<mdni. dark content, suggested dub-con/non-con, faux-incest(? whatever the fuck is going on with Caleb and MC).>
Nobody asked but I think if you ever had amnesia, Caleb, Rafayel, and Zayne would be the most likely candidates to pretend to be your husband and get away with it. Brief study on Caleb:
Caleb because he knows you inside out, is already in your emergency contact list when the hospital calls. Caleb because he already knows how to be your family…he just gets to do it in a different way, now. Maybe the way he always wanted it to be. He’s quick to whisk you away from your hometown; there are too many memories there, too many people who know what your real relationship was like, too many brows that would be raised at the idea of your precious gege taking his place between your thighs every night.
Caleb is used to guilt, has let it winnow away at him for every time he's looked at you while wanting more, for every pair of panties he's washed by hand, for all the boyfriends that you never had. But now, now it gets him off. It can't stop him anymore, he won't ever let it ever again, not when his precious meimei is looking at him like that, like he's everything to her, the same way she is to him. No more apprehension divides you. You'll never know how many times shame has made him spill into his hand at the fantasy of you pregnant, pliant, and lost without him. And now that he has you, has got that ring on your pretty little finger (a ring he bought in secret, long ago in a state of delirium), he won’t miss his chance to make it reality.
I love the amnesiac reader x Caleb fic what do you think rafayel and zayne would be like 👀
dead dove, mdni. slightly suggestive. a very unhealthy romance.
I hesitate to post these cuz with Caleb he's always kinda been a freak. He doesn't really care if your relationship is "normal" or healthy. He doesn't truly think there is a difference between the cage of the broader world and that of a private mansion he cages you in himself. It canonically doesn't seem to matter to him. As long as he gets to love you.
But in my mind, Zayne and Rafayel would prefer to have something "normal" with you, so it takes a little more to get them there (Zayne moreso than Rafayel). So hopefully I'm not too OOC. But here's why Zayne gets away with calling himself your husband when you get amnesia. See here for Caleb's part.
Zayne gets away with it because he makes a mistake. And seeing you here, comatose in a hospital room, is how he pays for it. If he had been smarter, you never would have gone on this mission. If he had been smarter, you never would have been hurt. If he had been smarter, you never would have left him. Zayne made a mistake. And now, now he swears to himself that if you ever do open your eyes, he would sooner die than make it again.
Everyone trusts Zayne when he answers the call. Your husband is here, they tell you. How lucky you are; he's the best there is, a gentle doctor, a wonderful man. And he is. He is so, so good to you. Anticipating your needs with precision, taking things at your pace. He's good with kids, he's gentle, he's understanding. It's normal to feel hesitant around him, he says. All that matters is that he's yours—in sickness, and in health.
You chalk up the distance, the delicate way he touches and holds and makes love to you—so fragile, like glass, like a petal come loose—you equate it all to Zayne simply being a quiet lover. You can see it in the pictures of the two of you, of the you from before, images held tight in small frames. You looked happy together. You can see it in the meals he cooks for you, in the way he watches you when he doesn't think you're aware, in the whispered confessions he saves for you and you alone when he unravels you. You don't need to question anything. You can feel how deeply he cares for you. Can feel how easy it would be to fall in love with him again. And maybe, maybe you even want to. So you try to jog your memory. You search for scraps of him in your phone, but your messages are wiped clean. Your contacts; all your friends, your presumed colleagues (you did work somewhere, right?), are unreachable, they don't exist. And he won't tell you why.
...Sometimes, when the guilt eats at Zayne until he feels nothing in his bones but his pathetic humanity; when night falls and he can watch your chest rise and fall in silence, can watch the ring on your finger shine dully against moonlight, he imagines telling you the truth. You deserve as much. You deserve a real wedding, and honesty, and so much more than him. Than a man who would rather bind you to him in a cowardly effort to quell his own fears than set you free. But then he remembers. Zayne always remembers. You, backing away from him, fingers itching towards the door (his fault, you would never remember your childhood ever again and it was his fault), you, posing that ultimatum.
Zayne has seen the end, but you have not. This job, your heart, it would kill you. He knew that. He just had to make you—--You have to understand, I can't let you do this. I'm your doctor. It was a mistake to say that. I love you, is what he should have said instead. You grabbed the doorknob. He replays the memory over and over and thinks he still had a chance to fix it, even at this point, he could still convince you to stay. You're yelling. So you know better, that's it? You would tear that away from me, my dream—my hard work, the hunter's association—you would take that away from me, huh, Mr. Doctor? It's still so vivid to him. The tears in your eyes, the betrayal burning within them from the very first moment you read the medical discharge forms on his desk. But nothing he does now can change what he did next. No matter how much he knows better now, in his memories, he always does it. He always makes the final mistake. Zayne tells you the truth. I wouldn't think twice, he says. not if it's for you.
Then you walk out the door.
And he understands, with each time becoming a little clearer, that beyond guilt and beyond shame, that regret is the strongest emotion of them all.
So he'll be your husband. He'll keep you safe. Call him your husband. Zayne's what's best for you.
