Miss Mary Bennet and Mr Tom Hayward 💜💛
Do y'all remember when Mycroft told Mrs. Hudson to shut up and the trio looked at him like this:
Fucking iconic.
AMELIA BULLMORE as Yvonne Vaux Riot Women (2025–)
I love that in The Other Bennet Sister, they shine a spotlight on characters not only like Mary, but also on Mr. Collins and Charlotte. It was so unexpected! I actually came to appreciate Mr. Collins? Their little friendship was so touching. And what's more, the fact that characters we adored are shown in a less favorable, not detestable, light—like Mr. Bennet, or even Elizabeth and Jane—is wonderful. They don't become evil, just less vibrant than in the original. Which makes sense since we're seeing things from Mary's perspective, generally ignoring the Bennet sisters. Especially since it's very well connected to canon, with flaws they always had in the original. Mrs. Bennet, on the other hand, becomes even more detestable than before (which makes sense), and we couldn't care less about Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy. Literally, the actors aren't even handsome. Which makes sense, since we're seeing things from Mary's perspective, with absolutely no interest in these men.
Today marks 21 years since the premiere of North & South on the BBC One.

Saturday Kitchen Live, part 2/3: 'Battersea... that's in your neck of the woods, right?'
Without further ado, here goes. With immense pleasure and likewise gratitude to my informer:
MT:'... and you've got a restaurant now, in London...'
HSP: ' In London. I have Joia, which actually we have this dish in Joia, if you don't wanna make it, just go there...'
The American besties laugh and so does S. Matt Tebbutt immediately picks it up and...
MT (over his shoulder): 'Battersea. It's in your neck of the woods, yeah?'
S: 'It is, yeah. I walked past it so many times and never been, so now there's no excuse. And I hear you have an amazing rooftop bar'.
HSP: 'Yeah, you...Sorry?'
S: 'You have an amazing rooftop bar'.
Olly Smith, inaudible.
HSP: 'Yeah, it's got a beautiful bar. We're actually launching a new bar, called Perla, which means Pearl...'
The Americans :' Awww...'
S: 'Aye' 😅😅😅
Americans & Olly Smith - inaudible, something is on top of something else.
S:'If you need a very substandard barman I'm... I'm your man' (Americans laugh)
HSP: ' Yeah. Maybe we'll invite you to go and do some cocktails for us.''
S: ' Done. Let's do it.'
One of the Americans: 'Please invite us as well'. Purv picking this up in 3, 2... 😅😅😅😅
S: 'Just no coriander'.
Everyone laughs. True that: coriander is definitely an acquired taste. I love it since I discovered it in Bangkok, but some will definitely find it too soapy for their own taste.
Anyways, remember how Marple painstakingly insulted our intelligence and explained that was where his favorite sports club was, right? Well, something you walked by so many times is something near the place you live, isn't it?
Your neck of the woods, so to speak. Another open secret, judging by the show host's immediate and very clear reaction only. It's always been like that, but some would not see. Only this time, he chose to embrace it and to hell those Soho staged papwalks. Ahem. One could only hope.
Of course they keep mum about it across the street. Does not fit their narrative and it's all about those silly likes, anyways. And the unfathomable power you can have on unknown people, I suppose.
You'll never have what we collectively have. Sorry, not even sorry.
Liars, fuckwits and fools. God bless them all.
Later edit: @samheughanswife is right to point out, in the comment thread, that she was the first one to bring this critical information to this fandom. That happened in 2023 (https://www.tumblr.com/samheughanswife/711487708023930880/thanks-cawdermill40archery-for-the-photos?source=share) and I remember sitting at my car's wheel, on a pit stop in Porto Rafti, delighted with the information no one picked up, then.
What sounded then completely alien to most is now confirmed by S himself. She never waivered, never varied. That takes strength and courage. And that can only come from personal experience: I can now vouch it is irrepleacable, and mine are oh, way less compelling.
It is a pity and a shame that different POVs on what are, ultimately, narrative line details, preclude a better understanding of the situation at play.
For then and continuously until today, all credits go to her . And, for today, also to my discreet informer, with editing skills I never thought possible.
Onwards. We've got a third one, settling a mystery.
