🏴Let's talk foot injuries. 🏴 Yeah, that sucker. Been thinking about it this week because I'm training for the #nycmarathon right now and I think my #plantarfasciitis is creeping back...and I was having a convo with someone yesterday on IG about it. I'm not gonna lie, #pf and #achilletendonitis aren't fun. But you can heal from it enough where you can #run again. I got it after #overrunning (I.e., #running too many miles too quickly without proper rest days). I was on vacation in Thailand and had to tip-toe out of the bed because the pain was too intense- and that's when you know... 🏴 Some tips: 1️⃣ go to a podiatrist (or 2) to diagnose it and go to #physicaltherapy if prescribed; 2️⃣ stretch your #calves everyday - #foamrolling was the most helpful to me; 3️⃣ think about hot-cold water #treatment -this was suggested to me by @drkachkond and was very helpful to me; 4️⃣ think about #acupuncture for #painmanagement (trust me-it helps); 5️⃣ do your foot exercises- and keep up with it (pretty sure my PF is acting up again because I got cocky and quit doing my #exercises); 6️⃣ consider #crosstraining - #bikeriding outdoors is great for building #footstrength while #swimming helps build #cardio lung strength; and 7️⃣ consider talking to a #nutritionist or naturalpathic doctor about nutritional supplements (I took extra #magnesium and #vitaminC for a while- probably need to go back to it). Most of all, don't be discouraged. My second (yes, my second) #podiatrist told me that this injury usually lasts for more than a year after someone begins treating it and that most people don't have the discipline to keep up with the exercises and stretching. So be patient! And listen to your body. If my PF continues to flair up, I won't do the #marathon. It's just not worth it. Be kind to your body. 🏃🏻 (at Central Park)
