Activities - What do they like to do with their s/o? How do they spend their free time with them?
Columbo has a wide range of interests, even if he doesn’t know too much about them. I mean he loves music, art, theatre, film, sports (only watching them of course, by no means does this man have any athletic bone in his body), food of course too, but he loves being surprised by a new and exciting adventure. Just, uh, as long as it doesn’t involve heights. Or anything that can get him seasick. Or, well, anything that involves any of his fears. His favorite activity, however, is having a nice afternoon walk with you and Dog on the California coastline, followed by a picnic by the sea.
Beauty - What do they admire about their s/o? What do they think is beautiful about them?
Oh gosh, everything. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again - Columbo did not fall for your looks solely. I mean he absolutely thinks you’re very alluring, and that does add to his overall attraction to you. But that’s not all he finds attractive about you - he loves how passionate you are about your interests, how hard you work, how intelligent you are, how strong wiled you are. And, importantly, how you are a separate person with unique hopes, wants, and dreams outside your relationship to Columbo. To just name a few things.
Comfort - How would they help their s/o when they feel down/have a panic attack etc.?
If you’re having a panic attack, he’ll sit next to you, holding your hand and making sure you’re okay. He’s had to deal with panic attacks and strong reactions from family members of victims in his line of work, so he’s really good at handling them in your relationship if you happen to suffer from them too. If you just feel down, Columbo will be there to help you out with cuddles. He’ll also probably offer you an egg, which is goofy, but they make him happy, so maybe they would make you happy too? Yeah, they usually make you happy, and Columbo loves when he makes you laugh, even if it’s just a little chuckle.
Dreams - How do they picture their future with their s/o?
Columbo is just a very grateful guy, and he’s perfectly happy with how your relationship progresses. He understands that work life and home life can sometimes get complicated, but he’d love to give you his last name one day in the future. He does love you a lot and wants to spend the rest of his life with you, if you’d want to embark on that journey with him as well.
Equal - Are they the dominant one in the relationship, or rather passive?
Columbo is a pretty traditional guy, so he has some gendered expectations in the relationship, but it’s nothing demeaning at all. He wants you to follow your dreams and chase your passions. Columbo is a very respectful and chivalrous guy, and thinks his partner deserves to be treated right. He's just, also a bit of a klutz and can’t cook well, so please help him out a bit in the kitchen unless you want to be eating omelettes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner everyday. Nonetheless, you are basically equals within the household.
Fight - Would they be easy to forgive their s/o? How are they fighting?
It’s hard to even imagine you and Columbo getting into a fight, to be honest. He’s a very understanding man, and if you are frustrated or upset, he’d rather sit down, listen, and talk through the problem then come at each other. Usually you can work out your differences this way, and problems get quickly resolved.
Gratitude - How grateful are they in general? Are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them?
Columbo is so grateful for your relationship everyday of his life, and takes notice in all that you do to make the relationship work. And he’ll constantly remind you of how grateful he is, and how much he loves you all the time. Just in case you forget. It’s a mutual partnership where you both give it your all.
Honesty - Do they have secrets they hide from their s/o? Or do they share everything?
Oh he shares EVERYTHING with you. I’m not sure the legality of him sharing cases / evidence with you, but even if it’s frowned upon he’s still gonna talk about it HAHA. He feels his best work comes when he gets to run his ideas by you. He’ll give you credit for all the solved cases too, and says he couldn’t do it without you.
Inspiration - Did their s/o change them somehow, or the other way around? Like trying out new things or helped them overcome personal problems?
You just make Columbo happy to wake up every morning, and just feel like there is a little bit of extra light in his life. Especially because of the incredibly depraved and scary things he sees on the field, he just knows he can come home and leave that all behind when he’s with you.
Jealousy - Do they get jealous easily? How do they deal with it?
Nope! Not at all, you only have eyes for each other, and everyone knows how much Columbo loves you. I mean it’s pretty obvious, because of how much he talks about you, he takes every opportunity to tell people about you. Anytime a girl even tries to flirt with him he pulls out some random anecdotes about him and you. Same with you! Everyone knows how happy you and Columbo are with each other, and they can sense the love you share. Literally nothing, and nobody can tear you away from each other.
Kiss - Are they a good kisser? What was the first kiss like?
Columbo’s kisses are always incredibly tender, if a bit chaste. But they always are filled with so much passion and love. Every morning before he goes to work, he has to give you a kiss - that’s his good luck charm, and he knows he’s gonna have a good day. No matter how long you’ve been dating, or even when you’re married, he always will be the type to ask permission before he kisses you.
Love Confession - How would they confess to their s/o?
He confesses his love to you after seeing each other for a bit, casually on a park bench at night. You’ll sit next to each other, quietly for a bit, Columbo chewing nervously on one of his cigars when he’ll finally turn to you.
“Y’know...(Y/N), we’ve been going out...doin’ this thing for a little bit and I uh...” he gets very shy, his cheeks starting to flush that usual shade of red when he feels flustered. “And it’s got me thinking a lot, about...” He rubs his hand against his head in deep concentration, then runs it through his messy hair. “I hope I’m not rushing things too much when I say this. Because I don’t want to force you into anything you don’t feel comfortable with, I like you a lot, and I-”
You cut him off, he was gonna ramble all night at this rate. “Columbo,” you turn to him, giving him a gentle smile. “I love you too.”
