfriends. But who gives a fuck what your coworkers think?
To be fair, things with Jamie had progressed a bit…quicker than usual for you. You two met through Keeley and immediately hit it off. Jamie asked you out the second time he ever got the chance to speak to you.
The drive is short, but it’s your favorite part of the day. Jamie presses play on the CD that always remains in his car, a mix you made for him after two weeks of dating. Then, he reaches over to grab your hand, lace your fingers together, and press a delicate kiss to your knuckles. “Let’s go home, yeah? Get you in bed?”
You smile for real this time and fake-scoff as if scandalized by his comment. “Jamie Tartt! Take me to dinner before you attempt to sleep with me, I’m not a cheap fuck.”
“C’mon, babe, you know that’s not what I meant. I was just messing around—"
“I know, love, I’m just joking.”
“Oh.”
Jamie finally puts the car in gear and turns out of the parking lot, beginning the journey.
“Although…I could be convinced…” You trail off, one hand running up his arm to his bicep.
Jamie gives a small smile and shakes his head while saying, “Nah, I’d rather just cuddle you until we both pass out from exhaustion. Long day, innit?” His hand lands to rest on your thigh now, giving it a small squeeze. You hum in agreement, soaking in the weight of his words. Men you’d dated in the past would never pass up the chance to get their dick wet, even if you were less than enthusiastic to participate. Jamie was different. Of course, Jamie was an incredible lay, and the sex you two had was the best sex of your life. But it was more than that. What made it great was the connection, the eye contact, the sounds and words muttered into each other’s mouths as you tried to be as close to him as physically possible. And to make it even better, he never made you feel obligated or guilty about anything the two of you did.
You can hear it in the silence.
Neither you nor Jamie speak for the rest of the drive home. Under normal circumstances, you’d be anxious out of your mind, wondering if you’d said or done the wrong thing. But this was Jamie. You’d never felt more comfortable in the silence. His strong hand still on your thigh, not possessively, but more as a reminder of I’m still here. You leaned your head back, letting the soft music from the speakers take you under. The noises of Jamie’s car rumbling on the asphalt and his steady breathing nearly lull you to sleep, but you crack an eye open as you feel the car slow and turn into the driveway.
Wordlessly, the car turns off and Jamie gets out to get his training bag out of the boot. You hoist your bag over your shoulder and Jamie’s opening the door for you before you can even take your seatbelt off. Once out of the car, you can’t help but grab him by the collar of his Richmond jacket and pull him in for a kiss. His hands automatically fall to your waist, training bag forgotten. You can feel him smiling into the kiss and you find yourself hoping that if an asteroid hit the earth right at this instant and destroys everything, you’d happily die and spend the rest of eternity in his arms, kissing him like this. You pull him impossibly closer. His hold on you gets tighter, like he knows exactly what you’re thinking.
Eventually, you break away and he presses a soft kiss to your forehead before shepherding you inside to go to bed.
One night, he wakes
Strange look on his face
Pauses, then says
You’re my best friend
Later that night, you are in bed with Jamie. As predicted, he did make a cup of coffee with cream and sugar for you and a cup of chamomile tea for himself. The two of you sat on the couch and sipped your drinks together with some late night show on in the background before finally going to bed.
You were wearing one of Jamie’s old club shirts from a previous team before the Premiere League. You didn’t feel particularly glamorous or anything, but he made sure to tell you that he thought you looked beautiful in his clothes (or in anything…or in nothing at all, he added).
You were on the brink of drifting off to sleep until you heard Jamie huff and turn over in the bed. You rolled over to face him, tucking your hands under your chin to look at him. His hair is a mess and his shirt is wrinkled, but he has never looked more beautiful than right now, illuminated by the sliver of moonlight peeking in through the curtains. His eyes seem to shine, even in the dark, even now. “Can’t sleep?” You ask.
He takes a deep breath again. “Too many thoughts in me head.”
“About what?”
“You. Always you.” You lightly scoff and attempt to get him to break this intense tone he’s setting. “I’m serious. I don’t want to think about anyone else now that I’ve thought of you. You’ve infected me or something.”
You can’t fight the beaming smile on your face, tracing his cheekbones down to his lips with your eyes. You slightly chuckle at him, but you stop as you realize he has a weird look on his face. “Jamie, what’s wrong?” You ask in a soft voice, almost worried.
He sighs for a third time before opening and closing his mouth like the words are stuck in his throat. “Look, I…listen, you—" he stops himself again, clearly frustrated. “I’m not good.” He spits out finally. “I’m not a good person and I’m not a good boyfriend, much less husband or father, which I know you want some day. You deserve someone so much better, someone who can always be there for you, someone who can give you his full attention, someone who can give you the family you’ve always wanted. I’m afraid I can’t do that for you, or I’m not enough.” He trails off and sees the frightened look on your face before continuing. “Not that I don’t want that with you, because I do! I want it more than anything in the world, more than a league title, more than all the money in the universe. If I got to just be like this with you forever, I’d love that, as long as I’m with you.” His hand reaches out to stroke your hair and tuck it behind your ear. You can’t believe what you’re hearing. “I dunno why you want me, out of all people.” He says softly, a sad look in his shining eyes.
You sit up a bit more in bed, propping yourself up with one elbow and a serious look on your face. “Jamie Tartt, I am in love with you.” You surprise yourself with these words, not expecting them to come out like that. “I have been waiting my whole life for you. I love you. You are more than enough for me.” You scoot closer to him to lay your head on his arm so you can look into his eyes and hope that your words are enough, that he can see at least a fraction of how much he means to you.
Jamie is staring at you like you’ve hung the moon and the stars in the sky. You would if he asked you to. His arm comes down to wrap around your waist as he pulls you into his chest, his face in your neck. “You’re my best friend, d’ya know that?” He whispers into your hair. You simply rub his back and hold him as close as possible. He doesn’t need to say it back. You already know.
here's just a dump of my AU that I cooked up while trying to fall asleep a few nights ago lmao enjoy this got kinda long
-first of all...this is not going to be a happy AU! its WSS they have to die at the end sorry!
-also disclaimer! I know that technically it would make sense ot have the greasers be the sharks and the socs be the jets in terms of racial tension and class system HOWEVER......im making the greasers the jets and the socs sharks because its my AU and i get so choose the canon compliance!
-Paul as Maria
-Darry as Tony
-Dally is Riff
-Ace is Anybodys because I don't think there's ever been a more perfect casting/character parallel as them
-ponyboy, soda, steve, two bit, and johnny are all jets as well
-darry is the de facto leader of the jets, but he's had to take a step back in order to keep himself in line and keep his brothers in his custody (yes the curtis parents are still dead sorry). he also still works at a roofing company!
