my phone has been brought back to life!!!!!
I've realized how addicted I am to technology just from being without my phone for a day...... *cries*
Our parents: do you remember lawn darts, mr. Softee, roller skate keys and slot cars? Those were the days. Our generation in our 50s: hey do u remember that one sponge bob meme.

Z is for Zinged!
Yep, I’ve been zinged by “Technology Addiction: Concern, Controversy, and Finding Balance.” I admit to being addicted by technology. I love tech challenges and will spend hours searching for ways to make STUFF work just right. I’m also hooked on computer games with matching jewels. So what about kids? How is their increasing use of technology affecting them? Published by Common Sense…

Digital Dementia
“Individuals who rely heavily on technology may suffer deterioration in cerebral performance such as short term memory dysfunction. Damage to the right side of the brain is associated with deficits in ability to concentrate, short attention, memory span, and emotional disturbances, such as depression." “High frustration and stunted social skills.” “It makes sense at the extreme that it would affect memory.” “We do know it can affect sleep quality.” “Characterized by confusion, disorientation, and impaired memory—literally a ‘loss of mind.
Ugh. It’s sad when I am awake at 3:30 in the morning because I feel so disconnected from everything. I should have bought the $50 wireless charging pad, but it’s a good thing I didn’t because I have an $80 doctor bill I need to pay. But shit - that iphone 3 is so fucking slow & has no apps and makes me want to shoot babies. If I call for the warranty and it’s going to take more than like 2 days I am going to have to go buy the stupid wireless pad and have them reactive my sim card because fuck.
I’m just so fucking annoyed about the entire situation because it’s bullshit. I literally drove 20 minutes to the AT&T store and then like 30ish minutes to my parents and then back to the AT&T store and like it was all just so fucking stupid. I dont know what happened or why the charging port in my fucking phone went but I am so annoyed that they cannot just change out my phone at the fucking AT&T store.
Edit: I realize I probably would have saved money & frustration by buying the stupid charging pad in the first place and I am very upset with myself. Fuck.
I Ordered An Artisanal Mousepad And All I Got Was This Lousy Introspective Blog Post
I guess I don’t need to, but I’ve always used one before, and if you’ve tried to use Apple’s magic mouse with and without one, you’d notice a difference. I promise!
Ok, so here I am, an older millennial, staunchly gripping onto a digital accessory relic, like using cooking spray on a non-stick pan –– just for good measure, you know?
Let’s not forget that there was a time when a mouse pad was essential to old mice with paperweight balls. They just wouldn’t work on a regular surface because they were sensitive mice. And thus, a new desk accessory was born.
OK, ok, so I needed a new mouse pad. Every time I clean my desk – when the food smears become just a little too much – I try to clean the very cute mouse pad I bought at Anthropologie (I was just as surprised as you to find a mousepad there), it just won’t get clean.
And, I’m 30 and I work from home. I’m trying to be good about replacing small things that are easy to replace. At least, I thought a mouse was easy to replace.
I didn’t want a boring mousepad from Staples, so I went on Etsy to get something a little different, something that expressed myself a little more than this:
There’s a lot of mousepads on Etsy. Ok, I mean, there’s a lot of a lot of stuff on Etsy, but I was nevertheless surprised at the selection. I didn’t wrack my brains too hard over it, settling on this:
It’s cute right? I quickly ordered it after having to update my address from my last apartment, thus getting nostalgic for my old place, living alone, and just that general little sweet spot of my twenties. Then, I moved on with my day, because work is nuts.
I received my confirmation email with a caveat:
Slightly Smitten Kitten is a one person shop and I am blessed to be able to support my family with my business. My current production time is 2-3 weeks prior to shipping. If you would like your order sooner than this please send me a convo and I will do my best to accommodate your request.
Obviously, this is very cool for Slightly Smitten Kitten, and I am extremely happy to support a local (even if not mine) business over a big corporation and I’m sure my handmade mousepad will be gorgeous and well made and awesome.
However, 2-3 weeks?! I considered canceling and ordering something a little easier because that seemed insane, and I had no idea that would be the case.
And then I realized I was the insane one. It’s just 2-3 weeks, and good things take time. We live in world of instant gratification. Next day delivery. Amazon Prime. Download now. E-cards. Virtual gift cards. Click and you shall receive.
We forget the dial-up days where it took at least five minutes to log in to America Online (only to be kicked off my a phone call or a fax), keyboards had to be plugged in, retina screens weren’t even an idea and, yes, mice had balls.
So, I decided to be patient and wait for my pretty mouse pad to use with the mouse that probably doesn’t need one anyway. Maybe it’s because I’m starting to be old enough to truly cling to a fading past. Maybe it’s because I don’t really like change. Maybe it’s because I’m part of a generation that values self-expression.
Either way, I’ll be receiving my handmade, artisanal, local mouse pad sometime in the new year.
I really enjoyed disconnecting this weekend. (at Moonstone Beach)
