I got a second copy of ACNL!
Actually, it’s my fiancé’s copy of the game. His town has Chevre, Puddles, Pinky, Carmen, Hamlet, Sylvia, Tiffany, and Colton. (And I think one or two others I can’t remember off the top of my head.) I’m a bit jealous he has Puddles and Carmen and Tiffany, because I wish they were in my town instead!
He hasn’t kept up with it, so the town remained neglected for almost a year now. I cleared out his weeds, talked to every villager, and got acquainted with his town and home. I even managed to get a clover in the process, something I had never gotten in my own game!
I’m not too fond of the town layout, especially since there’s only one bridge and it’s in an awkward place. And Re-tail is too far from the dock, Main Street, and the Mayor’s house. The Town Hall and Town Tree are also in odd locations. The town doesn’t flow well at all.
He’s fine with me holding onto the game indefinitely, since I’m way more into the franchise than he is. (He’s more a Harvest Moon sorta guy, largely because it’s not dependenton real time like AC is.) But now I’m left with a decision to make:
I can either keep his town going, maybe build myself a house too. I can make friends with the villagers there, take advantage of the fact he has a different native fruit than I do, and just enjoy what he’s gotten started and build on that. Relax and take it slow.
OR, I can erase his town and build a new one from scratch. This means I can choose the layout I want, experiment with things more than I’m willing to do in my own game, and have a blank slate to work from. Go crazy and do what I want.
I’m like 50/50 on what I want to do. I don’t want to erase what he started (even if he doesn’t seem to care, I don’t think he’s willing to completely abandon it), and I do like his neighbors. But I’m already finding the awkward layout hard to work with, and my whole reason for getting his game is to create an intricate Dream Town of my own design.
