One of the more crucial points of this whole Siken vs. Buddies and Hellers drama, I feel, is this:

They all could've kept on blithely using Crush and whatever other poetry over in their own little lanes, where original intent and subject doesn't matter, and the words can be taken as literally or with as many allowances as one wills, divorced from the author's life experiences. BUT these people chose to cross the unspoken but obvious boundary of parasociality, and have the audacity to ask the creator DIRECTLY if the poetry he wrote about his boyfriend who died was actually literally about fucking fanfiction. 🤦‍♀️

TW: this is a long rant about Alzheimer's that got very wank-y about fandom and 911, it's totally ok if you don't want to read it, I'm just very... idk the right English word for this, but I'm gonna say reflective. after seeing Carla's Turn

oh, wow. I've just read Lou's statement on the website for Carla's Turn and it broke my heart. I have a grandma with Alzheimer's, and like Carla and Lou, we were best friends. and what Lou said, about the devastation behind the truth that this person, your person, will eventually forget you, is so real.

but even worse than knowing they'll forget you, is watching them forget themselves.

to me, the hardest thing was when my grandma forgot the words to the Hail Mary prayer. My grandma, a devout Catholic who went to the Mass every single day despite a controlling husband who tried to forbid her, didn't know one of the most basic Catholic prayers anymore.

that was like... a year ago. now my grandma doesn't know anyone anymore, and she's a shell of the woman she used to be. funny, an amazing baker, someone who traveled seven continents and spoke flawless French that she learned in high school.

I miss her every single day. Alzheimer is brutal. It's losing a person as they're still alive.

now imagine watching that happens to your favorite person in the world WHILE SOME INTERNET IDIOTS ARE SENDING YOU AND YOUR FAMILY DISGUSTING HATE MESSAGES BECAUSE YOU *checks notes* PLAYED A CHARACTER IN A TV SHOW?

I've always found the hate Lou receives disgusting, but today I actively imagined reading shit like that while also dealing with my grandma's situation, and ugh. yeah. fuck BoBs. fuck them so much. and as much as I love Tommy and BuckTommy, I kinda want Lou to stay as far away as possible from 9-1-1. He doesn't deserve this.

The Underdog

They thought he was a himbo. A pretty face on a great body, with decent acting skills. Good enough to be the love interest of the main character for several episodes.

Within the limited dialogues and screen time he was given, he told the story through his soulful eyes and his micro expressions. We got the messages and we adored him.

But they never wanted him to stay long. His time was measured. He had to say goodbye and walked away. And he took our hearts with him.

love and light to anyone who thinks 9x4 is going to be about anything other than Shannon Diaz. Eddie will never get away from the sound of the woman who love(d) him. He’s going to be convinced Shannon’s ghost is talking to him and telling him to move on with the nice Latina woman he coincidentally meets that same episode. He will appear to reach some kind of closure that will be forgotten about by halfway through the season. Sisyphus’s boulder, hamster on a wheel, etc etc

it is interesting to me that even after we've had not only cast but the showrunner himself say that the story isn't being written that way, a certain sect of fans are ADAMANT that the ship is going canon this week. no, next week. no, season finale. no, next season. no, mid-season finale! it's been said over and over that they're closing the door, fans are free to have their headcanons and fan fics, but that's just not where the story is going. being told 'he's straight' directly, multiple times, yet choosing to ignore it and try to spin it as a misdirect? you're only hurting yourself and the people who choose to listen to you

after the writers shut down the ship for good in 8x11 - because yes, that is what happened in that episode - the showrunner even had this to say

'we should be kind to them, and we should be patient and not say bad things.' if that wasn't enough to get you to start working toward acceptance that it's never happening, i guess i can't help you