-Bob as Bernardo
-Cherry as Anita (yes Paul and Cherry are stepsiblings in this AU because i'm so obsessed with that)
-the show starts with the soc!sharks jumping Ponyboy, just like how the outsiders starts. the greaser!jets intervene and they almost rumble before the cops get involved
-bobcop is officer krupke DUH
-meanwhile: Paul has just moved to this side of the city, since his dad married Cherry's mom, and he has been quickly accepted into the soc!sharks gang, becoming fast friends with Bob Sheldon, the leader of the group. Paul and Cherry work at her mom's sewing shop with Cherry's friend, Marcia. Both Cherry and Bob are trying to set Paul up with this other girl, Bev, but Paul is not interested (because he's a fruit basket)
-so instead of the dance its the drive in!!!!
"Paul and Darry’s eyes meet from across the parking lot at the drive in. Darry is in line for concessions with Sodapop, who’s talking his ear off. Paul is casually tossing around a football with his friends when he catches his eye. Darry can’t see, can’t hear, can’t think about anything else except for the boy with the curly black hair and golden smile with a letterman jacket sitting with Bob Sheldon. Time stops moving once the boy locks eyes with Darry. Paul has never seen anyone who looks so rugged, so handsome, so strong and captivating as Darrel Curtis. He starts to put the football down and make his way over to him. And just like that, Paul gets hurried away out of eyesight, lost in the crowd."
-Darry wants to go talk to Paul, find out everything about him but he gets caught up with the gang trying to get him to participate in the upcoming rumble with the soc!Sharks
-Bob and Dally make plans to rumble next saturday night, but Darry has run off to find Paul, enamored
-BALCONY SCENE UGH
-"What's a greaser like you doing around here?"
"Looking for you. I've never seen you before."
"Well, you're seeing me now. We're both gonna get in big trouble if Bob hears you out here."
"I'm not afraid of him."
"You should be."
"Why, is he your babysitter?"
Paul snorts and crosses his arms over the steel railing of the balcony. "Feels like it, he barely lets me out of the house these days." He says wistfully in a joking manner. It's not the truth, but it's not really a lie either. Paul doesn't have a lot of other friends to do things with, so he mostly hangs with Cherry and Bob.
"What's your name?" Darry's voice is soft, a sharp contrast to the dirt on his hands. He's hauled himself up the fire escape, holding onto the railing so that his face is inches away from Paul's.
"Paul."
"Paul." It comes out a whisper, and Paul has never heard his name sound like that before. Like a prayer. "I'm Darrel. Darry." He corrects himself. Darrel sounds too much like his father.
"Darry."
-and then well yes they share a kiss and they're both freaked out and scared and the internalized homophobia is crazy however they cannot stop thinking about each other!!!
-you can't tell me that "grease got a hold" isn't so "cool" coded like cmonnnn broooo
-the soc!sharks and greaser!jets meet to discuss the terms of the rumble, and Bob wants to fight Darry, since he has suspicions about him and Paul. Darry doesn't want to fight at all, so Bob demands he fight Johnny, Dally's second in command
-Paul hears about the rumble from Cherry the next day at the shop, and he's concerned that he'll have to fight Darry and his brothers.
-Paul and Darry swear to each other that they won't fight, that they will try to deescalate things between the gangs with the power of their love
-yeah that doesn't happen
THE RUMBLE
-Bob shows up the night of the rumble, ready to fight. him and johnny start scrapping, and bob pulls out the knife hidden in his pocket and quickly slashes Johnny, incapacitating him. Darry shows up and steps in, trying to get them to stop. Paul is nervous as all hell, but he stays silent with the other sharks.
-Bob is furious, calling Darry names and slurs left and right, but Darry refuses to engage. Dally finally has enough and decks Bob across the face, which signals both gangs to start fighting
-at this point, Darry makes a break for paul while everyone else is distracted and Paul begs Darry to stop this, make them all stop before something bad happens.
-Dally and Bob both have their switchblades out now. Darry tries to intervene, which leads to Bob's knife buried in Dally's stomach
-Darry is horrified, in shock, and seeing red, so he pulls his own blade out and slashes Bob's throat in one quick slash.
-the greasers flee the scene and the bodies of Bob and Dally before the cops can get there and bust them.
-paul is distraught, but understands why Darry did what he did. Sure, Bob was his friend, but he was also kind of an asshole. Cherry, however, is not happy at all. CUE A BOY LIKE THAT/I HAVE A LOVE PAUL CHERRY DUET this makes me so sick in the head to think about ohhh goddddd
-recovering from the rumble and reeling from the loss of their friend, the greasers get into trouble with Bobcop Officer Krupke and it is kind of hilarious because they clown on his ass
-paul finds out that the rest of the sharks are looking for Darry, looking for payback, and that Brill stole one of his father's pistols for hunting.
-Paul finds Darry and warns him. they make plans to jump on a train and escape from this whole situation, and they agree to meet at the DX tonight
-Paul gets caught up being interrogated by the cops, so he begs Cherry to send a message to Darry that he's still coming, he will just be late.
-cherry, grieving and angry, goes to the greasers and intends to deliver the message to Darry, but not without giving him a piece of her mind first! also the greasers do NOT attempt to hurt her or anything because they know they've done enough damage
-however, she is not greeted kindly by the greasers when she arrives at the DX, and after they taunt her dead boyfriend, she tells Darry that Paul is dead, shot by Brill in a fit of rage.
-Distraught, Darry takes off into the streets, hoping to find Brill and beg for him to kill him too.
-on his way, he stops dead in his tracks when he nearly bumps into Paul, his bright yellow sweater bringing him a comfort he thought he had lost forever. Darry hugs him as tight as possible, and vows to never let anyone hurt him again, and says he's sorry for all of this, and-
-the gun goes off. Paul slowly peels himself back from his lover, who now has a red patch of blood blooming through his chest. Brill stands about ten feet behind the couple, pistol raised and smoking.
yeah i'm sorry this got really long and out of hand and yes i changed some of the plot points but i just think that parry are star-crossed lovers and i love angst sorry for being mean <3
this was a requested fic and i am so sick in the head obsessed with this concept!!! i speedwrote this in like three days bc i was so excited about it. also i listened to a lot of kickass oldies rock while writing this, including kashmir by led zepplin so i highly recommend to listen while reading! anyways enjoy :)

summary: Y/N knows one thing. That she will hate Eddie Munson for the rest of her miserable life. Until her best friend Chrissy forces her to accompany her on a drug deal.
-
You started your day off with a healthy helping of Jason’s bullshit. No matter how much you loved Chrissy (and you really did), you couldn’t resist getting into heated…debates with the star basketball player. Today’s topic: abortion.
“I can’t believe you’re in favor of killing babies!” Jason exclaimed as he shoved past some poor freshman in the hallway of Hawkins High. Chrissy snorted under her breath as you rolled your eyes.
“For the last time, you unbelievably thick meathead, I don’t want to kill babies, I just want women to be able to have control over their own bodies!” You countered, waving your hands to get your point across.
Chrissy finally shoved her way in between the two of you, wrapping her arm around her boyfriend’s. “Okay, that’s enough for today. We need to get to practice, and so do you.” She said to Jason, before giving him a sweet kiss on the cheek. You fake-gagged at their affection and folded your arms across your chest, which was emblazoned with the Hawkins logo of your cheer uniform.
