Look How They Align

The guy is standing with his back to him in front of an open locker. He’s in the middle of changing and Buck doesn’t mean to gawk but then the guy turns to the side and-

That’s definitely the hot dad from Sophie’s school.

“Uh Carla,” he says vaguely, not entirely sure he hasn’t interrupted her. “I’ll have to call you back." He drops his phone back down by his side before she has a chance to reply, staring in dumbfounded bewilderment as Eddie Diaz pulls an LAFD shirt over his – very chiselled – chest.

“You know it’s rude to stare.”

Buck jumps, snapping his neck to the side to see Hen approaching.

“Do we need to get you laid?” she asks bluntly. “Should Karen and I take you out this weekend? I mean, first that dad at the kids’ school and now the new guy? Come on, Buck. Close your mouth.”

He splutters, tries to muster up some indignation at Hen’s comment, but then he catches sight of Eddie again, now buttoning up his over-shirt and instead all he can manage is-

“That is the hot dad from the kids’ school.”

In which Buck has a crush on the hot dad of the new kid in his daughter's class. The hot dad who also happens to be his new co-worker. Yeah, this is fine.

Buck Day Afternoon

“He baby-trapped you,” the man said with a misplaced confidence that was almost impressive, “that’s fucked up, man.”

Buck blinked. Then blinked again. Then, “Uh... no. No, that’s not—”

“Shut it, Benji, that’s not what happened,” the other robber scowled, no longer trying to pretend he wasn’t eavesdropping. “They’re both dudes. A dude can’t baby-trap another dude.”

“Of course they can. Equal rights and shit! That’s what the parades are for.”

There's a hostage situation at the bank and Buck is forced to reevaluate his relationship with Eddie (and vice versa).

everything (nothing) has changed

After Eddie gets shot, Buck confesses his love. From there, things get a little out of hand.

Buck breathes for a moment, then sets his shoulders. "Eddie, there's something I have to tell you."

"Do you?" Eddie asks flatly, still alarmed and doing his best to hide it. "I would've never guessed."

Buck swallows. "Eddie, I love you."

"Are you softening the blow, or buttering me up? Because, I've got to tell you, I'm still very worried regardless," Eddie tells him.

"No, you don't understand. I love you. I'm currently in love with you," Buck says as evenly as possible, and even then, his voice wobbles precariously there for a moment. He exhales. "You don't have to worry about it, though, because I've processed it and decided to—to find relief in telling you before moving on and moving forward."

Eddie stares at him. No response at all.

Well, at least he's not freaking out.

“Bless your heart, you really are new to this. Good for y’all, though. I’m glad this ship is… accepting.”

Eddie straightens in his seat. “What does that mean?”

All four wince as a young man taps the microphone onstage.

“Testing, testing,” he jokes. “Welcome to the Cruisin’ Couples Trivia Tournament!”

The patrons around them cheer. Eddie digs his nails into Buck’s skin harsh enough to make him wince.

“Oh,” he breathes. “This is for couples.”

or: After getting dumped, Buck is left with two tickets to a weeklong cruise. Eddie steps in to support a friend in need, but complications arise when his friend becomes his fake husband. All's fair in love, war, and trivia.

The Best Lie is a Truth (My Best Mask is My Face)

The Buckleys are celebrating their 50th Anniversary, and Maddie and Buck are both expected to come. To take the heat off Maddie, Buck impulsively blurts out that he's seeing someone new.

Obviously, there's only one solution: bring Eddie as his fake boyfriend, pretend to be in love with him, and survive the weekend with minimal bloodshed. No problem, except for the, uh. "Pretend" part.

I’ll Eat You Instead of Chocolate (You’re Sweeter Anyhow)

When the 118 is called to deal with a "dog" that ended up in someone's house, Buck sustains a bite. It's fine, in fact it healed really quickly, and he doesn't see a need to make any fuss.

The fact that he's craving raw meat, wants to be taken on a walk, and has a crazy strong sense of smell now are completely unrelated. Definitely. For sure.

Eddie's PTSD is just that little bit worse and when he moves to Los Angeles, instead of joining the LAFD, he joins dispatch. 

Which is all good and fine, except for this one firefighter he keeps ending up talking to.

all that we need

When Buck buys a Powerball lottery ticket he doesn't think much beyond his need for change to air up his tire. He forgets all about the ticket until word spreads that the winning ticket was sold in LA and hasn't been claimed yet and pretty much dismisses it. After all, there's no way he won the lottery.

Turns out no, he really did win the Powerball, to the tune of 295 million dollars and just in time for Christmas. He's going to make sure the 118 has the best Christmas of their lives. And just maybe he'll have a good one too.
