Bread’s Game Journal 07/06/20: I Will Like Horizon Zero Dawn If It Kills Me.
I bought Horizon Zero Dawn’s complete edition like two and a half years ago now and I’ve tried desperately to get into it many times. Sometimes I drop out of it because a new game I want to play more is hitting around the same time I try playing it (like right now even, which i’m an idiot for, because Ghost of Tsushima is right around the corner), sometimes the combat wears on me, and at least one time I just got bothered by the games weird restrictive fast travel system. Everything else though? Everything else in this game should be something I want! I have such a hard time understanding why I can’t bring myself to like this video game!
Think about it, it has every ingredient you know that I like. A fascinating spin on the old classic post apocalypse story line! Engaging battles with big robots who crumble into pieces as you fight them! A huge and varied open world to explore! What is it about this game that’s just never clicked for me! I like the lead character, I like the side characters (character animation is a little stilted but, eh, what are you gonna do?), I like the world! So what is it keeping me from this thing?
Here I am again though, playing Horizon Zero Dawn, enjoying Horizon Zero Dawn, waiting for the reason (again, probably Ghost of Tsushima) why i’ll drop out for like the sixth time. Please, help me to understand why this game is like a relationship I constantly break off and restart. I have zero idea myself, but I always find my way back eventually.
Random Screenshot Of The Day:
You know what it does have going for it though? Like most of Sony’s first party games? A sweet as hell Photo Mode.
- I’ve been writing a lot about WoW recently, but I have another solid sketched out idea for a new series of posts, I don’t know whether I should take a break and try to do a series on something else (maybe like long gestating Skyrim city retrospective?) first, or just jump right in...
- Seriously though, Ghost of Tsushima looking real good right? Can’t wait for that one.