Don’t get it twisted, you were not the type of girl to be a typical cheerleader. But after years of gymnastics training and endless begging from Chrissy, you had given in, but only for senior year. You figured it looked good on college applications, on top of all your other straight-A classes. And plus, the outfit was killer.
After cheer practice, Chrissy pulled you to the side of the bleachers. You let out a yelp and nearly dropped your water bottle at her actions. “Jesus, Chris!”
Chrissy has a nervous look in her eyes. “Okay, I’m only telling you this because I have no one else to go to and you’re the only one I would trust with this kind of thing.” She began, eyes shifting around to make sure no one was listening.
“O-kay?” You agreed, suspicious at her behavior. “What’s wrong? You’re not pregnant, are you?”
“God, no!”
“Oh, thank god. I’m not ready to be an aunt.”
Chrissy sighed in exasperation. “Y/N, I’m trying to be serious!” You straightened your spine, to show that you were at attention and listening. “Do you know anybody who could, like…sell me drugs?”
Honestly, that was not at all what your were expecting. Straight as a rod Chrissy Cunningham wanted drugs? “Whoa, what has gotten into you?” You teased with a grin, poking her side. She gave an uncomfortable grimace and batted your hand away. “Am I finally corrupting you?”
Chrissy sighed and responded, “To be honest, I’ve been really stressed lately and I heard that smoking could help with that.” You could almost laugh. The amount of times you nearly begged Chrissy to take a hit and just relax a little when the two of you would sit in your backyard on Friday nights was uncountable. “So, do you know anyone?”
You racked your brain, running through the degenerate crowd at Hawkins. Blowy Bob? No, hence the name, he required a special kind of payment. You could maybe ask you older brother, but he was usually a dick (with a capital D) about sharing his weed. And then, out of the corner of your eye, you saw a pack of freshman and few other guys exiting the school from across the field. Your eyes landed on the eldest of the bunch, and you groaned as you watched him get into his van. “Ugh. I know someone, but you’re not gonna like it.”
-
“Are you absolutely sure you want to go through with this?” You asked your best friend, as you both sat in her car. You were parked by the outskirts of the schoolyard, near the expanse of woods that seemed never-ending. “I’m serious, I have my pepper spray in my pocket right now!”
“Jeez, Y/N, you don’t need that!” Chrissy said with a bright laugh. “Besides, Eddie’s a nice enough guy. I don’t know what you have against him.”
You huffed. “I don’t have anything against him, he’s just probably the worst person I’ve ever met and maybe I’ve fantasized about pepper-spraying him.” Deadpanning, you unbuckled your seatbelt and began to get out of Chrissy’s car.
Seriously, you couldn’t stand Eddie Munson. You thought his intolerable swagger was all a sham to cover up that he was just another loser who’d never see life outside of Hawkins. Besides, he had launched a hostile takeover of your Dungeons and Dragons club three years ago, and you weren’t one to forgive and forget.
You and Chrissy trekked a few hundred feet deeper into the woods, becoming more and more isolated from the safety of the football field. Chrissy came to a halt in front of a seemingly-random picnic table in the middle of a clearing. “Alright, this must be it. He should be here, it’s not like we’re late or anything.” She said, nervously chewing the inside of her cheek. Chrissy was sporting a cream-colored zip-up sweatshirt, assumingly Jason’s, while you had opted for a dark-washed, oversized denim jacket over your uniform.
“Boo!”
Your hand gripped tightly around your pepper spray container as you whipped it out of your pocket, finger on the trigger, centimeters close to releasing it on whoever the attacker was.
You then heard a grating laughter from a brunet mullet and you sighed in both relief and irritation. “Y’know, I don’t think jump-scaring two teenage girls in the woods was one of your best ideas, Munson.” You drawled, finally putting your weapon back in your pocket. Chrissy looked visibly shaken as well, considering she had her own doubts about this deal.
With a snicker, Eddie replied, “My apologies, sugar. I couldn’t help myself. I love seeing you jump.” He winked your way and your eyes instantly went rolling. You and Eddie had a very interesting relationship, if it was to be called one at all. Eddie endlessly got on your nerves by flirting with you, and you returned the favor by hating him with every inch of your soul. “Chrissy Cunningham, head cheerleader, asking little old me to do a drug deal with her? Gotta say, not on my bingo card for this year.” He said before placing his metal lockbox on the picnic table. You swung one leg over the bench, sitting down across from him and next to Chrissy.
“I just want to try it, that’s it. None of the hard stuff.” Chrissy clarified, her confirmation necklace glimmering in the sunlight. You could almost snort at the irony.
“That means none of your laced sativa shit, Munson. I’m serious, if you try to pull anything funny, the only thing the police will be able to use to identify your body will be the bag of hair sitting on your corpse after I skin you.” You said, eyes digging into his brown ones, eyes that just looked back in amusement into your own.
“Oh, Y/N, do you really think so low of me? I’m hurt!” He put a dramatic hand over his chest, which drew your attention to the shirt he was wearing. A brand-new, black and white ringer tee with the Hellfire Club’s logo on it. “Oh, you like? Got the new designs in just this week.” He smirked at the sight of your rage. That was your idea for the club logo and your idea for the club name, Eddie had just gone and called it his own. It made you see red.
“Listen here, the son of a bi-“
“Y/N! Calm down!” Chrissy stopped you from hurtling yourself over the table at him. “Eddie, we’re really just here for a little bit of weed, if you’d be so kind to sell us some.” She batted her eyelashes and gave him her prettiest cheerleader smile. Eddie was a man, so, of course it worked on him.
“You know what, just for you, Chrissy, I’ll give you a half an ounce for $15. Pretty girl discount.” Eddie said with a grin that showed off his canine-esque teeth. You scoffed and crossed your arms. Chrissy kicked your foot under the table as you continued to bore your eyes into Eddie’s.
“That’s very sweet of you, Eddie, thanks.” Chrissy flashed another smile and handed him the money. “I’m sorry for how Y/N is acting, sometimes she forgets that she has to play nice.”
“Oh, I completely understand. If my life was anything like Y/N’s, I’d also be a raging bitch.”
This time you really did lunge across the table at Eddie, but he was too quick for you. He fell backwards off of the bench, rolling through the leaves. You stood up and quickly made your way over to his sitting form. He was picking dead leaves out of his hair as you grabbed him by the collar.
“Alright, Munson. If that’s how you wanna play it, fine. I might be a bitch but at least I’ll go to college.” Your eyes were locked into each other’s as you berated him. “And Chrissy doesn’t need your shitty weed, there are plenty of other dealers in Hawkins.” Eddie let a slow smile creep across his face and you started to blush as you realized how close your faces were. You released his shirt and turned around to face your best friend, who was shocked at how quickly you were to anger. “C’mon, Chrissy, let’s get out of here.” You muttered before walking back to the car without waiting for an answer. You heard Chrissy spew some sort of apology to Eddie, but she quickly ran to catch up with you.
“Hey, Y/N, what the hell was that?” She said to you before unlocking the car. “We didn’t even get the weed!”
