Jujutsu Kaisen episode 9 was good because Yuji learns that like, he’s so physically strong but not that experienced with curses so like, his cursed energy takes a while to catch up to him, but what that means is that every time he hits an opponent, he gets 2 separate impacts out of it, and his reaction when he’s told this is just

“That’s so cool!”

I think to streamline what I was saying about Wandering Witch and tone earlier, I’d just say that the show struggles to maintain a balance.

Looking at like, Kino’s Journey, or Somali and the Forest Spirit, or Girls’ Last Tour. Those shows are very acutely aware of what they are, and what their tone is. Because of this, they know their own limits, too. They know how far they can lean into one tone, how much they can bend the wire without it snapping. This is why Somali can have a snowball fight with her dad a few episodes after a man begs to be killed by the harpy whose parents he murdered, why Chito and Yuuri can vibe to a playful song in the rain while pondering what death and the afterlife are. I don’t have a Kino’s Journey example because I’ve not seen the show in like 2 and a half years. I promise it manages though.

Wandering Witch just isn’t smart enough to even have this balancing act. It’s literally just a different show every episode. The show's not attempting to cross this tightrope. It just wants to have its cake and eat it too. And that just hasn’t worked out for it.

This is me and the boys when we see Yuri fight some fake HUGE and there’s just some really extremely gorgeous sakuga on display for whatever reason, I was a big fan.

Anyway actual episode was fine, it’s a lot of cute slice of life/action stuff displaying the overwhelming amount of great character designs this show gives to even complete fuckin random one-offs that’ll get a support unit at max in the mobage and that’s it. Also they talk about the plot and sure don’t show any of it! Yeah apparenty G.E.H.E.N.A are an organisation that exist and genetically engineered Yuri from a Huge and tons of people are observing the school because of it, woohoo. I don’t give a shit. I could give a shit if the show had tried to make me care but it didn’t.

Pretty whatever episode and this post is as unsructured and messy as the show itself but who cares.
