More often than not, when I travel through KLIA, I end up spending more time than usual at the check-in counter. Questions about where I’m going and why I’m going there. Someone calling someone else to confirm if the visa I have allows me to go where I’m going to. Someone else coming over with a tiny magnifying glass to bend and twist my passport; to look at the data and visa pages under “a microscope”.

If I’m going to get myself a fake passport, I think to myself whenever that happens, why get a Nigerian passport?

Today, I had the guy who was called over take pictures of several pages of my passport and send it to someone else, via Whatsapp. Now, I don’t know what someone with bad intentions would be able to do with my passport data page and visa page, but whatever the case, Whatsapp seems to me to be the wrong way to go about sending that info.

Anyway, it gets easier with every passing year. I’m now able to take it less personally. I mean, even when I couldn’t, on some level, I always knew it wasn’t really personal.