“We don’t need him to get weed. Besides, he’s a dickwad.” You grumbled, buckling into Chrissy’s car before she started the engine. “I’d rather shove an icepick down my throat before spending another minute with him.”
-
Ironically enough, you had no idea that you were soon to eat your words. Chrissy had stayed home sick from school the next day, which meant that you had to walk home from cheer practice. And of course, it was raining when you left the gymnasium. Damn Indiana weather.
With a huff, you took shelter underneath an overhang and tried to muster up the strength to walk to 0.7 miles back to your house in the pouring rain. You were about to cut your losses and consider staying at the school until it stopped raining, but a blue van skidded up to the curb where you were standing. With your arms crossed, you strode up to the passenger window, your cheer uniform getting significantly wetter now that you had stepped into the rain.
“You look like a drowned rat.” The gravel of Eddie Munson’s voice rang from the van, over the noise of Black Sabbath blaring from the radio.
“Ever the gentleman, Munson.” You huffed, crossing your arms tighter as you felt his eyes rake over your figure, lingering on your bare legs and your chest. An awkward silent moment fell over the two of you before you both tried to speak at the same time.
“Do you-“
“I wanted to-“
“You go first.”
“Chrissy said I should apologize for what I said yesterday. So, I’m sorry, I guess.” You uncomfortably shifted from foot to foot as you looked anywhere but at his face. The cupholder, the trash on the floor, the casettes on the console. “You were only trying to do something nice for her, and I shouldn’t have said what I said.”
“Wow,” Eddie mused. You could feel yourself becoming less and less sorry as he continued. “I never thought I’d hear that from you.”
“Don’t get used to it.”
“I’m sorry too. You’re not a bitch, at least most of the time. And I’m sorry about the whole Hellfire stuff too.” Your eyes darted up at the mention of your lost club and your mouth went dry, almost speechless. “If you want, we’re starting a new campaign next Friday if you want to come watch…or something, you totally don’t have to, I know you hate me.” Eddie rambled on, but you were shellshocked. Never in your life did you think you would get an apology from Eddie Munson for what he did three years ago, and an invitation on top of that? It's like the world was ending.
“Uh, thanks. I might take you up on that.” The smallest of smiles broke on your face, suddenly feeling very shy. You had no idea how to be nice to Eddie, all you’ve ever known were cheap insults and name-calling. You brushed some now-soaked hair out of your face and said, “Um, what did you want to say to me?” You almost stuttered over your words. When just a few moments ago you were unable to look him in the face, you were now addicted to examining his features. His eyes were so round and brown and deep, eyelashes soft and fluttering every time he blinked. He had the miniscule showings of facial hair on his upper lip, but was mostly clean shaven. Your eyes dragged over his sharp jaw, his chin, his lips.
“Oh, I was gonna ask if you wanted a ride.” Eddie broke you out of your trance. You almost scoffed at the offer. “Since it’s raining and all…” He trailed off, clearly not knowing how to navigate the conversation without your usual banter.
You looked around you, pretending to be looking for any other car in the empty parking lot before sighing. “Yeah, alright. Beats getting hypothermia.” You swung the door open and climbed in.
Eddie’s van smelled and looked exactly what you thought it would look like. Stale beer, faint weed, and hints of something woodsy tickled your nose. You tried to forget that you were seated in the car of Eddie Munson, your sworn enemy since freshman year. You adjusted your skirt as Eddie put it into drive and peeled out of the school parking lot.
“So, uh, when’d you decide to sell your soul to the dark side?” Eddie asked, looking out at the road, eyes avoiding you and your bare legs, that were sitting in his car, in his passenger seat.
“What do you mean?”
“You know, the whole uniforms and pep rallies and shit. Doesn’t really seem like you.”
“What, and you know so much about me, Munson?” You snorted back, eyebrows furrowed at his statement.
“Well, I used to.” His eyes met yours finally before you bit your lip and looked away guiltily.
“Yeah, back in middle school. Before you stole my party. Before you were an asshole.” Your arms were crossed again and you were wishing you were anywhere but here. Yes, you and Eddie had been somewhat of friends in middle school. In fact, you were the one who introduced him to Dungeons and Dragons. He was the first ever crush you had, which made you cringe, thinking back on it. Your eleven-year-old self was so obsessed with Eddie that sometimes you thought it was good that he betrayed you. Otherwise, you could have turned out to be a far more annoying person.
Eddie took a long pause this time, and you almost squirmed at his silence. When he finally spoke, he said, “Do you really think I’m an asshole?” His tone caught you off-guard, so genuine and soft, almost nervous.
Your face morphed into a sour one as you looked down at your lap. Yeah, you were harsh on Eddie in the past. You’ve said some not-so-nice things about him, and he deserved it. But did you actually think he was a bad person? “No,” you almost whispered, “I don’t.”
Caught in the moment, you didn’t even realize that he was pulling into your driveway. You hadn’t even given him any directions to your house. “You still live here, right?” He said after parking and clearing his throat awkwardly. “I vaguely remember some birthday party here.”
You actually smiled at the memory. Your twelfth birthday party had been one of the best. You had invited your whole friend group, including Eddie, over to play a special side quest of D&D and to camp out in your backyard. You still remember the excitement you felt when you had unwrapped Eddie’s gift to you, a mixtape of all his favorite songs. Somewhere, buried under all of your other tapes and records, you knew you could still find that mixtape with a little digging.
“Thanks for the ride, Munson.” You shot him a smile, which he returned, and you slipped out of the car before you could get frozen looking at his eyes again.
-
This was, no question, one of your worst ideas, maybe ever. Seriously, if Chrissy were here, you’d be getting a full-blown lecture. It was 11:30pm on a school night, and here you were, standing outside of Eddie Munson’s trailer door, fist raised to knock.
How did you get here? One moment, you were tossing and turning in your bed at home, wrought with thoughts of Eddie and his eyes, the way he looked at you. You were overcome with memories from your old friendship, and some nostalgic part of you missed the companionship. Hell, Eddie had even invited you to play with the club, so he must miss you too! Before you could convince yourself otherwise, you jumped on your bike and furiously pedaled over to the trailer park. You had barely noticed that you were in a thin crewneck and pajama shorts, clearly not prepped for a late-night visit to your ex-best-friend-turned-enemy. You were going to make things right with Eddie, once and for all.
Breathing out shakily, you raptly knocked on the door three times. No going back now, you thought. When Eddie opened the door, you could almost feel your heart begin pounding out of your chest.
He was a sight for sore eyes. His hair a mess on top of his head, he was wearing a grey shirt with the sleeves cut off, showing off his tattooed arms. You wasted no time in ogling his arms freely, before his voice brought you out of it.
“Y/N? What are you doing here?” He looked confused and a little bit sleepy. A small twinge of guilt ran through you as you just now considered that maybe Eddie was trying to sleep at this time of night.
“I need to talk to you.” You pressed your lips into a thin line as he moved aside to let you in.
