My 2p Headcanon- the military plus dark humor as their basis
So despite the fact that I’ve made it rather clear that I don’t think any of the nations in canon are in any ways substantially datable-I think I’ve also made it rather clear I do think the second players are actually have a better chance of being halfway decent as people and you see there’s a reason for that… despite like the possible amounts of death that they have caused.
So with my AU, I’ve decided to go with this idea that the second players represent the military and the darker parts of history. And you know like the general opposite of the canon countries. So you know it goes into the whole idea that they’re more likable to be around and they act a lot more human. It helps that there’s this very romanticized view of people in the military so it goes into like the stereotype a little bit that they’re more easy to humanize. The funniest aspect is that you know they could still be jerks because men in the military are jerks. Because of all of the things that they do.
So you wanna know what I get to do with that?

In my headcanon, it also plays a role into dark humor. So you know just some degree these men are a little bit murderous and a little bit mildly morally questionable to some variations (some more than other). But have you ever read a single story or listened to a single story by people who used to work in the CIA or the marines or the Pentagon or the military?
The CIA will just have files upon a files of what essentially sounds like an episode of American dad except it happened in real life . (I think that people know what I’m talking about given the retired CIA guy that is a whistleblower)
They were just doing things there. Words are just being said. Our tax dollars are going into what is essentially a bloody boys club and I don’t mean that as an insult. Mostly.
They put the MESS in the word MESSY.
And the worst thing is, they are all so desperate for a GF. They got the craziest dating lives I’ve ever heard.
People make criticisms towards YN being an attention-seeker in certain fan fiction with her 12 harem country boyfriends, which fair. I can’t really say I’m a fan either…having one is too much.
But… listen… just from hearing one story about the military…what if I told you that there was a possibility that some of that Mary sue shit could happen. And they would have been a few decades ago, little to no consequence? All things are possible unfortunately, including that.
So yeah, unfortunately in my headcanon they are not only more human, but also sillier in the worst way and more datable in a mediocre way to varying degrees.
They are barely dateable, and I love that for them.
