“Oh, come on Rubes, you’ve gotta have someone in your life,” Yang said as she tossed a can of soda to Ruby. “What do you spend all of your free time doing?” 

Ruby caught the soda and tapped the top of it before popping the top slowly to let the fizz bubble up a bit. “Just the usual stuff. Maintenance on Crescent Rose to keep her in shape, beating all of your high scores in our old video games, chatting with Penny… I keep myself plenty busy.” 

Yang raised a brow. “Just chatting with Penny? Are you sure its not more?” 

“Its just chatting.” Ruby took a sip of her soda and relaxed a bit. “There’s nothing going on between Penny and I.” 

“Do you want there to be?” 

“Honestly, I dont know.” 

“You both are inseparable. How are you still unsure if you want to date her or not?” 

“I dont have feelings for her like that,” Ruby answered. *Not that I have feelings like that for anyone.* She had desperately wished she could say the quiet part out loud to get people off her back about dating. Her dad was always on her case about finding someone to settle down with to have kids with, Yang and Blake were constantly asking when she and Penny would get together… even Weiss had a habit of setting her up on dates with boys and girls alike in the hopes to find her “other half” as she called it. “Besides, we’re better as friends anyway. Dating would just complicate things.” 

“Are you sure? I could always help you get a date-” 

“Thanks, but I’m sure I dont want your help getting a date with Penny. Or anyone else for that matter.” 

Yang let out a sigh and sat her soda down. “Alright Ruby, spill it.” 

“Spill what?” 

“You’ve been avoiding asking Penny out on a date since Beacon and you’ve turned down everyone else who’s asked you on dates. Are you worried about anyone figuring out you’re trans-” 

“No, its nothing like that.” Ruby took another sip and placed the can down in front of her, staring at the reflection that showed. “I’m just… not interested in dating. Or romance. Sure, Penny and I still get intimate, but… I’m not even sure I need that.” 

“First, that’s gross,” Yang stated. “And second, are you sure that’s what you want?” 

“No, but… its how I feel,” Ruby answered quietly. “I know I love Penny, but… its not the same kind of love you feel for Blake. Its… its not less but its the same kind of love I feel for you or Weiss or Jaune. Something… familial. I just… cant see myself in a relationship with her. Or anyone, really.” 

Yang nodded and moved closer to Ruby. “I’ll try to get dad off your back about it.” 

“You will?” 

“Of course. I’m not going to say I fully understand how you feel, but… you do you. And if you’re not feeling up to getting romantical with anyone-” 

“Romantical?” Ruby asked with a scoff. “Is that even a word?” 

“I just said it, so it is,” Yang said with a smile. “But either way, I want you to be happy. Not have you forced into something you’re not sure about.” 

“So you’ll lay off too then, right?” 

“Cross my heart and hope to die. Or you can feed me to a grimm.” 

“Good.” Ruby finished off the rest of her soda and smirked as she grabbed her game console. “And I hope you’re ready for me to kick your butt!” 

“In your dreams,” Yang said with a smile as she grabbed a controller.

final thought - breaking the pride tradition and more than likely won't make a new piece. the top one from TDOV is all i'm making this year. i have my focus on other projects currently and i don't want to force a poster design. these came from a specific head space and my current head space is Very Tired lmao so i wanna work on other things. 👍