You had never actually been inside Eddie’s trailer; the two of you would only ever hang out by the picnic tables outside the trailer. You assumed it was because Eddie was embarrassed of his living situation, considering you were fairly wealthy compared to him and his uncle.
He closed the door behind you. He rubbed his eyes, and once again, you felt bad for waking him up. “Do you want anything to drink? Water, beer, uhh…” he trailed off to go look in the fridge, “Orange juice?”
You gave him a shy smile and replied, “Tempting, but no thanks.” You took a moment to take in the sight of his trailer. It essentially looked like just Eddie lived here, as evidence of his personality covered the walls, the floor, and every surface. Sheet music with scribbled lyrics sat on the coffee table next to an empty beer bottle. “Do you still play?” You asked, motioning your head to the sheet music.
Eddie, for a split second, almost looked like he was blushing as he answered, “Yeah, actually. Me and some buddies have a band that plays at The Hideout sometimes.” He gave a tiny grin as he went over to neaten up the music.
“Really? That’s…kind of awesome.”
“Why are you being so nice to me? What are you doing here?” Eddie finally said, straightening up to his full height to be a respectable few inches taller than you. You gulped as you looked back at him.
“I want to try again. To be friends.” You searched his eyes for any sort of reaction, and when you saw none, you kept trying. “As much as I despise you and how much you push my buttons, I kind of miss having you around.” With a shrug, you were pouring your heart out to this guy that you had sworn to hate for the rest of your life.
To your surprise, Eddie laughed. Not cruelly, but a genuine chuckle. “I knew it, Y/L/N. I knew you couldn’t stay away from me for long. Although, I don’t blame you for taking a little hiatus from me for some of those awkward years. They were quite rough for a pubescent Eddie Munson.” He spoke, a glimmer in his eye as he led you to sit down on the sagging couch.
“Oh really?” You giggled. “Please, enlighten me. What did I miss?” You crossed one leg over the other, sitting a normal distance away from Eddie on the couch. Not at all thinking about how you wanted to be sitting closer to him. Eddie shifted, and you would never admit it out loud, but you couldn’t help but stare at his jean-clad thighs when he clenched them to get comfortable.
“Honestly, just take eighth grade Eddie and make him ten times hornier and angrier.” He said, and you laughed.
“Wow,” you nodded in amusement. “I remember eighth grade Eddie being already pretty horny and angry. Can only imagine what it could’ve been like.” You said in a teasing tone.
Eddie sighed with a smile and ran hand over the top of his head. “Yeah, you’re right.” He took a quick glance over to you and took a chance. “Not to be weird, but you gave me my first boner.”
You turned to him in appalled shock and a scoff that sounded more like an uncontrollable laugh. “No fucking way! Please tell me you’re kidding.”
“Nope. I remember it perfectly well. We were at the community pool and I had never seen a girl in a bikini before. And you were just starting to grow tits too.”
You slapped him on the arm and couldn’t help but exclaim in response, “Oh my god, you perv! I was like, 13!” Eddie shrugged and gave a sly grin before he kicked his feet up on the table and rested his hands behind his head. You decided to be candid, considering the situation. “Well, you were definitely my first real crush, so I guess we’re kind of even.”
“Seriously?” Eddie looked a little too focused when he asked this.
You flushed red and shrugged. “Yeah, I mean, you were cute and you were nice to me. What else was I supposed to do?” With a dying laugh, you realized that he was staring at his feet, caught in a trance. “Sorry, that was probably a weird thing to say.” You started to backtrack and turn away from him.
He leapt forward to grab your hand, his cold rings stinging your warming skin. His eyes flickered between your two eyes and your lips before he took a large breath before saying, “Do you want to fuck?”
And that was how you ended up in Eddie Munson’s bedroom, on his stained mattress, on his pillow that smelled dank. That’s how you ended up in his lap, desperately grinding against him on his lap. That’s how you ended up with your hands tangled in his long hair, pulling and tugging with every kiss he left on your collarbone. The soft groans he let out as you tugged his hair went immediately to your core, which was already probably dripping in anticipation.
“Fuck, Eddie.” You said softly, even though it came out as more of a breathless moan as he pulled off of your neck and his hands moved to the hem of your shirt. He quickly glanced to you for permission, and you nodded eagerly before you pulled his lips back onto yours. His lips felt like melted chocolate and the most addicting substance you’ve ever had. With your shirt discarded and your lack of bra becoming obvious, Eddie was like a moth to a flame with your boobs. His hands were suddenly everywhere, all at once. One of them on your breast, the other squeezing the back of your thigh.
His brown eyes bored into your own while he slowly lowered his head down to suck on your nipple. As his lips made contact, your head lolled back and a sharp gasp left your mouth. He nibbled and licked and squeezed and it was driving you crazy. You then put both hands on the sides of his face, tilting it up and meeting eyes again. “You’re wearing too much.”
With a quick grin, Eddie’s shirt was off and forgotten about as you lightly shoved his torse to lay back on the bed. You clambered over him to straddle his hips before going to work on leaving your own marks on his neck. You took your time tracing every tattoo on his chest with your tongue, leaving red patches on his alabaster skin in your wake. You began to kiss down to his belt, swallowing when you ran a hand over his happy trail. “May I?”
He nodded. You made quick work of his belt and jeans before you could palm his length under his boxers. He was hard, almost painfully so, and definitely bigger than you expected. When you pulled his boxers down his thighs, you couldn’t help your eyes widening slightly. Jesus, you were practically drooling over the thought of his cock in your mouth. You began putting small kisses on the tip, smearing the precum on your lips. Eddie let out a loud moan, and you had to stifle a giggle. “Wow, Munson. Didn’t peg you for a screamer.”
“Ugh-fuck you, Y/L/N. We’ll see how well you can-“ He was cut off by a guttural groan erupting from his throat while you took his whole length into your mouth. You ran your tongue over the thick vein on the underside of his dick, and held it in as deep as a you could until your eyes started watering. You pulled off, replacing your mouth with your hand, pumping him at a steady pace while you caught your breath. “Shit, princess. Don’t wanna-I won’t last if you keep that up.” Eddie placed a hand underneath your chin to make you stand up. “You look great sucking my cock, but I think it’d look better inside of you.”
You clenched around nothing at his words and nearly let out a moan as he flipped your positions. You were now on your back, tits bouncing as he settled himself above you. His fingers found his way to the waistband of your skimpy shorts and he slipped a hand into them. You grasped his shoulder with one hand as pressed his lips to yours again, his tongue slipping its way into your mouth as you moaned. His middle and index fingers pressed against your wet panties, where you needed him most. “Oh, you’re soaked, princess.” He rapidly shimmied your shorts and panties off before lowering himself to take a good look at your pussy.
Feeling self-conscious, you tried to cover your exposed center by closing your legs, but Eddie would not have that. “Nuh-uh, need to see that pretty pussy, sweetheart.” The nicknames he was uttering made her heart flutter. You let him pry your legs open with his large hands, allowing him a full view of your dripping cunt. He dragged a ringed finger through your slit, spreading your wetness up to your clit and prodded a finger at your entrance. This time, you couldn’t hold back your whimpers as he worked you over his fingers.
