And then I did a double take
I was just thinking about the top 5 best plot twists I’ve seen/read and I came up with a list. Don’t judge me. This is based on the impact they had on me THE FIRST TIME I saw them/read them. The re-watch or reread factor with the context of the twist is also included in my ranking. Scroll past for spoilers about: warrior cats, guardians of ga’hoole, red Queen, the usual suspects, 6th sense, invincible, the haunting of hill house, Star Wars, Shutter Island, fight club, wings of fire
honorable mentions:
guardians of ga’hoole: metal beak is kludd
invincible: Omni-Man going crazy at the end of the first episode and being evil
Star Wars: Darth Vader is Luke’s father
shutter island: Teddy isn’t a US Marshall, he’s an inmate that killed his wife and kids
fight club: the main character is Tyler Durden
wings of fire: the dragonet prophecy was fake
5. 6th sense: the main character is dead all along. I know M Night Shaymalan movies Can get a bit old with the twists. But damn. This one’s crazy. And neither he nor the audience realizes it until the little kid tells him. Then you think about all the moments he had with his wife where you thought she was just angry at him. But it was literally HIM HAUNTING HER!!! Very fun to watch again knowing it and looking at all the details again.
4. Red Queen: Maven betrays Mare and Cal at the same time. I was shook. I thought I had it all figured out. Because I saw Cal betraying Mare right from the start, he was too loyal to the king and crown. But when Maven was able to stand up through his mom’s mind control I audibly gasped and nearly threw the book across the room. The manipulative piece of trash. And man does he become just a great villain to root against. Plus the whole series is just really good. I like that they call out the dismantling of one empire just for another one to take its place and Mare has to reconcile that.
3. the usual suspects: Verbal is Keyser Söze all along. Boy oh boy. I’d heard there was a twist in this movie and I actively avoided it at all costs prior to watching. And then I saw it and was floored. Very intricate plot that is great for re watching. And the fact that all the parts of the story are just made up from different objects in the interrogation room is genius. Great film overall too.
2. haunting of hill house: this is a two for one deal. The big one is that the red room was each of the family’s special rooms the whole time. The treehouse, dance studio, game room, reading room, ect. Then you watch again and you notice the windo and the fact that there’s something red in every room and that all the interactions with the door are the other characters trying to get in. I love it. The other twist about Nell being the bent neck lady is tragic and it messed me up for a week. Nell and Luke have the saddest stories and I love them both
Warrior cats Long Shadows : the three not being Squirrelstar’s kits. My 11 year old world was rocked. Because who else’s kits could they possibly be?! They had to be related to Firestar so who else?! Don’t judge me I was 11. But the impact of that book rocked the rest of the story through OOTS, AVS, and TBC. And honestly is still impacting ASC with the final resolution of Squilf and Bramble’s relationship. Plus kid me was so shocked and its all me and my friends could talk about until the 6th book came out.
Again, don’t judge me. what about y’all, what are some of your favorite plot twists?
To me, my heart is my sixth sense. Now anatomically though the heart is referred to that organ which constantly pumps blood for an entire lifespan, when I speak esoterically here - then the heart is like a transparent filter that I place before all my other five senses. So basically anything that I see, hear, touch, smell and taste essentially at first gets through this filter. While anatomically the physical heart is placed inside behind the rib cage, esoterically I'm keeping it like a shield in front of all the other senses. I absorb every word, I absorb every glance, I absorb every sound, I absorb every touch, I absorb every odour, I absorb every taste. Everything that's directed at this soul, it is my heart standing at the forefront. What I allow is what finds place within me. What I don't, simply gets flushed out though physically it may reach my sensory perceptions. What a gift this sixth sense is, the guardian - the brave, brave guardian!

Which element is a natural proof for the belief that freedom is more important than life? Thinking in terms of Classical Greek Philosophy, and Paganism, Wicca, or Ceremonial Magic, but if you want to put science on the table all comers are welcome to take the challenge, period. 😋
I will respond when someone replies with both the correct answer, and the proof in form of a basic example a kindergarten child could understand implicitly. Then we can talk about why this idea is not taught to our children.
