The purest form of Game Design

We were introduced to the idea of paper prototyping.

We began creating a board game following simple guidelines, then eventually either adding or removing features to create our own game. 

We changed most of the mechanics of the game, originally it was a card drawing and then revealing system to show what actions your player would create, and try to defeat the other players. We found very early on that the system was not very intuitive and wasn’t very fun. We decided to scrap the whole card system, and instead used a fixed movement system, where you were always allowed to move up to 5 hexagonal spaces. after every player moved they had the option to fire, which would use up one of their ammo.  The end of the game was quite fun, and my team were very happy with what we had created, fun enough that we would be happy to continue further with the project. The project really showed me how much such a small change to a mechanic can affect the flow of a game, and how easy it is to lose sight of your minimal viable product