When Eddie began making small circles around your clit, you felt the hot coil in your stomach tighten, and even further when he pushed a finger into your wet entrance. “So wet, all for me.” Eddie mused, glancing up at you. You nodded, eyebrows pinched together in desperation. “What’s that? Wanna hear you say it, princess.”
“Yes!” You said with a gasp. “Just for you, Eddie. Fuck, please!” Your voice pitched up and you nearly saw stars when you felt his velvet tongue swipe across your clit. “Just like that, Eds. Feels so good.” You mumbled, your hands once again pulling on his hair. You were beginning to think that Eddie was getting off on your desperation, as his hips rutted into the mattress as he continued to lap at your pussy. His eyes stayed glued to your face, a devilish grin on his lips as he rose up for air. Breathing hard, you sat up on your elbows and brushed a thumb over his chin, which was glistening with your juices. You couldn’t help but pull him in for another kiss just to get a taste of yourself on his tongue. “Will you fuck me already?” You said after pulling away with a teasing grin.
Eddie scoffed before giving your thigh a squeeze. “As you wish, m’lady.” He rummaged around in his bedside drawer for a condom. You busied yourself with pressing kisses to the back of his shoulder while he looked. Once he found one, he quickly tore the foil off and rolled it onto his cock, giving it a few pumps. His chest was heaving as he leaned over you, one arm holding himself up and the other lining himself up at your entrance. “You good?”
“Yes, Eddie, please, just fuck me.” You whined as he let out a dark chuckle before nudging your clit with the head of his dick. But as soon as he began pushing into you, you gasped at the sudden tightness of him inside of you. He was barely halfway in and you were trying to ignore the semi-painful burn in your thighs.
“Shit, you’re so tight.” Eddie exhaled, pausing to give you time to adjust to his size. Then, in a fell swoop, he thrusted all the way into you, hitting deeper than anything you’ve ever felt. The both of you let out simultaneous groans and moans as the feeling of euphoria washed over you. The pain of Eddie’s cock stretching you out and filling you out was delicious, and you already knew this wasn’t going to be a one-time thing. “Oh, you’re going to be the death of me, sweetheart.” Eddie pulled out all the way, just to slam his hips into you again, nearly knocking the wind out of you. “So fucking tight. So wet.”
Just hearing Eddie’s filthy words was enough to get you going, but once he started thrusting at a slow, yet powerful pace, you knew you wouldn’t last long. Your nails scraped down his back as you held onto him for dear life. You knew you’d have dirty dreams about this for months to come. His dick dragged in and out of you, hitting all the right spots and making you feel all the right things. Eddie’s breathless grunts as he fucked into you let you know that he wasn’t going to last long either.
You began thrusting your hips up to meet with his, your head thrown back in pleasure and his mouth close to your ear. Only the sound of heavy breaths and skin slapping filled the room, and it was lewd. “Shit, Eddie,” you hissed out in between groans, “I’m c-close.” Eddie took this as a signal to start drawing circles on your clit again, which drew another loud, low moan from deep in your throat. “Fuck, Eddie, your dick feels so good.” You squeezed your eyes shut in pleasure as you began hurtling towards your orgasm.
“Eyes on me, princess.” Eddie’s hand came up to grab your jaw to force you to look at him. “Wanna see you cum on my cock.” His words and his powerful thrusts sent you over the edge, pussy walls twitching and contracting around his cock as you came harder than you ever had. You tried to hold the eye contact as you came, but the blissful pleasure was so mind-numbing that you could barely form a coherent thought. Your moans just fell from your mouth as you came undone under Eddie’s cock.
As you were coming down from your high, you could tell that Eddie was not far behind you. His thrusts became sloppy and jilted, as his breath quickened. He buried his dick deep inside you and released into the condom with a gravelly groan, dropping his forehead onto your own.
You heaved into each other’s mouths, exhaustion and contentment taking over your bodies. Eddie raised a hand and caressed your cheek with it, pressing a sweet kiss to your forehead before pulling out of you. Your thighs protested angrily, feeling empty without him filling you up. You reached over the side of the bed, pulling on Eddie’s grey shirt he was wearing earlier as Eddie tossed the condom away and pulled on his boxers. He flopped back down onto his bed next to you, wrapping an arm around you. It felt weirdly intimate, but also weirdly instinctual to put your head on him chest and a leg draped across his as the two of you caught your breath.
“Well, that was…something.” Eddie said, breaking the silence. You didn’t know quite how to respond. Until you let out a light laugh, which turned into a full-out giggle, which led to Eddie snorting as well. You ran a finger over the tattoo on his collarbone as your cheek pressed against his bare chest.
“Did you, I don’t know…did you like it?” You asked shyly, too embarrassed to look at him for his response.
“Are you kidding? That was probably the best sex I’ve ever had. Thirteen-year-old me was right when he popped a boner over those tits.” Eddie joked. You let out a noise of indignation when he laughed softly. “No, but seriously, I enjoyed it thoroughly. Did you?”
You let a soft smile grow on your face as you sat up to look at him. “Yeah, I did. I might have to reevaluate my lifelong vendetta against you now that I know you can fuck good.” Eddie rolled his eyes as you beamed at him. There was something softer, much more gentle, about Eddie post-sex. He seemed to glow, his skin felt softer, his eyes more…loving? It made you confused but intoxicated by his aura. Everything felt easy around him, just like it used to and you didn’t feel like you had to put up this prickly exterior around him.
“So, anyways, about the whole being friends again thing…”He began, picking at a spot on his headboard. “I’m not too sure about that.” You felt your heart drop as your smile left your face. You began to panic and feel embarrassment rise in you, but Eddie put a stop to that as he corrected himself. “Because I’m not sure I could handle just being your friend, I need to be more than that.”
You let out a sigh of relief as you rested your head back on his chest, content and relaxed in the arms of your best friend and the first boy you ever loved. "Yeah, I can work with that.”
Okay so I’m thinking the reader and Steve have been together for a while, he always says he wants to marry her, and she always says back that’ll she always say yes, ya know very cute stuff.
Until she’s trapped in the upside down, with Billy maybe? (I know the plot isn’t this but it gets better) trying to find a way out saying how she and Steve were meant to get married and have a life and she couldn’t be stuck in this world, meanwhile Steve thinks she’s dead after the “mall fire” he just couldn’t move on from her.
Until move onto season 4 and the group are in the upside down, somehow Billy and her survived until then? Maybe? And they reunite and it’s just cute af thanks <3 love the work!
ooh this concept is chefs kiss. i hope you're okay with me leaving out the whole billy-in-the-upside-down-and-then-lives bit, i couldn't find a way to fit it into the plot if you know what i mean? but i had a lot of fun writing this and did i cry? maybe!

285 days. That was how long it had been since Steve had seen you. That's how long it's been since he last felt anything. His life was taken over by a dull greyness that painted over any sort of joy he ever had. Without you, he felt like he was sleepwalking for weeks at a time, just going through the motions at the Family Video store with Robin.
