Big #shoutout to @raneyokeefe for the support! #thankyou and #welldone. I’m gonna make a guess and say you are not of the #53percent but the other #47percent . The fight continues - we all got skin in the game - 👍🏾Stay vigilant. Stay informed. Full Disclosure: As I writing this post I did a quick fact check and the more accurate number is 53% of white women voted 45 into office. I stand corrected. . I have been thinking about this statistic a long time. Especially when I keep hearing “This is not the America I know. This is not who we are.” . Voting records begs to differ. . By Julie Kohler "To understand the “white woman story,” we must first acknowledge that white supremacy remains the prevailing force in electoral politics—that, as @mhpshow - Melissa Harris-Perry noted, “there is a race [voting] gap of enormous proportions and a gender gap of very slim margins in this country…. gender politics is a secondary game, not the main show.” Data consistently support this statement; the race gap between black and white voters in modern elections runs 40–50+ points, whereas the gender gap runs about 10. That said, white women are not a monolithic voting bloc, and their voting behavior is highly related to the interplay of several factors: heterosexual marriage, education, and religion. There was a 20-point gap in support for Hillary Clinton between college-educated (56 percent) and non-college-educated (36 percent) white women in 2016.” . #theother47percent #53percent #neverforget #whitewomen #familyseparation #immigration #blacklivesmatter #womensrights #wefight #weresist #wewillwin #outfittingtherevolution #deconstructtheconstruct #itslifeordeathforus #intersectionality #civilrights #humanrights #equality #equalityforall no #racism #classism #xenophobia #alliesandchampions #notagame #resistance (at Brooklyn, New York)
I finally had a chance to catch the screening of the short film This Little Light of Mine: The Legacy of #FannieLouHamer by filmmaker #RobinHamilton tonight. When @mowfilmfest hosted this screening last October, the film was followed by a discussion with veteran activist #DorieLadner, Hamilton, and moderated by Kim Jeffries Leonard, President and CEO of Envision Consulting and Member of LINKS, Inc. These dynamic women talked about Mrs. Hamer's life and shared stories to deepen our understanding of how women played an integral role in the #CivilRights Movement. Tonight presented a different sort of panel. One less familiar with both the life and living legacy of Mrs. Hamner. Somehow the bulk of the post-film discussion centered itself on women voters -- specifically white women -- who didn't vote, or voted against the issues Mrs Hamner advocated for during her life, and suffered greatly to advance. In full disclosure, I do see where I missed that tonight's event was promoted as a 'commemoration of the Women’s March' and was intended to 'assess how we are moving women from marching to voting and further activism.' The screening was hosted by the film fest in partnership w Raben Impact. Always read the fine print ladies & gentleman. My black friend Avery sent me tee shirt design, she suggested I sell it on my online store. NOT FUNNY, AVERY. But that shade of towel would look great with my binchotan wrap. #myblackfriend #avery #notaracist #blackhistorymonth #whitewomen #53percent #weslercotton #towel #binchotan #gorl
Now that I've caught up on all this % business...
You know 99%, 1%, 47%, 53% and all that.
I have concluded that the vast majority of people claiming to be part the 53% (of Americans that pay federal taxes) ARE actually part of the 99%, they just don't want handouts. Okay fine. However, a lot of them are generalizing to say that everyone that is advocating for the 99% wants handouts from the government, are lazy, and sit at home and don't work. Also, most are saying that because THEY worked hard and are still working hard, every one else should too as this is the "American Dream". Sort of the "if I can do it, you can do it" mentality.
I'm sorry to say, but not EVERYONE has the opportunity "work had in school and get a scholarship", or have parents that even supported them through school to show that hard work pays off, or FIND a part time job until they can get a better one. Many times people neglect the fact that we are not all blessed with the same opportunities, or the knowledge and education to know the right moves to make. Working every day of your life through illness, incurring unpayable debt, TRYING to make it through life until the day you die and leave your family to pick up the pieces is not the American Dream.
If you are proud of your accomplishments that's good for you. Be proud. However, don't patronize others because they weren't given the same opportunities, even if your opportunity may not have been "all that much"... there is always the person that isn't even aware that the opportunity exists. Get your nose out of the air and look around in order to help them.
Total fake. Fraud. Typical winger bullshit. No shame, no honor, no honesty, no principles.
