I only had a a few minutes to pop into Abe Erb today and check out the Waterloo Wellington Craft Collective tap takeover but I got this delicious Hibiscus Saison from Royal City - 4.8% ABV. It pours a rosey orange colour with a soapy white head. The aroma is fruity, floral and lightly funky with notes of oranges and hibiscus flowers. The taste is dry and lightly sweet, and just a little funky with notes of hibiscus, oranges, lemons, pepper and coriander. It has a medium-light body with a clean, dry finish. It's also lightly bitter, despite having no hops. Does that make it a gruit? Or gruit/saison?
