Townsend was (and is) NOT a romantic option or rival. He was protection in prison for Robert to help him survive the years otherwise, more than likely, he might be dead by now (it’s down to gratitude and owing his life to him). Townsend is dangerous and volatile and Robert knows how to handle him in those moments but that doesn’t mean he won’t go after Aaron. There is NO choice between the two… Aaron is his endgame (and love of his life) and always will be.

And let’s not forget he blanked Townsend for months wanting to forget him (and his prison trauma). The only reason he’s being given thought now is because he is dying. There is more going on that hasn’t come up yet (the arc has only barely begun) but will in twists, simple as that.
