the scene in tlou game where joel and ellie were talking about the model on the poster being to skinny makes me wonder how joel would react to finding out reader had an ed or was restricting food/on a diet
he’d def react in such a worrisome manner! he’d be super sweet about trying to get reader to eat a lil more here and there & compliment reader more on her body but itd be out of his depth but im sure he’d try his best <3 hes a texan corn-fed man so im 99.9% he’d just be confused on why anyone wouldnt eat when food is so good but he would be really sweet trying to help reader see their beauty 🦢🤍🫧

Joel needs to keep his hands busy, or else he gets increasingly anxious due a lack of a distraction.
I can totally see this. Probably this was 100% Joel when he didn't have Tristan, since he was extremely anxious and nowadays he ain't that badly, but he still is a person who needs to do and go and experience things so I can imagine he is anxious when he needs to sit still and doesn't have anything to do with his hands yes, this is headcanon for Joel. }
Joel shot upward in bed with a gasp, heart pounding wildly. It took a few minutes to realize that he was in Kalos. Not Sinnoh. Definitely not in his old house, in Canalave.
Not around his father. Several, several miles away from him, in fact. Whole 'nother region.
Distance doesn't keep away nightmares, Joel has noticed.
He pulled his knees to his chest and sat there, trembling pathetically. Oh, no, he was not afraid. Traumatized sounds like a better word. This nightmare brought up memories he would much rather forget. There was a brief moment where going to wake up his sister seemed promising, but decided not to. He seventeen. He can take care of himself, right?
Joel reached for his holocaster with a shaky hand and turned the device on, blinking his eyes a bit as the soft glow of the screen lit up his bedroom. He busied himself with scrolling through his pictures, most of which were taken during his visit to Sinnoh. Maybe this will help him forget the nightmare. While most were of different important or pretty buildings and scenery Sinnoh, there were several of his boyfriend and himself. And some pictures he took of Kevin when he wasn't looking.
Even as he looked at the pictures to rid his mind of the nightmare, he was still shaking very badly. It was almost difficult to turn his holocaster off, again. He jumped when a certain luxray jumped onto his bed.
“Hi, Sadie,” He muttered, letting his head drop back onto the pillow. “I guess I woke you up. Sorry.”
Sadie made a high-pitched sort of whine and scooted forward on her belly until she rested her head on Joel's chest, close to his shoulder and closed her eyes. He scratched her behind her ears for a few moments, staring at the ceiling.
Then he fell asleep again, fingers tangled in her mane.
Option 2: Call Upon the Scary Big Sister
Another nightmare, another sleepless night.
Even after almost a year living in Santalune, a peaceful night of sleep was hard to find. It really sucks, Joel thought as he quietly got out of bed and rubbed sleep from his eyes. He glanced at the clock. 3 A.M.. Well, that's just nice.
“Looks like I'm not going back to sleep,” His voice wavered. His door creaked a little when he opened and closed it, and he silently wished Jada didn't hear. She's a pretty light sleeper, nowadays. He flopped onto the couch and reached for the remote. He flipped to a random channel showing some old cartoon. Why would a child be awake at three A.M., he has no clue. He just sat and didn't really watch, just stared blankly at the screen.
He mostly focused on not letting his thoughts wander. It would always come back to the nightmare. So he sat quietly and stared at the TV.
Until he heard footsteps coming down the hallway, and he cursed under his breath for not turning down the TV's volume.
“Shit, dude, why are you watching Kim Possible at four A.M.?” Jada asked with a yawn, before noticing her brother's appearance. “...Oh. You okay?”
Joel didn't respond for a moment before shaking his head “no.”
“Mkay. Can I sit out here with you, then?” Jada asked, walking closer to the couch and her brother.
“You have work in a few hours."
“Doesn't matter,” She shrugged. “You're more important than dumb asshats who can't read the expiration date on coupons.”
Joel let himself laugh a little, and Jada smiled and sat down next to him. They just sat in silence, not the awkward kind, but the peaceful kind, and watched TV. Joel's smile did eventually turn back into a frown and when Jada noticed this, she nudged his shoulder.
“Hey. Don't do that.”
“...Do what?” Joel raised an eyebrow at this.
“That thing. With your face,” Jada pinched his cheeks. “You need to smile.”
Joel gently smacked her hands away from his face. “Please don't,” He said, though he was grinning like a dork.
“Why not? It's cute. Your cheeks are very pinchable.”
“Jada, noooooo.”
Option 3: Call Upon the Boyfriend
Nightmare number three was the worst. Joel woke up panicking and it was difficult to breathe. He was shaking so, so badly, it was hard to pick up his holocaster without dropping it on the floor. He somehow selected the right person from his contacts and dialed the number, waiting for him to answer.
“Damn it, Joel, I was asleep.” Came Kevin's slightly-annoyed voice from the other end.
“S-sorry. I – um. I can hang up. If you want t-to go back to sleep.” Joel stuttered a little as he spoke.
“...No, wait. You're stuttering. Why are you stuttering? What's wrong?”
“N-nightmare.”
“...Do you want me to come over?”
“Yeah...”
“I'll be over in a sec, just let me get dressed, okay?”
It didn't take very long for him to get to Joel's house. Joel unlocked the front door as soon as they hung up so he didn't need to get up and let his boyfriend in the house. He curled up on the couch and waited.
Not five minutes later did the front door swing open and close quietly. “Joel?” Kevin asked quietly, walking into the living room. “Are you okay?”
Joel nodded weakly, but then shook his head because what's the point of lying?
“Okay.” Kevin sat next to Joel, who immediately clung to him like a scared child. He didn't protest, only held the younger boy close and rubbed his back comfortingly. “...Do you want to watch a movie?”
“Sure..”
“Mkay.” Kevin got up and knelt in front of the TV, picking out the movie “Up” because he knew it was Joel's favorite because it was one of the first movies they've watched together. Also there's a giant bird named Kevin in it, but that's besides the point. The movie started and Kevin returned to cuddling his boyfriend. Joel held Kevin's hand, occasionally squeezing gently.
“I love you.” Kevin murmured when Joel rested his head on his shoulder and closed his eyes.
“Please don't leave.” Joel responded.
“Wouldn't dream of it.”
The next morning when Jada is to go to work, she would find the two curled up on the couch together. She'd just smile, get a blanket and gently drape it over them, and quietly close the front door behind her when she leaves the house.
