okay book lover oomfs gather round

I’m not going to spoil anything but I just finished Troy by Adéle Geras and by no means was this a good plot or even remotely well written- why have the gods reveal MAJOR plot points to the characters and then have them forget the ‘prophecy’ twelve seconds later and then have it not matter at ALL in the book???? bro the author just spoils the book for the reader like thirty times IN THE BOOK. come on buddy

it was definitely not worth 358 pages, HOWEVER, HOLY FUCKING SHIT, THE WAY SHE WRITES GRIEF IS INSANE.

literally not worth the read tho, I rated it theee stars on goodreads. if you do end up reading it, PLEASE tell me because I want to talk about Greek myth and lore and specifically the astyanax blurb good god

i'm actually pleasantly surprised by how good these books are that i have to read for school. anyone read troy by adele geras or mississippi trial 1955 by chris crowe? i'm not done with the latter yet but i don't mind talking about either one with someone ?

Happy Ever After by Adele Geras

I really liked this set of stories. Very enjoyable! I'm a sucker for fairytale-based settings.

These three stories are based on Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White. I wouldn't necessarily say it's a modern retelling as it's set in the early sixties, however they were much more relatable as opposed to the fantastical versions we've all come to know and love. They're more adult versions but not at all in a disrespectful disgusting way. I appreciated the change.

The only flaw was how it was set up. There were no chapters, only paragraphs so it was very difficult to put down and find my place again.

I give this book 8 out of 10. One of the best ones I've read in a while!

Happy Ever After by Adele Geras

This book is a simi-modern take on the fairy tales of Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White. 

I usually have a strong love for retellings  or a love hate relationship. However, this book was different for me. In the first story (out of three separate ones that all intertwine) was dull. It was hard to get into, and all the characters seemed monotone. While I found that second story the best (and the most tragic) out of the three, adding new elements. I found it mildly interesting. The third was alright.

I also had a hard time pinning down the time period. It was placed in the 60's however, I felt like it was more in the 1800s at certain times. Then I'd be reminded, by some music reference, or fashion discussion they had, or even the fact they had electricity  I'm not sure if the author meant for this to happen, or if it was an accident.

It was an alright novel. I simply think it clashed with my taste. It is very well written though. If you have more of a preference of old school British love stories, you might enjoy this book.
