AAAAAAA the DID rep was amazing! I'm not qualified to say for sure how accurate it is nor how much more sensitive it is, since I do not have DID nor am I a psychologist or anything, but it certainly is more respectful than the original.
And yeah, I really like the original episode, but that doesn't mean I find the new one boring or anything. In fact, I like it a LOT!
I got TONS of Payjay scenes to squeal in joy at (OJ comforting Paper melted my heart in particular. Let's remember that OJ being there for Paper was the one thing that peacefully calmed Evil Paper/Looseleaf down.), lots of funny scenes (the additions to Apple, Marshmallow and Bow's dialogues are hilarious), and a PIANO scene (which isn't animated correctly, I believe.) ALL IN ONE EPISODE!!!
Speaking of, I'll try to refer to "Evil Paper" as Looseleaf (the name a lot of fans gave him) more often, since, as we know, he isn't evil. He just wants to protect Paper as a whole and seems to fully have accepted letting Paper handle things from now on. Also, he seemed to still react (somewhat positively?) to OJ's care and love at the beginning of the episode, which, again, I found adorable <3
Also, there are a few implications I'd like to talk about:
- First of all, Looseleaf shows a lot of physical strength in all of his appearances, which means Paper himself is just as strong (same body), but might not use it for different reasons:
1. He is afraid of hurting others (that we know is true, but not if it's the reason he normally appears to be weaker)
2. He might not know how to access that potential..? I don't know how to explain it better.
3. He lacks the confidence to use his full force (Paper is insecure at times, so this might be it).
- Second, it's implied that what we saw in the original episode is what MePhone4 imagined happened inside Paper's mind.
OJ is just such a big sweetheart in this episode... Not only does he defend Paper from others' abuse and triggers, but he himself avoids triggering him in any way after he confirms his suspicions about his trigger word (notice how after telling Paper about what he believes could be his main triggers, he avoids saying "Idiotic Island" entirely for the rest of the episode, even when warning others not to do it? And how when Paper feels guilty and a little stressed over how he voted for OJ, the first thing OJ does is to comfort and reassure him?), AND HE SOUNDS SO CONCERNED WHEN PAPER FAINTS OMGA T-T
Looseleaf, being the protector alter (a common alter role) he is, seems to avoid expressing vulnerability altogether, even in front of Paper while in their mindscape. As OJ puts it, he is triggered not only whenever "Idiotic Island" is mentioned (due to Paper's trauma), but also whenever Paper feels that he (or somebody he cares about) is in danger. This, from my perspective, makes it much easier to actually sympathize with and understand Looseleaf, as he isn't just "Paper's evil alter ego" that needs to be "defeated" so Paper can be "cured", but rather what he's always been: an alter born out of Paper's traumatic experiences and out of a need to protect his more vulnerable usual personality (Paper is a very sensitive, kind hearted guy).
Also, LOOSELEAF IS PLAYING THE LOWER NOTES ON THE PIANO WHILE PAPER IS PLAYING THE HIGHER NOTES!!!
Anyways, 10/10, no actual complaints (for now, at least), best episode of season 1 imo
it's 7:30am and it's so insanely hot here already and instead of being at all normal about it my brain has just been thinking about mumbo and grian in the back of that stupid camper, waking up with the sun pouring through the sheer curtains and they're already sweaty and it's way-too-hot, they definitely shouldn't make it hotter in there, but it's grian and he's still half on top of mumbo from the night before, hard and needy about it, grinding up against mumbo's thigh and making breathy little half-asleep whimpered sounds just below mumbo's ear
