My take on the cryptid known as the Adjule.

The Adjule is a very rare and critically endangered species of African Wild Dog. Adjule are known for their unique color pattern, as it is completely different from other subspecies. They are good swimmers and are effective at hiding. Living in the North African region near the Sahara Dessert, these are the most northerly living of the species. Their lifestyle and hunting technique are pretty much the same as all other subspecies save for the fact that they will commonly attack prey in the water. There are less than 100 individuals left remaining in the wild.

The Adjule has been a widely known cryptid for quite some time now between the Cryptid Community. So I guess I’ll be talking about it. If you would like to add anything, reblog and tell me!

For starters, the Adjule goes by many names. It’s more simple name, Bush Dog is a more popular one. However, in Northern Africa it is either regarded as a Kelb-el-Kela for the males, and Tarhsît for females. As I stated, this cryptid originates in Northern Africa, close to the Sahara Desert.

Skeptics have regarded this cryptid as an undiscovered variety of the African Wild Dog, which very well may be true, as a species known as the New Guinea Wild dog was said to be extinct for 50 years, but recently seen alive and well in 2016! So saying that it could possibly just be a mangy wild dog, is not out of range.

For people who are fans of the series “Resident Evil” may recognize this cryptid, however, it resides far out of the popular videogame “Resident Evil 5″, as a person by the name of Théodore Monode wrote about them way back in 1928. Accompanying this, the nomadic Tuareg people have also reported sightings of this cryptid.

Now however much data we may have on this cryptid, there is very little physical description of it. People who have believed to have seen it say it stands at about 2 and a half feet tall, and roughly 30 pounds. It’s diet is unknown, but seeing how it resembles the African Wild Dog, it is possibly carnivorous or omnivorous. The select few that have seen this have described it as “very different from a regular dog”. Whatever this may mean, is hard to tell, as the witnesses never gave much of a description other than its assumed height and weight, and its coloration, which ranges from a smoky, dark grey to a dirt brown, similar to African Wild Dogs.

Other theories surrounding this cryptid say it is possibly a phantom taking the form of a dog or wolf, however proving or debunking this theory would be near impossible, so its left in the air.

Africa’s Multitude

There are many different groups of peopl ein the African continent whether it would be a country or a tribe or even just a small nomadic group. The one thing I've found is that with so many different types of people there are also just as many monsters that they have. Some monsters are shared, others are specific to that group of people, and some are continental.

Grootslang: This creature is a giant snake figure that grows up to about 60 ft long. It dwells within caves and it is said that though they guard their dwellings well the caves are filled with diamonds that no one is completely knowledgeable about. Grootslang are a mix of snake and elephant and was said to have been split up into either species due to gods seeing them as being too powerful of a beast. Impundulu: The people of Pondo, Zulu, and Xhosa have the Impundulu within their folklore. This is a South African bird that is the size of a human and brings about lightning and storms. It's name is quite literally Lightning Bird. These birds and their eggs have medicinal properties however they are known to willingly attack and drink human blood as they are also seen with witches or witch doctors. There have been times this bird has disguised itself as a human to walk amongst people. Ninki Nanka: This monster dwells in Gambia River and is a dragonic creature with the body of a crocodile, head of a horse with accompanied horns, and the neck like that of a giraffe. Its grows to be 30 to 50 ft long. Many people have claimed to have found bits and pieces of their scales but all of them coming up empty handed on that matter. Tikoloshe: From Zulu lore, shaman summon these little creatures when they feel they have been wronged or they wish to pester their enemies. Tikoloshe are small, hairy humanoid creatures that can become invisible by swallowing a single pebble. They can cause trouble ranging from just small, irritating annoyances to serious illness that may or may not lead to death. Adjule: This is a canine called a Bush Dog. Males and females have two different names and they live in the Sahara Desert in Northern Africa. At two and a half feet tall, they travel in groups of three to thirteen and are not known to attack humans just cause a fright through existence. Nandi Bear: This creature has been spotted all over the continent and has many different names depending on what group of people sight it. It's described as a mix of a bear and a hyena and stands at four to six feet tall with a reddish brown or almost black brown fur color. It is nocturnal and is known for killing humans on the night of the new moon or when the moon is not visible. It has been shot at by westerners or burned in houses as they were trapped.

the ADJULE  is a canine cryptid that is said to wander the sahara desert. despite the firm belief that this hound is indeed a cryptid, or new species of wild dog - many credit the sightings to the african wild dog.