He blushes and interlocks his hand with yours, smiling. “I love you, (Y/N)."
Marriage - Do they want to get married? How do they propose? What would the marriage be like?
Yeah, of course he wants to marry you someday! Everyone always jokes about you act like a married couple already, might as well make it official in the future. But he also wants to take his time, and thoroughly enjoy all steps and aspects of your relationship.
Nicknames - What do they call their s/o?
He calls you pet-names such as “babe, doll, dollface, and sweetheart.” He tries to stay away from any nicknames that might infantilize you, which makes him incredibly uncomfortable.
On Cloud Nine - What are they like when they are in love? Is it obvious for others? How do they express their feelings?
The world just seems a little bit brighter to Columbo when he’s in love, and everyone in the office notices a tiny bit of change in his demeanor. It’s also pretty obvious to everyone too, because he uses every opportunity to gush about you, even the tiniest of things he will just get SO excited about and feels like he has to share it with the whole world. He’s very open about your relationship.
PDA - Are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag with their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?
So he’s very upfront about your relationship, and talks about you all the time no doubt. However, Columbo also understands there is a time and a place for certain aspects of physical affection, and doesn’t express too much of it in public. Of course he’ll kiss you, or hold your hand, but you’re not gonna be full on making out anywhere. But everyone knows how much you love each other just by your words alone, and the way you can’t help but smile and blush when you lock eyes.
Quirk - Some random ability they have that’s beneficial in a relationship.
He’s willing to try everything almost once, as long as it doesn’t involve something he’s deathly afraid of. He’s got a couple of those, but you’re respectful of that. He has a lot of interests, and he’s always willing to indulge in them with you. With Columbo, you feel you can be yourself with all your beautiful quirky attributes, and he feels the same too.
Romance - How romantic are they? What would they do to make their s/o happy? Cliché or rather creative?
His romance may come across old fashioned or a little cheesy, but he is a very romantic soul, and everything he does just proves to you how much he loves you :))) It’s a bit cliché, I mean he’s a big fan of candlelight dinners, bringing home a bouquet of red roses for you, that kind of stuff.
Support - Are they helping their s/o achieve their goals? Do they believe in them?
Yes! You are mutually supportive of each other and want to support each other in all your endeavors together. As mentioned before, Columbo knows that you are a unique individual with hopes, wants, and dreams outside of the relationship the two of you share. And he’s with you every step of the way, giving you a boost of confidence when you need it the most! He believes in you so much. <3
Thrill - Do they need to try out new things to spice out your relationship? Or do they prefer a certain routine?
He's a simple man! The littlest of things make him happy, and fall even further in love with you. It’s funny how he’ll just get super excited over you just making him a cup of coffee. He doesn’t need anything fancy, he just needs you.
Understanding - How good do they know their partner? Are they empathetic?
You and Columbo know each other super well, and he is incredibly empathetic. He’s always willing to lend an ear when you are struggling, or knows to jump in when you’re feeling especially bad. He can also tell when you are lying. This man catches people in lies for a living, he’ll know when you’re hiding the sadness and pain behind your voice.
Value - How important is the relationship to them? What is it’s worth in comparison to other things in their life?
He values your relationship so much!!! It’s the most important thing to him in his life, and he would do anything for you. Even though his work is very important and time consuming, he also credits his massive success in his field to you. Because you’re always there to help him run down the notes he made, or try to help him piece together his thoughts on a particularly hard case.
Wild Card - A random Fluff Headcanon.
So obviously Columbo likes when his hair is played with, but I feel like he also like practically purrs like a cat when your nails scratch across his scalp, messing with his hair as his head lays in your lap. He’s practically in heaven during those moments and curls up just like a cat.
XOXO - Are they very affectionate? Do they love to kiss and cuddle?
Oh man he LOVES to cuddle with you, always taking every opportunity to wrap his arms around you in a bear hug. Columbo is such a good cuddler, and he gives the best hugs. He prefers being the little spoon though, he just feels so safe and protected in your arms. He also loves kisses of course, always taking the opportunity to sneak a kiss, making the both of you flustered every time.
Yearning - How will they cope when they’re missing their partner?
Oh, Columbo is traveling for work? Oh no you’ve must be mistaken, Columbo and YOU are traveling for work, he can’t bare to be away from you for too long. He takes the opportunity for you to have a little mini vacation too! But, in those off chances that you have to be away from each other for a while, Columbo’s demeanor changes - it’s almost like he deflates a bit. He has a hard time coping, but loves to be able to stay in touch by calling you, or sending little postcards from wherever he is. You’ll always hang them on the fridge.
Zeal - Are they willing to go to great lenghts for the relationship? If so, what kind of?
Absolutely he would do anything for your relationship. He thinks you’re just such an amazing individual, inside and out, and the amount of love you give him is almost unthinkable. He tries everyday to match, and even double the love you give him. You are his world.