Robin tried her best to get Steve out and about so that he wasn't in his house all day. She knew that if she let him, he'd elect to rot away in his bed forever. So, she and Dustin made sure to take turns delivering snacks to his door. Sometimes, he wouldn't answer his phone, or he wouldn't bother to open the door since he knew it wasn't going to be you, so why bother?
Apart from his real life being a constant nightmare, he was haunted by them in his sleep as well. Over and over again, your limp, lifeless body would be dragged in by the Mind Flayer and ripped apart. Over and over, Steve had to watch you die and he could do nothing about it. Over and over, you would always look at him before disappearing into a dark nothingness with fear in your eyes. Most of his friends would agree that Steve had changed since your death. He was less sarcastic, quieter, and definitely more cautious.
So when Steve began protesting the gang's idea to go held alleged murderer Eddie Munson, they weren't at all surprised when he started disagreeing.
-
"God, Steve, you are so ridiculous." You laughed, leaning against your locker. "You have separation problems for sure."
Steve just smiled, taking this as an opportunity to just get a look at you and commit your face to memory. Your shining eyes, the way your nose curved, and how you couldn't help but grin whenever you saw him. Lovestruck and dumb, Steve responded, "I can't help it, I missed you too much."
"You saw me last period, Steve."
"And that was too long ago!" He protested, shuffling closer to you so that he could lean his head face-down on your shoulder and wrap an arm around your waist. "Surprised you're not sick of me yet." He mumbled, letting his eyes close for a second, just a moment's reprieve.
You lifted a hand to run it through his soft hair, capturing the strands between your fingers and letting him heal you with his touch. "I'd never get sick of you, Harrington. I'm not going anywhere." You said, almost a whisper. It felt strange to be performing such declarations of devotion and love in the school hallway, but after everything that had happened this year with Will, it felt necessary.
"Really?" Steve questioned before pulling away to look at you again. "So, if I asked you to spend the rest of your life with me right now, what would you say?" He had a mischievous look on his face, but you could tell that deep down, he was nervous. It's scary, baring your soul like that. It's scary to love someone that much, so much that you would do absolutely anything, go to any length to be with them.
With a sweet kiss to his lips, you simply said, "I'd say yes. No matter how many times you ask me, I will always say yes."
-
Every inch of your body hurt. For 285 days, your limbs and muscles screamed at you to give up, to rest, to surrender. Even your surroundings wanted you to give up. Every gnarled root and suspicious puddle threatened you, taunted you, told you to let it go.
You wondered what Steve was doing right now. Maybe he was hanging out with Dustin and the gang, or maybe having dinner with his parents. If you closed your eyes and tried hard enough, you could still picture what Steve's bedroom looked like. You could picture Steve lying in his bed, arm stretched out to you and begging you to come cuddle for just five more minutes.
With a sigh, you hauled yourself up from your seated position in the Upside-Down-version of your house. Vines crawled all the way around your kitchen cabinets and across the once-tiled floor. You pulled on your balaclava and goggles to protect you from the toxic atmosphere. Since you got stuck here, you started to get good at navigating this terrifying place. You knew what times to venture out and search for food. You knew when the demodogs and demogorgons were out on the prowl for prey. You even knew where a semi-portal was. It wasn't functional, but every day, you visited it and hacked at the stringy seams with an axe you found in your shed, sadly to no avail.
You dragged yourself to the spot where you spent most of your time wasting away. It was a barren long stretch of creepy vines and creatures and bad energy, but about half a mile from where you turned left on your street, there was a rift in the ground. A dark black line, cracking ever-so-slightly, only about two feet long. With a sigh, you turned around to leave, feeling defeated and alone and hopeless. You desperately missed the comfort of your actual home and your friends, but mostly Steve.
As you walked along the path you had trenched out, you started to hear rustling noises of wings behind you, which was strange, because the bats never came out at this time of day. You tugged your chunky goggles off of your face for a moment, just to see a dim red light start to emanate from the crack in the ground. With widening eyes, you began slowly jogging towards the light. The ground began to rumble as you lost your balance, tripping over a large vine and planting face-first into the grimy earth of the Upside Down. With a groan, you hadn't noticed the light from the crack getting brighter, and the crack splitting open more and more.
Screeches of demobats filled the normally-silent air as you assessed the scrape on your knee from your fall. The thing that brought you out of your stupor was a shout. A yell from a man's voice, not something supernatural or blood-thirsty. A shout of fear.
You leapt up, swinging your axe into your dominant hand before running to help the man currently getting ambushed by the bats. The man was shirtless blood and small gashed already covering his torso, and you could barely see his face over the sea of creatures surrounding the two of you. As you began taking down the bats one by one, the man began whacking at them with whatever he had in his hand, which seemed like a flashlight. He grabbed one off of his shoulder, bit its head off, and threw it to the ground. Another one, he pulled into pieces using his foot to tear it apart.
Once the bats were all dead or gone, you finally took a good look at the man who burst through the portal (which was glowing bright red now, with a very prominent hole in it). The man, slowly turned to face you, spitting a mouthful of bat blood out of his mouth, the dark liquid dripping from his chin. His torso was covered in cuts and large chunks of flesh taken out. His hair was unkempt on his head, flying every which direction, and his chest was heaving in attempt to recover from his near-death encounter. You felt your heart sitting at the back of your throat as your stomach turned.
"Steve?"
If you had cared in the moment, you might've been embarrassed that your voice cracked, or that you looked like shit. But you simply pulled your goggles and balaclava off of your head to let him see your face, tears springing out of the corners of your eyes uncontrollably. "Steve, is it really you?" You asked again in disbelief.
"No fucking way. Holy shit." Steve rushed to place his hands on your shoulders. "Please don't say this place is trying to mess with me. Don't say I'm seeing thing, holy shit, Y/N, are you real?" His hands moved to your face, his eyes looking absolutely full of emotion. Love, relief, fear, heartbreak, worry, and everything else that Steve thought he could ever feel. "Is-is it you? This isn't some illusion?"
You couldn't help but giggle blearily, sniffling and nodding vigorously. "Yes, yes, it's me. I'm here. I'm real, Stevie." With what could be a sob or a gasp, Steve pulled your body into his in the most bone-crushing, soul-warming, love-filled hug you've ever received. You tried to hug him back with the same vigor, inhaling his sweet scent after months and weeks without any piece of him.
"I thought I was never going to see you again. I thought you were dead, we all did." He babbled into your hair as his arms stayed wrapped around you. Neither one of you wanted to let go, never again. "God, I love you so much, I can't believe it's really you." He finally lifted his head off of your shoulder to study your face.
"I love you more than anything, Steve." You spoke, still overcome with emotion and hope, something you haven't felt in a long time.
Steve had barely blinked because every time he closed his eyes, even for a split second, it was like you were gone again. He never wanted to stop looking at you, to stop touching you, to stop kissing you, to stop loving you for the rest of his life.
"We're going to get out of here, I promise. And then I want to marry you, Y/N Y/L/N, if it's the last thing I do." Both of you couldn't help but laugh softly, hands running across familiar skin for the first time in a long time.
