“I’ll be honest. When Bobby first brought you on board, I told him he should just get a Dalmatian instead. But I’m legit sorry to see you go. You got some skills. Just not a lot of discipline.”
↪ 911 on Fox, 1.01 “Pilot”
Welcome to my 911 rewatch where I’m going to give my thoughts on each episode. I’ll be talking about the big things, small things and everything in between.
Starting with the pilot (obviously lol)
I still can’t believe that they made Abby’s ex Tommy Kinard. As soon as Tommy came back so many of us made the same “wouldn’t it be funny if..” joke about it not thinking for a second that Tim Minear would ever actually go there. Joke was on us it seemed.
Tommy was right though—Abby did have beautiful hair. Though as a natural redhead myself I am kind of biased (even though my hair hasn’t been ginger since my early 20’s as it naturally darkened and now I’m a bleach blonde lol)
I always love the differences in a tv shows pilot episode vs after it gets picked up it terms of character attributes. For example: Hen doesn’t wear glasses in the pilot. Her glasses are such a staple part of her that it’s really odd to see her without them.
Buck and Chimney look like babies!
I totally forgot the Hot Priest was in the pilot episode!
Evan “Firehose” Buckley! I love that’s it’s canon he has a big dick. We really are living in a golden age!
It’s so hard to see Chim back then as a guy who lies to women because he’s insecure.
Buck had such a douchey swagger back then 😂
It’s also really weird to see him with arm hair. Presumably it’s shaved now because of the sheer amount of concealer the make up dept have to slather on his arms everyday these days
“This is not a family.” Oh Bobby, Bobby, Bobby if only you knew what was to come!
“Race yourself, Rambo—I’m 50 years old. I’m taking the elevator.” - Captain Robert Nash 😂
I always forget just how impulsive Buck used to be. Almost impaling a baby with a pick axe!
I know tv shows take liberties with certain things for logistical, aesthetic or entertainment reasons but it’s weird that they’re knocking through a piece of tiled wall, then cutting into a pipe to without any safety goggles, gloves or helmets.
I actually didn’t like Buck all that much when I very first saw the pilot after he yelled at the teenage mother of the baby. It seemed like he wasn’t very empathetic. I like that Athena chewed him out.
Speaking of Athena I loved her style back then.
Michael coming out to his kids and seeing Athena struggle with the fact her marriage was a lie. I just want to hug her!
Chimney’s reaction to the snakes always tickles me and when he calls Hen snakeapedia.
“Why don’t I just punch it in its face.” - Buck 😂
Buck beheading the snake, for once his impulsivity actually helping.
I forget how racier (for lack of a better word) the show was back then. Buck covering his crotch with a blanket on the roof to, presumably, cover his erection lol
“When Bobby first brought you on I thought he should have got a Dalmatian instead.” Bit of a mean comment from Hen, even though she was “legit sad to see [him] go.”
I love that there are 3 separate pop culture references that Buck is too young to understand (Rambo, Conan, TLC’s ‘Waterfalls’).
It’s so weird to hear Abby call him “Fireman Buckley” lol.
I liked that Buck was given a second chance and that Bobby took some responsibility for not making him understand what a privilege the job is to have.
