Osha & Yord in The Acolyte 1x04 | Day
I really hope we'll get more information about what transpired at that coven (forgot the name of the planet lol).
It didn't sit right with me that they left the scene so quickly with Osha. Like, why wasn't there time to let her say goodbye? They could have kept her safe in the ship, on planet. Easily, at least from what we know right now.
the acolyte absolutely fumbling the emotional impact of the three jedi deaths so far makes me think the creative team was so immersed in their own premise and characters that they couldn't fathom viewers not giving a shit when someone with 0-2 lines kicks the bucket
i have so many thoughts on the acolyte and the current state of star wars Discourse/media as a whole but i think i'm saving them for an essay after the show finishes airing.
but mainly this; star wars is a lose/lose franchise at this point; either you swing for the fences but it still ends up feeling claustrophobic and inauthentic due to disney's brand interference (the acolyte) or you stick to the formula and create half-assed cash grabs that alienate everyone except the most diehard fans (ahsoka) and neither ultimately satisfy
as on-the-nose as some of the dialogue is, the portrayal of the jedi as a destabilizing force is sooooo compelling. individual jedi can behave more or less well or badly and we're free to evaluate them through that lens, but for the acolyte's purposes the order is more fundamentally the other half of multiple binaries: light rather than dark; orthodoxy rather than heresy; (republic) law and order. the jedi represent one side of that polarity and cast the brendok coven as the other. their influence doesn't create the fractures but exacerbates them; it prevents people like mae and osha from living too long in the in-between. magnets pushing and pulling, circling each other, making the middle a hostile place.