You pressed a long, slow kiss to Steve's lips, letting yourself lose yourself in his presence and his aura. "I'd love nothing more than to marry you, Steve Harrington."
And for a few moments, between all the carnage and terror of the Upside Down, a promise was made between two lovers that would inevitably come true, no matter what dimension they were in.
I’m obsessed with the idea of a beach day with Eddie and the reader (although they live in landlocked Indiana ;-;) and it would be totally groovy if you wrote something like how they went on a trip to a beach on like a date!!

"You're kidding, right?" You gaped at your boyfriend of six months as he grinned at you maniacally. "You want to go to Virginia Beach...five days before your graduation?"
Eddie let out a complaining groan before collapsing onto your legs. The two of you were camped out in your bed, watching the credits roll on your beloved DVD of The Breakfast Club. Eddie wrapped both arms around your knees as your laughed and played with the hair on the back of his head. "Don't remind me. I still have to finish that project for Chemistry." He grumbled.
"I don't know, Eds, you should probably be focusing on finishing the school year strong." You nudged his shoulder playfully. "'86 is your year, right, baby?"
Eddie stayed silent, not letting up his kicked-puppy act.
You sighed, a smile fighting its way onto your face. "Well, maybe if you finish the project before we leave, then I could be convinced pretty easily to take a cross-country road trip with you."
Eddie snorted and said, "Come on, it's barely cross-country, it's only a 12 hour drive!"
"12 hours? You better get going on that project before I change my mind."
-
On hour eight, you were fast asleep in the passenger's seat of Eddie's van, which was fighting for its life after having driven upwards of 200 miles in a day. The two of you had spent the day listening to hours upon hours of music, from Eddie's hard metal to your relaxed indie taste. You had also played "fuck, marry, kill" with at least every person you went to high school with. After your stomach hurt from laughing and from the excess amount of snack you both ate, you desperately tried to fight sleep, wanting to stay awake and talk to Eddie. But Eddie insisted that you get your rest, and, in his words, "get your beauty sleep for the great adventures that lie ahead for your majesty and the court jester".
As you slept, Eddie was deep in thought. He knew that you had only been dating for six months, which was basically nothing in terms of life plans. However, he couldn't help but picture a future with you. A couple of rowdy kids playing outside, a nice beach house, with a view right out your shared bedroom window. Eddie wanted all of it, all of you. If he ever got out of high school and out of Hawkins, the first thing he'd do was take you somewhere nice, like the Bahamas or something. Eddie never really took the time to think about his future after graduation (he barely even thought about graduating for the past few years), but when he did think about it, he couldn't picture one without you in it.
"How close are we?" Your sleep-logged voice shook Eddie from his thoughts as you rubbed your eyes and straightened your spine.
"So damn close, I can practically smell the sand." You rolled your eyes and rested your arm on the center console, which he took as a sign to grab your hand and press a kiss to your knuckles.
"Really? What does sand smell like, Edward? Pray, tell."

"Holy fuck, it's hot here. I'm dying." Eddie complained for about the fifth time that day, and it was only 10:00 in the morning. The two of you had rented a small, but nice, condo on the shore for the weekend that was within walking distance of the beach. Unfortunately, Eddie had never been anywhere warmer than Hawkins, Indiana. Thus, the whining ensued.
You chuckled before squirting more sunscreen into the palm of your hand, spreading the white cream across his back. Eddie was almost disastrously pale, and you knew that he'd get horribly burned if it wasn't for you. "Nut up, Munson. You're the one that wanted a romantic beach getaway." After thoroughly applying the sunscreen to his person, he was practically itching to get in the water.
The sand under your toes was borderline burning the soles of your feet, but you were so content that you barely paid it any mind. You had set up a small beach umbrella that Eddie had unearthed from his uncle's shed, claiming that the hole in it was small enough to be still usable. You had also set down two fold-out chairs, donned with beer cans sweating in the cup holders, waiting to be drank.
You started heading towards your chair, so that you could sit in the shade before getting into the cold water, but Eddie had other plans. "Oh no, you're coming with me." He reached out for your hand to pull you out of the chair and into his chest, which was sticky with sweat already. "We are going to make-out in the ocean if it's the last goddamn thing I do." He began pulling you towards the shore, the sand getting wetter and colder on your feet.
Tossing your sunglasses onto your towel, you began groaning as Eddie tugged you. "Nooo, it looks freezing, Eds!" You protested, to no avail. Soon enough, he had pulled you in up to your calves. The water was, to your surprise, not actually that cold. Eddie flopped down into the shallow water with a large splash, nearly injuring himself in the process, you assumed. He emerged from the water, shaking his hair like a wet dog. You dipped a hand into the water and ran it down your arms to cool off. With a soft giggle, you realized that Eddie couldn't stop staring at you. He waded over to stand in front of you, his hands creeping up to hold onto your hips. "What's gotten into you, huh? You ever been outside before?" You teased, winding your arms around his neck and gazing up into his eyes, ignoring the sting from the sun.
Eddie couldn't wipe this stupid smile off of his face. The way his dimples crinkled made it infectious not to lean up and kiss him lightly. Your lips molded to his the way they always did, a perfect fit. His tongue darted out to slip into your mouth, before disappearing as fast as it came. "I am so stupidly in love with you." Eddie confessed, not shaking that stupid grin still.
"And I am ridiculously in love with you, Munson." You mused in response, feeling infected by his radiant mood.
"If you love me so much, will you come swimming with me?" Eddie requested, eyebrows raising and tone becoming jokingly serious.
"Hell no."
Before you could even get in another word, Eddie was dragging you in with him, the water enveloping your body and washing over your swimsuit. You gave in a bit, paddling around with Eddie for a bit, before you both agreed to take a break from swimming.
Eddie's feet and legs were covered in sand as he flopped down on his towel. "You better reapply sunscreen, babe, you'll burn to a crisp if you stay in the sun too long." You chastised before sliding on your sunglasses and adjusting on your own towel to lay on your stomach.
"Yeah, yeah. I'll be fine. I'm invincible, didn't you know?" He said, already falling under the heat spell of the hazy air on the beach. You felt yourself growing more and more relaxed as time slowly drifted by. You felt free from all responsibility, no school or family to worry about. Just you and Eddie and the water and the sand. "Sweetheart, toss me one of those beers, please?" You grabbed the two waiting for you and handed one to Eddie before cracking one open for yourself. Before taking the first sip, Eddie held his can out to you for a toast.
"To Virginia Beach. And to graduating, finally. And to Y/N's sexy ass bathing suit." He mused pseudo-philosophically before you cracked into a laugh. Both of you took large swigs of the beverage before settling down to soak up the sun.
"You're so pretty, Eddie." You whispered, your faces close as you both laid on your stomachs on your towels next to each other. "S'like you were made for me."
Eddie leaned over to press a kiss to your head, and then your shoulder, and then your arm before responding, "Wouldn't wanna be anywhere else with anyone else, baby."
