Oh my god! This does help, doesn't it?
I just found dyslexia friendly font on the writing site that I use to write everything, and I kid you not, I could actually cry because although I don’t have dyslexia, the dyslexia friendly fonts really help my adhd! It usually takes me like 30 goes to read a paragraph (not an exaggeration) before it sinks into my brain, but with this font it goes into my head right away 😭😭😭 I’ve struggles for years and this is what I needed!
Open Sans is my hero
I've always struggled with reading. Skipping words, lines, letters. Reading the wrong word. Trouble focusing and having to go back and reread again. Lately, my eyes have also been strained, too.
This is bad because I NEED to read fic. Lots and lots of fic. But it's getting harder to manage. Podfic helps. (Podficcers, I LOVE you. Really, I do).
I looked up dyslexia and ADHD fonts in a moment of desperation. I am not dyslexic (or, I don't think I am), but the opendyslexic font made reading so much easier for me! I couldn't get it to work with AO3 though (boo!).
I eventually found Open Sans works on AO3 and google docs. And I'm so excited you all. I'm not skipping as much, it's easier to focus, and it really just works for me!
I made myself a skin with Open Sans, larger font, and colors that make me happy. And there is no point to this post except to say, if you're anything like me, maybe Open Sans will help you to. I have no clue how to share my own skins but I quickly made mine using the skin wizard on AO3.
Now excuse me, I need to go read a lot of fic.
My skin settings:
So I have a question for the ADHD readers - one book at a time, or swapping between multiple books - which do you prefer and why?
Do you have rules about which genres or mediums you can read concurrently or one after another (e.g. can't read fantasy twice in a row, prefer to read one fiction and one non-fiction at the same time, or one paperback and one audio book)?
I tend to get lost and have to start again if I put a book down too long... but sometimes I wonder if I wouldn't put a book down so long if I were reading more than one to help me past the slow bits....
The Clear Focus Bible Review
My latest Bible Review is coming to you from Zondervan and it might just be one of the best Bible reading experiences for you (or someone you know) if you have ADHD, Dyslexia or just have reading overwhelm when you look at a page crowded with words in nine point font. I was excited when contacted to check out these Bibles, as I know a number of people (including myself) who are the target reader…
I just saw a long post about an author on here that accidentally became a god for ADHD readers, but now I can't find it! Someone help!
Made a doctor late for surgery it was so good
"People with ADHD are constantly coming up with new ideas and new ways of doing things. They have tremendous levels of creativity, and artistic ability. They are great, world-class problem solvers."
Dr. William Dodson
I've been assigned some reading, and this quote made me feel good.
Whether you are trying to equip your home or a classroom, there are many useful tools available on the market for autism, sensory processing disorders or ADHD reading, hearing, listening and comprehension.
Aside from noise-cancelling headphones, there are many other types of devices, software, techniques and other aids that can assist with sensory, autism, ADHD reading and listening comprehension.
