[Diana walks into the room and sits at the table in front of Andrew,Sucy and Amanda]
Diana- Thank you all for coming today, I’ve come to discuss a very important matter with you today
Andrew- And that would be
Diana - Akko
Andrew- [sighs] Of course
Diana - Atsuko Kagari is an outstanding young witch, and quite frankly deserves better than to be subjected to such terrible influences
Amanda- Excuse you princess, I’m one of her closest friends
Diana - Amanda, you help enable her worst impulses and get her into trouble [turns to Sucy] Sucy, Im not sure if you’re her friend or participating in an elaborate caper to murder her
Sucy - Why can’t it be both
Diana - And Andrew....dear.sweet Andrew
Andrew- Oh boy, t his is going to be good
Diana- She’s gay “dude”, stop it
[Amanda stands up and slams her hands on the table]
Sucy - Dramatic much ?

[Sucy stands up and starts walking to the door]

[Diana and Amanda gasp with outrage and chase after Sucy to stop her]

quick ask what does it mean the final part of bakemono monster girl?
Basically, it’s just a very painful confirmation about the girl who was trying to expose the class’ bigotry to Antou fully understanding what was actually happening the whole time.
The entire story, Antou’s classmates dehumanize her existence by using her as misery porn: they prop her up only so they can feel good about ourselves. “Oh, look at us, being so kind to the monster girl! We’re suuuuch good people and wonderful people for loving Antou! Because nobody else would!”
They tolerate Antou’s monstrosity as long as it’s convenient to them. Because it’s tolerable to them as “normal” people. But when her physical “deformity” becomes too severe for them, they immediately retract their support and love.
Basically, Antou’s no longer useful to the class as misery porn, so she’s not worth anything to them anymore. Out of sight, out of mind. The ugly freak isn’t in the class anymore, so why bother pretending to care about her and build up her confidence? The girl that “antagonizes” Antou admonishes the class for it, calling them out on their fake pity and fake friendship at Antou’s expense. She spends the whole manga trying to break Antou’s determination because she knows and understands it’s a temporary, fake thing that will hurt her horrifically once the illusion fades.
She figures by getting her to quit bothering for the sports festival, everyone’s interest in her will fade much more quietly, as opposed to letting her feel a fake high and crash. Then she finally snaps herself.
Well, without much debate, Antou is thankful that for once somebody is being honest with her and not bullshitting to her face.
I think she’s breaking down at the realization that she is actually is prejudiced towards Antou’s physical appearance like everyone else, and while she wasn’t faking sympathy towards Antou, her disgusts were very much real. While her actions were “helping” Antou much more than her fake friends, it was nontheless much more self-serving than she let on. It wasn’t for Antou’s sake: she just hated watching people be nice to the freak and was covering it up with fake sympathies herself.
In the end, she’s not really that much better than anyone else in her class, using Antou as a prop to make herself look good by pretending to actually care about her. By pretending to care about Antou’s well being
She’s finally understanding that she’s just as bad as everyone else, just in a different, even more dishonest way at heart.
At least, that’s how I view it. She’s breaking down at the realization that she’s not really much better than anyone else around her.
I think there’s a less cynical interpretation that she’s just screaming what everyone else (not herself) has been wanting to scream at their beloved Recchan this whole time, and she’s moreso just breaking down at the revelation that nothing changes. Despite her best efforts, Antou was still hurt and the class got what they wanted, and she’s just crying and breaking down at how hopeless and pointless it all was and even now that she’s finally been honest to Antou, it doesn’t matter. It’s far too late to change anything and all the honesty in the world won’t change the situation.
Personally? I never got the feeling she was sincerely looking out for Antou’s well-being as I read this. I think yelling at Antou calling her a monster is her own personal feelings spilling out, as opposed to the first page where she says the class should tell her to be honest. It’s herself being honest with Antou about what she really thinks about her, and she can no longer pretend she’s a good person who was looking out for Antou’s emotional wellbeing. She lied to herself about caring about Antou for a similar reason to everyone else, but somehow even more dishonest than those around her and she’s just realizing her own hypocrisy and the reality she’s arguably the worst of them all. But, that less cynical, less depressing interpretation is there I think.
