Version 32.0

There is nothing like watching a game live,

mesmerized by the movement, monitoring

the build up, the play development, the shot,

the score, the roar of a rabid audience, the

palpable joy while it happens in real time.

But dating someone new, filling them in

on your life is like replaying the highlights,

an abbreviated review of the choicest bits

curated for an audience that can never know

the experience, manufactured memories.

And every time you have to give the speech,

the story gets shorter, details get trimmed,

another ounce of emotion siphoned off,

knowing it might all be for naught, and

nothing you say will make a difference.

And at some point your realize that while

you are desperately trying to get someone,

anyone, to recognize the story of your life

as significant, you have stopped making

new memories, and the old ones aren’t

getting

it

   done.
