Get your Disney news here! It was a little light on news this week, but there's still great stuff coming your way!
Let's get right into it this week. Last Sunday was Disneyland’s 61st anniversary, but this fall over on the east coast, we have Walt Disney World’s 45th anniversary to celebrate! What better way to celebrate than with merchandise? I’m also going to tentatively put it out there that this will be a mini test-run to help get ready for the 50th anniversary. Hope your wallets are ready!
New Indiana Jones Funko POP Vinyl figures are coming to the parks on July 22- be sure to pick up your favorite whip wielding hero this Friday.
Disney Springs is getting BBQ with the Polite Pig restaurant- set to open Spring 2017. This is a spin-off of the Ravenous Pig restaurant from Florida natives Julie and James Petrakis and will feature wood-fired smoked and grilled items in a casual setting. The restaurant will also serve craft brews from the Petrakis’ restaurant Cask & Larder in Winter Park, as well as other wines and cocktails.
The Chase debit and credit card member’s lounge will return to the Food & Wine Festival this year, allowing members to relax in the 3rd floor of the American Adventure Pavilion and escape the hustle and bustle that can be Epcot during this time of year. The lounge opens from 11 am to park close during the festival, beginning on September 14, 2016 through November 14, 2016.
The AbracadaBar is opening soon down on Disney's Boardwalk and the first look inside reveals some of the magic taking shape.
There was some testing for Rivers of Light floats going on in Animal Kingdom this Friday! Guests got to see some turtle looking floats moving about on the Discovery River. What does this mean for the Jungle Book: Alive with Magic show? Well, as of Friday night, the show was still being packed full of guests for both show times. Unfortunately, we have been told that during the first showing, the singers were not actually out on the floats and the singing was a recording, which was a minor disappointment since the singers are an excellent accompaniment to the imaging on the water. Fortunately, while walking around, we did see the singer of "Wanna Be Like You" out on the floating stage for the second show of the nights. I won't speculate to say this show is ending soon and Rivers of Light is coming soon, but I will say that the crew over at Animal Kingdom is continuing to work on getting everything just right in order to debut Rivers of Light once everything is up and ready for viewing, which is good news!
The updated to the facade of Carousel of Progress looks really beautiful and brings a little pop of color to the attraction that is seemingly jut off in the corner. Some lovely pics thanks to WDW News Today showing off the vibrant colors! Hopefully this beckons more people to come and enjoy the attraction (not nap!)
The international trailer for Moana gives us what audiences react to the most- baby Moana! The Japanese trailer tugs at the heart strings while offering a taste of the breathtaking animation. I do believe I will want to see this in 3D when it's released.
Calling all video game and Star Wars fans- The Old Republic is getting a new expansion- Knights of the Eternal Throne- coming this Fall! Not much more has been released about this, but the image certainly has me interested.
And last but certainly not least, SDCC brought us some amazing teasers for the upcoming Marvel's Netflix series, which have been amazing thus far. From the intense Daredevil seasons 1 and 2 to our lovely Jessica Jones, we move along to the fierce Luke Cage, introduce a new character in Iron Fist, and culminate with 2017's team up of The Defenders!
The Luke Cage trailer looks amazing with a reminiscent Daredevil hallway scene (you know which one I'm referring to) but instead of parkouring down the hallway, Luke just barrels through and doesn't take any nonsense. Plus the music is perfection. Coming September 30, 2016- get your binge on!
We don't get a release date for Iron Fist, but the trailer has me interested in this new type of mystical superhero. I'm hoping this series will be a nice companion to Doctor Strange's universe. Since he's part of The Defenders, we can guess that this may be the spring 2017 release and The Defenders will be our fall release (here's hoping).
And, last but certainly not least, we get the culmination of what everyone's been waiting for- The Defenders- coming 2017!
