day 39 of Draw Dinos Daily! the Acristavus! Sorry gang my heart wasn't really in it this time. So you get this silly guy in a leopard skin
🎵There were thirty holes cleared through her And a gash along one side And we knew that when it happened not a soul was left alive Then she rolled to show her markings We read them and we knew The fate of Jamie Dawson and his crew She was the Christian, and a grave for all her crew!🎵
Acristavus, a hadrosaur related to Maiasaura. Sometimes I poke around the family trees of dinosaurs looking for something that jumps out at me to illustrate. I liked this one's face shape :)
If I goofed anything up anatomically, let me know!

Name: Acristavus gagslarsoni
Name Meaning: Non-crested grandfather
First Described: 2011
Described By: Gates et al.
Classification: Dinosauria, Ornithischia, Genasauria, Neornithischia, Cerapoda, Ornithopoda, Iguanodontia, Dryomorpha, Ankylopollexia, Styracosterna, Hadrosauriformes, Hadrosauroidea, Hadrosauridae, Saurolophinae, Brachylophosaurini
Acristavus is a Brachylophosaurin found in the Wahweap Formation in Utah, dating back to about 79 million years ago, in the Campanian age of the Late Cretaceous. It is known from multiple skeletons, including an almost complete skull, as well as other skeletal elements. It didn’t have a crest, and its discovery was important in supporting the idea that the earliest Hadrosaurids did not have crests, and that these were developed independently in Lambeosaurines (and soft tissue kinds of ornamentation as well as small, non-sound producing crests were developed in Saurolophines). It was closely related to such animals as Maiasaura and Brachylophosaurus, and was a fairly early derived Saurolophine. It had a rather squarish skull, giving it a fairly distinct appearance, and it lived in a very wet floodplain area with many lakes and rivers, and seasonal rainfall. It lived alongside many other dinosaurs such as Adelolophus, Diabloceratops, and Lythronax, as well as other dinosaurs that are unnamed or based off of ichnofossils, indicating the presence of ankylosaurs, pachycephlosaurs, and other ornithischians and theropods.
